You actually don't win with Valakut triggers since the mountain count is so much lower that you need them for comboing. You don't actually either have a way to search for Valakuts and usually RUG runs only two of them anyway. Controlling board and attacking with Cliques and Baloths has done the trick for me couple of times against heavy disruption decks like pox but usually you just have to slam the Shift to win the game.
I’m looking for another modern deck that has the ability to win in the current meta that isn’t super expensive. I currently play devoted Druid knightfall and I like it but it’s a bit all or nothing for me. My budget is around 800 bucks. I want to interact and be able to kill stuff but I don’t Have the money for jund. Bloodbraid Elf looks fun’s but it’s not necessary.

Are you too good for ego issues? If so call 1-800-EGOS, that's 1-800-EGOS. Call 1-800-EGOS today!
I think Humans is around $1,100, which is at least close to your budget. Mardu Pyromancer is "the new Jund," and a much better version right now in my opinion. I'd look into that.

Legacy - Sneak Show, BR Reanimator, Miracles, UW Stoneblade
Premodern - Trix, RecSur, Enchantress, Reanimator, Elves https://www.facebook.com/groups/PremodernUSA/ Modern - Neobrand, Hogaak Vine, Elves
Standard - Mono Red (6-2 and 5-3 in 2 McQ)
Draft - (I wish I had more time for limited...)
Commander - Norin the Wary, Grimgrin, Adun Oakenshield (taking forever to build) (dead format for me)
Thanks I’ll look into Mardu, are there any good primers? Also it doesn’t seem to have any shot against control decks like uw control with lots of counters. Any inputs?

It seems to do solidly vs. Jeskai. I would assume slightly more than 50%. I'm not sure about UW. It probably doesn't do the best against that, but I'm sure it's not too bad. I would be more worried about Tron while playing this deck if I were you...

I would assume mardu is fine against most control with bedlam reveler since it's basically a treasure cruise on a 3/4 prowess, which seems like a great way to bury control in card advantage.

This is what I assumed, but I wasn't sure if it would be easy to hold a counter specifically for Bedlam Reveler. I'm assuming that it wouldn't be too easy to save a counter since you'd want to use it on something else earlier, as Reveler is usually the last card from their hand that they play.

Mardu Pyro, Grixis Death's Shadow, UWR Control (not the Flash/Geist version) stuff like that.
There is not a lot of decks that are interactive that 'upgrade' however. At least not off the top of my head, because the cards which interact well in the format are at a premium.
I'm just getting back into magic and have a deckbuilding itch, I've fully built Eldrazi and Taxes and have had good success. I'm looking for something that plays differently and maybe a bit slower that would be ideally no more than $300 investment.
The last time I played was INN/RTR standard and i'm a bit burned out of blue FYI.
I have playsets of tron, birds, finks, voice, razorverge, 1 of each shock and 1 verdant + foothills.
Favorite Playstyle (Aggro, Midrange, Control, Combo): Doesn't matter to me, don't like playing Vial decks though
How Competitive (For Fun, Local Tournament, MTGO, PTQ/GP): Would prefer as competitive as possible but if it trades competitiveness for high skill ceiling works for me
Budget: $1k~
Staples Owned: All of affinity and ponza
My meta is as follows:
1 burn
2 affinity
1 mardu pyromancer
1 tribal flames zoo
1 bogles
1 jeskai control
1 GWr Value
1 Blue Moon
What should I build to have the best chances against this field? Thanks for any help
Does the Bogles' player do well? That seems like a ripe meta for him.

Hi, I posted something similar on the same thread but on the budget part but I do believe I may find my definitive answer here, since I've been researching more and more and have narrowed down my interests about modern.
Cards you already own
Basically all the cheap cards.
Blue: serum visions, spreading seas, unified will, delver of secrets, opt, mana leak, logic knot, negate, dispel, etc.
Red: lightning bolt, roast, abrade, young pyromancer, bedlam reveler, grim lavamancer, pia and kiran nalaar.
Black: dismember.
Colorless: relic of progenitus, damping sphere.
The other colors don't have anything useful.
Colors you like to play
I do tend to play golgari a lot but have no problems playing any of the other colors.
Style you like to play
I prefer playing control, midrange and tempo (in order of preference) but I also enjoy playing with Living End.
Level you want to play at, or aim to build up to (causal, fmn, ptq)
Purely for FNM.
Extra information
- I already own a budget U/R delver and a mono green stompy;
- I'm looking for a deck with broad removal and/or counterspells since I only play at my store once a month;
- Budget should be something less than $600;
- I'm looking for something resilient, that doesn't get shut down that easily by hate because last time I took my rogue GW enchantments deck to FNM and won on the very next FNM people were packing a lot of enchantment hate on their sideboards;
- So far I'm testing with Death & Taxes, Skred Red and Living End.
I know that the words control/midrange and budget don't go well together on modern, but since I have no interest in going to a more competitive level I just want a cheaper deck that allows me to be as oppressive as the budget allows me.
"As long as they're having fun I'm not having fun." - My motto.
I was thinking UW Control would be perfect for you. Gabriel Nassif is playing a "fun" version on CFB this week (I'm actually watching the vid while typing this, lol.) There is also a UW Miracles version that has done well recently.

I do love the UW Control deck ever since Ivan Floch won the Pro Tour with the UW creatureless control back on rtr. But the deck is sadly way too expensive for me. And since I'm not worrying about playing more competitively I think it's too much money invested for too little of a reward, since I already play hard control in pauper so at least I already have a place to play with counterspells.
Is there such thing as a cheaper deck that plays a control game in the style of UW Control?
I think the issue is that you lose a lot by omitting Cryptics, Colonnades, and Snapcasters. You could try swapping these with other cards but nothing really does the same thing for cheaper. Esper gives you Fatal Push and Esper Charm as options. Jeskai is arguably better with Bolts and burn to help close out games. Both decks really want Cryptics, Colannades, and Snaps though.
You could try Faeries but that is a bit more aggressive and still plays Bitterblossom which is not cheap. Maybe you could play that without the Bitterblossoms?
I'm not worried about having the absolute best tier 1 deck, what I don't want is to build a deck with suboptimal budget cards, that was the one thing I learned by playing with my UR delver deck.
Faeries seems like a strong strategy but without the bitterblossoms the deck falls short, and they usually tend to play 1-2 cryptics or snapcasters, I'm going to look around tough to see if I can brew a faeries deck without cryptics and snapcaster.
What I'm truly looking for here is to get some control deck in the same style of UW Control (not necessarily UW Control itself) or some cheaper control deck that allows me to have a little bit of counter magic because with Skred Red I never feel that I'm in control in certain matchups due to the lack of counter spells. And this lack of confidence may be true for me for other non-blue control decks, but perhaps I need to adapt to the idea of a counterless strategy, since most counter decks are very expensive (UW Control, Jeskai Control, Grixis Control, Blue Moon) due to the snapcaster mage + cryptic command shell.
Is there a way to build blue control on a smaller budget? Or should I just stick with non-blue control strategies?

Norin the Wary, Grimgrin, Adun Oakenshield (taking forever to build)(dead format for me)I don't know what you swap for those though. Supreme Will? Mana Leak? Just slotting in Secure the Wastes or White Sun's Zenith? Torrential Gearhulk is a cheaper Snapcaster Mage, but without Cryptic, you lose one of the best things to flash back. Though, it is a better beater than Snap.
