UW decks include Emeria/Titan, Mid-range/Value, Spirits, draw-go type (Classic) Control, and various UWR control or aggro decks.
The decks are so different that they share little besides some basics, fetches, Hallowed Fountains, and Path to Exile. Some decks can be metamorphosed more easily than others, but I wouldn't pick this color mix counting on that.
Hello everyone! I´m in search for a deck to play in Modern!! Since I´m actually on UW Control and even though I love it, I´m trying to find another deck that matches with me and how I enjoy playing Magic. As you can see, I like playing control but I also feel really confortable playing tempo decks (I play all kind of Delver decks mainly in Pauper). So, with that in mind, I´m loocking to find 2 kind of decks:
I´m loocking for a more proactive rather than reactive style of control deck (I love to play with information of my opps hand so I would like something with a good amount of discard. IE: IoK, Thoughtseize and Collective Brutality) or, for a more tempo oriented and/or tempo-control deck, maybe using Delver, Piromancer, discard or something like that.
In terms of cards pool I own a good amount of the Modern staples and don´t mind to invest in the pieces I miss in order to make a deck I really enjoy!
So, if you have any ideas or sugestions, It would be great for me in order to acknowledge those types of decks that fits me and get me on track to find what I´m loocking for!!

4xDark Confidant, 4xGrim Flayer, 3xScavenging Ooze, 3xSiege Rhino, 4xLingering Souls + a lot of disruption?
So then I can evolve into full Abzan
Another option would be BW Eldrazi Processors. That deck is about $500 and runs zero Lillies. Thoughtseize and Marsh Flats are the two most expensive cards by far.
I am interested to play a blue and green modern deck.
I like to play ramp and control and dislike aggro and instant win combo decks.
The deck will be used for fnm

Does a green and blue modern deck exist?
Depends on whether you're willing to accept a 3rd colour. RUG Scapeshift, which is a control deck until it can just go "dead you" is blue and green centred, and has an enjoyable play style at least in my opinion.
Other than that, the UG colour combination is quite underrepresented in Modern, with the main UG deck I know of being Infect, which I don't think you'd enjoy, given what you've said above.

Well, I can saw a woman in two, but you won't wanna look in the box when I'm through.
Blue green decks exist, but generally not the kind that you're hoping for. Green tends to be good at ramping, being aggressive, or putting pressure from big creatures, which limits the types of decks you can expect. You can get ramp out of green, but what kind of ramp deck wants blue (the controlling colour)?
As it turns out, when you've got more mana than your opponent you can just instantly win the game with Scapeshift. The most common UGx deck has always been Scapeshift because that's what that colour combination can do.
There's UGr decks that play a tempo style game, akin to the Eternal Command or RUG Delver decks of old. They're not popular right now but they're certainly something using UG. There's also some Sultai midrange flavours that people are trying to make work now.
I guess maybe 4c Gifts Control is closest to what you want. It's every colour except red, but it's a grindy control deck. It has a bit of a combo aspect to it, and doesn't have a ramp aspect, but it's a control deck for sure.
I can't think of any UG decks that are playing things like Rampant Growth and then not abusing the mana. You basically need to combo finish them if you're going far enough into the ramp plan as the control player.
Could use a little advice. I’m a very long time elf player. I love the deck and know it inside and out. During my tenure in modern, my other decks always seem to rotate because I never seem to truly enjoy them. So I’m looking for a new deck to love and keep for a long time with my precious elves. Cards I cannot afford are Snapcasters, Goyf, Liliana, Mox Opal. (The obvious expensive cards, but not a budget deck). I can pick up just about any other cards out there.
Decks I’ve used & disliked:
Hollow One (too random)
Bogles (boring)
All In Zoo (needed the nuts)
Spirits (not my playstyle)
Merfolk (clunky)
BW Eldrazi (inconsistent)
Soul Sisters (boring)
G Stompy (boring)
W Tempered Steel (wasn’t good)
8Whack Goblins (ehhhh)
Eldrazi Tron (slow)
So as you can see, I’ve been through a lot of decks. I’d prefer to not just play another company deck. I want something different. Fun to pilot and can win a FNM. Decks I was looking at are Storm, Cheerios (without Mox Opal), RG Eldrazi, mono white Humans, Illusions, not sure what else. I need opinions on what you think I would like/dislike knowing all this.
I think of those listed, the best 2 are
1. Storm
2. RG Eldrazi
Everything else is going to take a dip in winning. I played Cheerios before and it did well. I'm not sure how well it will do when interacted with though. Mono White Humans just seems like extreme Aggro and that definitely has holes in it, like you probably saw from Mono Green Stompy. I'm not sure what Illusions is, but if it's the 2/2 Bear, 5/5 Dragon, the Lord, etc., then it is 100% worse than Spirits. I'm not sure why you didn't like this play style, but this deck can be very powerful. Watch Caleb Durward play Bant Spirits. So, I think the choice lies with one of the top 2 in my opinion.
Here's a question for you...do you want to play Aggro/Midrange or All in Combo?
P.S. - Blue Green Merfolk is not quite as clunky as the Mono Blue version. You may want to try that one.

