Ive decided to go with ad nauseum because its a teeny bit more resilient to hate, cant fizzle, and takes less time to actually combo. I also have the lotus blooms already. Thanks everyone
Hey all. Haven't played modern in a year or two, with college taking up most of my time. I have a bit more time and income now, and am looking to pick it back up. You may want a few more Blackcleave Cliffs, I'm not 100% sure on the Mardu manabase, but you have most of the fetch/shocks, and other things. Thoughtseize, and Bedlam Reveler being the main things I dont see.
I've played with the mardu land base in an attempt to find the best bang for the buck and found that if the deck is strongly black and red, with only a hint of white, it is probably worth dropping the white all together if it isn't possible to afford the cliffs. The next best options to replace cliffs are the reveal duals from SoI block and the check lands. Battle lands from BFZ work best in mid-range strategies combined with fetchlands, as they work the same 90% of the time as the shock lands without actually burning yourself (you can usually just fetch a basic and be good on the early turns).
The other option that works somewhat well in the deck are the pain lands. Typically, they translate to starting the game with around 17 life vs the shocks being starting the game with 18 life, so it's not that great of a difference and can still allow your strategies to work. Mana Confluence, while a good card, requires a deck built for it to not be too much of a burden, as that translates to usually starting the game with 15 life.

1. (Ravnica Allegiance): You can't keep a good esper control deck down... Or Wilderness Reclamation... or Gates...
2. (War of the Spark): Guys, I know what we need! We need a cycle of really idiotic flavor text victory cards! Jace's Triumph...
3. (War of the Spark): Lets make the format with control have even more control!
I never thought, that I would a deck "request" here, but here we are
Reason is, while I have a ton of cards (only Mox and Liliana is missing from the expensive cards), I simply do not find a deck at all, which I truly enjoy since the banning of DTT and Seething Song (both Ritual Gifts).
What I played so far (in this metagame) and kinda liked: Griselbanned (welp, I still like the deck, but want to play something else from time to time), Counter-Cat (4c Tempo deck ft. Delver and Nacatl, can shift between Aggro and Control depending on the match-up) and Squeeflagate (Zombie Infestation, Life from the Loam, Squees, Conflagarate, Lingering Souls and co, just awesome to play but sucks in a metagame full of combo decks and graveyard hate, which this deck just sucks balls against).
What I like: Decks which can play on more than one axis (as you can see from the decks I recently played and liked), this means that decks can shift gameplay or can tutor stuff up. I also like when it is not just do X and win, but the deck has to be played properly and has multiple lines of play.
I was somewhat thinking about Bant Kiki here, since the normal GWx Counters Company decks are so boring to play for me, but dunno if this deck is any good. Do you guys know any other deck which would fulfil this "criteria"?
Oh btw. if it helps, absolutely love Imperial Bomberman in Legacy, regarding playstyle
Greetings,
Kathal
PS: And it would be kinda nice, if the deck is somewhat competitive, doesn't need to be Tier 1 but still good at what it does.

either funpolice (Delver, Deathcloud, UW Control) or the fun decks (especially those ft. Griselbrand)
I just had recent success with Jund Death's Shadow, and wrote an article about it and compared it consistently to Grixis. It may not sway you to play Jund Shadow like I did, but hopefully gives you perspective towards the current meta of Modern as a whole.

Fun fact: I saw that list from yours and played it yesterday at our weekly modern
Liked the list, though would have liked the Hazaret instead the second Flayer with a third Travers over the third Looting. Cause when playing against Grixis Control, Meerfolk, BW Death and Taxes and GDS Hazaret would have been better.

Right now I'm playing RG Titanshift with decent results, but I would like to add another deck to my modern arsenal.
What are some decks that don't have much of the same weaknesses as Titanshift? Budget isn't a huge concern. Preferably something with less shuffling than Titanshift, as that's the only part I really dislike about the deck.
Im looking for another modern deck...again. So I've currently got Bant Knightfall with the Druid Combo and I love it. Its probably my favorite deck that ive ever played. I also recently made mardu pyromancer thinking that i would love the epitome of the fair decks. Unfortunately, the deck is too threat light for me and its very poorly positioned right now. I'm not super concerned about budget but i cant shell out for goyfs or snappys or opals. I think I want to play some sort of a non goldfishing combo deck. Storm/ad nauseam/Jeskai Ascendancy just goldfish and thats no fun for an opponent. I want to be competitive but maybe not a super duper common deck. Also the goryos as foretold deck looked sweet but grishoalbrand seems just better. Bring to light seems boring tbh. Ive got marsh flats, flooded strands, windsweapt heath, and bloodstained mires. But it doesnt have to be in those colors necesarily. Combo's not mandatory either but i want to feel like im doing something busted
sorry for the long post!
TL:DR
Combo deck thats not super boring for the opponent because we can both play magic. My dream scenario is we both play the game but i wind up with a victory because i get some sort of an "i win" scenario

Although not top performing at the moment, Scapeshift is dramatically cheaper now than it ever was before, and you can play many different variants. Naya, RUG, and RG with or without Bloodbraid Elf.
What's neat about Scapeshift is that it has the absurd matchup against fair decks, but somehow stuggles against more linear combo decks. So the splashes and sideboard are usually over dedicated to that notion.

