Just seen the replay of round 1: one of the poorest moments in SCG Open recent history. Why the hell they chose to put a very good player vs a casual player with little more than a sealed deck on camera is beyond the realm of my imagination. I understand that the first rounds are more difficult to cover because many good players have byes, but... come on! You can't know how good players are before showing them, of course, but just look at the decklists and see if the opponents of the few good players have fair decks to combat against Elsik & co at least! What a poor choice... and a poor commentary, too, putting a stress on every single mistake of the poor player. Not a good way to open the tournament, in my opinion.
To be fair, I'm not sure they have the time to look at decklists when deciding feature matches, particularly in the first round. They can obviously look at them once they are decided because there's extra time in between.
That said, they do have two feature matches set up so they can use one as a backup, so they could have looked at the decklists and used the other feature match as the main one to skip over this. Then again, for all we know they looked at the decklists and it was even worse in the other possible feature match.
Pro Team coming in and sweeping up DFW meta...
Good for the pros sad for my area, I went 0-2 -> drop, playing Bant Eldrazi, faced Lantern Control round 1... knew my day was going to suck, then faced the mirror... and got awful draws while he ripped the perfect hand against the mirror. Started 0-4 on games and decided not to punish myself any more. The twitch chat was saying the Zur deck started strong, but he lost like all his games after the deck tech. I will say the tables they used blew; they really crammed us in, each table was a line of overlapping playmats and if you moved wrong you elbowed the player next to you.

Very nice match between Hoogland and Jones though. Kiki-Chord with Nahiri, the Harbinger is interesting, but I don't know how I would react if I drew Aunt Emmy three times in a row after discarding her!
I don't think SCG Opens have Byes as far as I know.
Esper Zur is a fun deck! I played it a couple of times over a year ago, but I couldn't justify playing a deck that felt like an inferior BGx deck. I should clarify what I mean by that. When I tested against BGx, it had a poor matchup. When I tested against decks that decks that I previously tested BGx against, Esper Zur was usually worse, even if only slightly. I'm not tring to be a downer though, as Esper Zur is a very fun deck. I even lost to it once with Bloom Titan when it was legal; it being my only loss at ThNM at a particular store in 4 three round tournaments.

Those are not the top 16 decks after Day 1. They're the decks that I know are being played after doing some detective work (watching coverage and trawling Twitter).
It couldn't be othwerwise since they ban every deck that is dominant...
Chill with the ban talk. To some extent, this thread can stray into other topics. But this kind of contextless, one-liner banlist complaining doesn't have a place here.
It's live now.
Zac Elsik on Ad Nauseam just beat Bruce Ulrich on UB Mill 2-0.

I Stream MTGO on Twitch: broodwarjc
I also post recordings of those streams on Youtube: broodwarjcavidgamer
Standard Deck:
BUPirates
Modern Deck:
B8-Rack
Might have misread the stream at one point, but I know Jeskai Nahiri is one of the two decks, and I think Infect is the other.
OLD SCHOOL 93/94 «The Pain Train» Black Sligh, Esper «Machine Gun» Artifacts, Jund «Psycho» Ponza-Disko.
I don't know why he chose to not run Shizo, Death's Storehouse over the river of tears? Also this wasn't the list he ran.
Decks I'm playing in Modern right now:
URB Grixis Reveler (http://www.mtgvault.com/supast4r7/decks/modern-grixis-reveler/)
UB Faeries (http://www.mtgvault.com/supast4r7/decks/ub-fae-2/)
UW Azorious Control (http://www.mtgvault.com/supast4r7/decks/modern-ojutai-control-2/)