My style is fast. Whether it’s drawing a ton of cards, playing a lot of value, or flooding the board fast. Anything that doesn’t do that makes me sleepy.
RG Eldrazi interests me because of BBE and Ancient Stirrings since they add speed. If money wasn’t an issue, I’d be running Affinity as it’s a crazy fast deck, but sadly the deck got super expensive. Are there any other decks out there I may like? What are some other fast explosive decks. Or decks that “go off”.

Hi everyone! I'll be competing in the second big MTG event of my life the 7 April (Face to face North Bay Open). I've returned to the game 6 months ago after a 5 years hiatus. I competed for the first time in Toronto at the last GP there in February. I'm hesitant on the deck to play : I've been a Bogles player since I've returned to the game, I know the little tricks possible with the deck. It's the one that I used in Toronto (1-4 before dropping). It's a good deck, especially in current meta, but there are tough match-up, and I'm still not over that Chalice of the Void on 1 on the first turn of my first game in Toronto hahahah. For the past two months, I've buyed into Gifts Storm and I love it. Very different than my first deck, but its not the easiest deck to run. I've studied it a lot, watching Caleb Sherer stream and reading his blog, plus praticing it a lot. I feel comfortable with it in small tournaments at my LGS but I'm nervous about playing it at a bigger stage with Competitive Rules Enforcement. I'm asking today, to you, people of the Magic World United (lol) : what should I play in North Bay? It will not be a massive tournament like a GP, but I still feel nervous about playing one the hardest deck to pilot in Modern on a bigger stage than a LGS. Thank you all, opinions and advices are welcome!

I think Bogles can do fine. You can run mainboard Leyline of Sanctity if you want to hedge against discard and other targeting effects. I think it's a solid deck, especially right now. It's worst matchups are super quick Combo, Tron sometimes, and it's own variance.
Storm is certainly another option. I think the hate here will be stronger, but Storm is a better deck, so that is to be expected. If you have practiced a bunch with it and run 4 Pieces of the Puzzle, I think you'll be fine.
Is it too bad to start with abzan build and slowly go the full version? Or is it even better to built Abzan Liege?
Abzan Little Kid is a solid option while you build up to Junk. I actually was talking about it with a few friends yesterday at our LGS. One of our stores has been somewhat soft to it in the past, mostly because people don't run unfair decks there. It loses pretty badly to Tron or Combo decks, so keep that in mind. I usually load up on discard and Stony Silence in the SB for these matchups, even if it only helps a little bit. Good lcuk!