I don’t find that deck appealing because it seems incredibly repetitive and boring. I like the idea of bridge vine. It seems really fun. Although I worry that it needs interaction or something like that. Is it viable even without interaction? Or is something like hollow one with bolts and brutalities better?
While I do concede that the RG Titan scapeshift lists can feel repetitive at times, the control versions with/without BTL are definitely rather interactive, probably as interactive as you can get while still playing an insta-win combo.
I personally run RG Titanshift, but I play 4 copies of Bloodbraid Elf. Really adds some extra spice to the deck and cascading into your sideboard hate feels awesome.
That being said, Hollow One feels less like a combo deck and more like a regular creature-based aggro deck. Turn 1 Hollow Ones still feel pretty broken, though.
For titanshift or btl scapeshift, can you win game 1 vs storm or other fast Aggro decks like humans or hollow one or burn? Are there any just dead matchups?
Those matchups aren't favored game 1, but I wouldn't say they are completely dead. If you are playing the traditional control variants, you have maindeck interaction, and if you play the Titan version then you have a clock of your own.
For titanshift or btl scapeshift, can you win game 1 vs storm or other fast Aggro decks like humans or hollow one or burn? Are there any just dead matchups?
It's probably best asked in the Titanshift forum, but here goes...
Against Storm, you're pretty dead unless their deck fails them. They are a turn 3/4 goldfish deck. We are 4/5 at best. But we have Lightning Bolts to hopefully line up with their Baral/Electromancers. If you play any Relic of Progenitus main, then you have that as well, although that is extremely rare nowadays. You basically have to hope that you have X Bolts and they have X dudes. You also hope to have a quick clock WITH that as well. But in my experience, you're probably 20/80 before board.
Against Humans, you are favored. I am starting to feel like it's more than slightly over 50%. Maybe I've just drawn well. You have Bolt, Anger or Sweltering Suns, a pretty quick clock, and Valakut triggers. Hopefully you have some chumpers for Champion in the form of Sakura-Tribe Elder or whatever else (Rec Sage, Solemn Simulacrum, Bloodbraid Elf). Their super quick hands of early Champion(s), followed by Mantis Riders and maybe a Kitesail Freebooter of Meddling Mage, and finished by Thalia's Lieutenants are going to be tough to beat, but then hardly any deck in the format can beat that. I truly feel that this matchup is nearly 60/40 preboard and possibly gets better after board since Humans has cut a few of the SB cards that excelled against us.
For Hollow One, you just need to line up chumpers, not getting Burning Inquiried out of the game, and not face too many early 4/4s or 5/5s, along with an abundance of late game pressure. Then we can get there. Mind you I've only played this matchup a few times, despite the many Hollow One players locally, but I feel it's close to 40/60. It could be worse than that, but I noticed our SB just happens to be stacked with cards against them. My last match vs. them, I sided in 11 cards (3 Obstinate Baloth, 1 Rec Sage, 2 Ancient Grudge, 2 Anger of the Gods, 1 Roast, 2 Tireless Trackers, and something else that I can't remember).
Against Burn, it's going to be tough to win game 1. I feel on the draw, you're around 40/60 and on the play, 55/45. You basically need the perfect ramp into a lethal Scapeshift or some sort of stumble by them. It gets slightly better after board. My opinion is going to be somewhat skewed here because I tend to draw Valakuts in multiples and rarely any basics against this deck, while being mostly on the draw. I've had some odd variance vs. this deck, but when I haven't, it seemed like nearly 50/50. I know other players who have won over 50% of their matches here, although I feel some of it is due to variance. Just pray they stumble, lol... (whether that means missing land drop 2 or 3 or drawing too many lands or creatures into Anger of the Gods)
"Dead matchups" would probably be KCI or any matchup where you don't draw the necessary interaction (like not drawing Bolt vs. Hardened Scales in time and the board gets out of control).
Legacy - Sneak Show, BR Reanimator, Miracles, UW Stoneblade
Premodern - Trix, RecSur, Enchantress, Reanimator, Elves https://www.facebook.com/groups/PremodernUSA/ Modern - Neobrand, Hogaak Vine, Elves

I was just wondering if anyone had any deck recommendations for a meta that is 50 percent midrange and 50 percent control, budget isnt really a problem

Mono G Tron would be my first bet. Mardu Pyromancer sounds also quite good in that specific metagame, but I would play Tron above it.
So i'm missing Goyfs, Bobs, Cliffs, Tiage, Cryptics, Colonnade, Tar Pit, etc.
Is there anything i could brew up?
I was thinkin of Black with a red splash for Hazoret, the Fervent.
A lot of discard, removal, Chandra, just a pure grind deck.
Another consideration is Unburial Rites and Gifts ungiven plus Liliana.
Mono Black Devotion is another option (Obliterator, geralfs Messenger, Lili, Discard, Arena, Garry).
