Hi!
I'm playing Jund currently, and it's fine. But I feel that I need something else. I would like get a deck that will counter Jund's troublesome match-ups. Just if local meta shifts - I can get my "other" deck and have good chances of winning. Budget is not a problem.
Thanks for the advice, LeviatanCL - looks like an interesting option, gave the primer a quick read, as well as some of the latest comments there. I'm not completely sold, though - looks like a lot of wishful thinking (reminds me of my durdle decks).
And yes, you got it right, regarding what I probably want. It's a bit deeper than that (I used to enjoy playing fair games that lead to weird, complex board states), but you got the core idea. Really appreciate the feedback, will keep looking into it - thanks.
Going kind of out on a limb here, it doesn't sound anything like the decks you've played before, but while reading your post I kept thinking about 8Rack. It's a mono-black control deck with a ton of discard spells that wins with The Rack and Shrieking Affliction.
It does run 4 Ensnaring Bridge and 4 Liliana of the Veil, so it's not a budget deck if that's a problem.
I've been out of the format for a while, but I have a tournament coming up I'd like to join. The meta is likely somewhat typical as the store has a few high-level players. I know for a fact that there are a few Bogles fans though. I can borrow basically anything but I'm not sure what I should play.
I don't like glass cannon decks, but apart from that I guess I'd play anything. What do you recommend?
this almost scream jund:
-you can beat everybody
-dont requiere that much skill (unlike abzan company for example)
-if you know the meta you can adapt easily (fulminator mage maindeck for tron, boil SB against Ux control, back to nature against boggles)
Hey guys. I'm torn on what to play in modern nowadays.
I'm currently playing blue moon. A fairly stock build, but no ancestral visions. However, I feel like the closing speed with the deck just isn't there. And the free wins with a turn 3 blood moon are becoming less and less frequent.
The two decks I am considering are transitioning into UWR nahiri, which seams like a natural step forward from blue moon (having two of the same colors), or Abzan Coco (as a past twin player, I like the idea of having a combo as well as a solid beat down plan).
I'm also considering a look at Jund, but due to the high price tag I tend to shy away from it.
Is there any clear deck of these three that is a cut above the rest? I've been testing with all three and having success- I just bobble between them all and fail to pull the trigger on getting the deck.
Your insight into the pros and cons between the decks would be much appreciated. Which do you think is best suited for an open field of a GP sized event? Who is the top dog?
Uwr nahiri is a good option, but I just wanted to let you know that there is a blue moon deck with through the breach/emrakul as well. If you google some lists with Chris (I don't want to say his last name here), you can probably find it.

I'm playing modern for 2 months and running a Ascendancy combo list because I already had 60% of the cards, but now the store I usually play had a hard metagame. (1/2 infects, 2/3 abzan coco, 1/2 kik chord are the wrost matchs)
Witch deck should I play?
sorry about the bad english.

Sadly, my B card pool is somewhat limited, but I'll look into it nonetheless. Appreciate the thoughtful advice!
I'm a combo player in modern and actually i'm playing Ad Nauseam in competitive events with good results.
But i want to ask you about which one of this three decks do you think it's better in the actual metagame and why do you think so:
I'm looking for a deck that can plays most of the following cards so that they don't continue rotting in my card albums:
4 Jace, Vyrn's prodigy
4 Goblin dark-dwellers
4 Tasigur
3 Kalitas
4 Inquisition of Kozilek
2 Thoughtseize
4 Kolaghan's command
4 Liliana of the veil (getting in the future after selling my Tarmogoyf)
4 Ancestral vision
4 Cryptic command
4 Polluted delta
4 Celestial colonnade
3 Blackcleave Cliffs
2 Kiki-jiki
4 Restoration angel
4 Reflector mage
4 Thunderbreak regent
4 Meddling mage
4 Ensnaring bridge
4 Voice of resurgence
Cards I do not have and will not be purchasing:
Snapcaster mage
Thing in the ice
Scalding tarn
Boom // bust
Blood moon
Nahiri
Or some other ridiculously bank breaking expensive cards
I hope someone can direct me either to the appropriate thread or help me with a skeleton list or show me what I should go for.
Hi everyone! I'm fairly new around here but not new to Magic at all. Mostly I've just played fairly casually up until recently, however a friend introduced me to Modern the other night at FNM and I've fallen in love with the format.
Cards I Own: Probably not much for Modern. I play a casual mono blue control deck with my friends around the kitchen table, but other than that I really don't have too much built up. I do own a playset of Path to Exile, a playset of Lightning Bolts, and some stuff that from a cursory glance over the Burn primer fits in the burn deck.
Colors I Like to Play: Normally I'd say blue and leave it at that, but honestly I'm wanting to expand away from JUST playing blue and control. I'm looking mainly for decks that focus more heavily on other colors of the pie. Naya is a good color combo that I'm interested in, but I'm open to other combos as well.
Style I Like to Play: Again, I'm looking to branch away from blue and control here. I've found a more aggressive approach to be interesting in my testing on XMage, as well as Combo and Midrange.
Level I Want to Play At: Mostly I'll be playing at a fairly competitive FNM, as well as other competitive events held throughout the week locally. I will be going to bigger events held in Indianapolis as well.
I have done a bit of research on decks so far. I've been trying some Burn on XMage and have found it fairly enjoyable so far. I've also looked at Ad Nauseam, which is fun but also seems to be a bit repetitive. The other deck I've looked at so far has been Affinity, however it seems INCREDIBLY easy to hate out. I'd appreciate your opinions on any of these decks! Also, if you happen to have a favorite deck that fits into what I've been talking about so far, I'd love to hear about it! Kiki-Chord looks interesting, however I haven't had time to test it yet so if you have input on that deck as well I'd love to hear it.

Burn could be a nice starting point for you. You could also go with Kiki Chord as you mentioned it or with Naya Zoo-aggro deck as well and built it more towards aggro direction or go with bigger creatures and make more like a midrange version.
Yeah, Burn is kinda where I'm leaning. Harder to hate out than Affinity, a bit cheaper than Kiki-Chord. I'd like to play Zoo but Goyfs are a bit out of my price range at the moment, as much as I want them. Of course, if I could afford Goyfs I'd probably just play Jund.
1 liliana of the veil, 3 cryptic commands, 3 path to exile, 1 Ancestral Visions, 1 JVP
Colors you like to play:
Typically blue, black's alright too
Style you like to play (control, combo, aggro, midrange, tempo, ramp, rogue)
Control for sure, midrange and tempo is cool too
Level you want to play at, or aim to build up to

im very new to modern but I've been playing EDH and standard for a while, I have no idea what my meta will be like. Thanks!
This sounds like you want to build into grixis or Jesaki Nahiri. You have: av, JVP for gixis and you have cryptics/path for jeskai. My suggestion regardless is to get 4 snap.

If you want to play Zoo, play aggro Zoo. Replace Goyf with Burning-Tree Emissary and you run Swiftspear. It's the style of Zoo deck that kills on turn 3. Also a lot cheaper without goyfs

Ooh, interesting. I'm definitely going to look into that then! I had the chance to borrow a friend's Zoo deck (Goyfs included) for a smallish Modern event earlier today and it was pretty dang fun. I'm assuming it is a mix of Burn and Zoo since Swiftspear is in there?