You're kind of describing Bushwhacker zoo. With nut hands, your opponent quite literally can't answer back. They just die, or at least their health goes so low on turn 2 there is no way they can survive turn 3. Here's a typical deck: https://www.mtgtop8.com/event?e=11502&d=265395&f=MO

I'm not aware of a Death's Shadow variant that's legitimately bad against Tron, but if it's not working for you there are other options. RUG midrange is probably your best bet. You get to run Spreading Seas or Blood Moon in the main, and you can have a top end of BBE, JtMS, and/or Cryptic Command. You can also go more controlling with Snapcaster, Huntmaster, Mana Leak, and land destruction.

well i don't know for sure. Just reading it. Maybe it isn't even true ^^ oh and i forgot, want to have black included, already playing Jeskai ^^ wanna have a little change in colors.
Traverse Shadow isn't amazing against Tron, but it's alright. As long as you have Death's Shadow and Temur Battlerage in your deck, you've got a good shot at just killing Tron before turn 4. Grixis Death's Shadow does reasonably well against Tron, because Stubborn Denial (and Ceremonious Rejection out of the Sideboard) is a house against Tron. Maybe a B/W Eldrazi and Taxes would work for you?
Hey everyone, I have three decks currently. Burn, Affinity, and UW Control (*small note - I add Stoneforge when I play with my group of friends). Generally, I like aggro/tempo decks, but what I found recently is that I really like decks with interaction and really difficult skill trees. I really do like Jund, Mono White Death & Taxes, and Humans, or that is how I felt when I tested them.
I honestly don't know where to go for my next deck. I THINK I might want to try a wizard tribal deck when Dominaria hits, but I do question if it will play anything like Humans. A part of me hopes it can be as strong as Humans, or play like Delver.
Is there anything that is full of flavor (Most of my UW Control deck are cards from Zendikar)? Something with exploding plays? Nice comeback potential that can flip the game around with one good draw after trying to establish a good board? I love burn and affinity for how explosive a good hand can be. And I like pseudo combo potential decks that don't force you to go all in. I am more of a toolbox type of player. Generally I want to play with 3-6 types of creatures in the deck.
Anyways. I think I want to make ONE more deck to focus on. And that might be my last deck to focus on for the next two years or so. I have been playing since 2012, and it has taken me this long to finish the decks that I have.
So in summary: strong, explosive, flavorful, and intense interaction. I like the idea of being on 1 life and pulling through to the end and finishing the last 5 or so life that my opponent has left. And one last tid bit, I generally play with my friends, one of my friends play Grixis Death Shadow and about 2-3 janky brews.

I am no expert with the deck by no means but I can go ahead and share my thoughts and experiences with the card.
The card completely changes the gameplan for UW Control. And to be honest, I would hardly call the deck a UW Control deck anymore once Stoneforge Mystic is added. From my testing with a normal UW Control deck and what I call my Jaceblade deck, their gameplans are similar, but one prefers to attack more often than the other. I would consider a Geist Midrange deck to be more in line with my Jaceblade deck moreso than a UW Control deck.
A couple of fundamental things start happening when you add Stoneforge Mystic, the most important however is your turn 1-3 plays. These become more important as throwing the Stoneforge out within those few turns as soon as possible is usually the right play, UNLESS you are playing against burn. I tend to grab the Batterskull first, because to be honest, I don’t mind if it is taken out of my hand, or if the germ token is killed, or Stoneforge is killed. If you can’t play the Batterskull, you play the swords, if you can’t play the swords your backup plan is playing all the other threats within the deck. With my deck, there are about 6 win conditions; Stoneforge shenanigans, Celestial Colonnade, Angel tokens, Sun Titan, Gideon, and Jace ult. You will find that your plays are usually turn 1 Celestial Colonnade, turn 2 Stoneforge, turn 3 Batterskull, turn 4 use Stoneforge to use Sword of Feast and Famine which untaps all your land if it goes through and if not, that is 6 life gain (the untap helps you hold your Cryptic Commands so you can either counter or tap all your opponents creatures so you can attack with Batterskull again, OR you can bounce a target permanent and FORCE your opponent to discard the card if that is the only card in their hand when you hit with Feast and Famine). Well, you get the point, you can start doing a lot of proactive plans against your opponent.
While playing UW Control, you really are just trying to make sure you have more advantage than your opponent, clearing the board as much as possible, stalling the game until you can go for the kill. Although I don’t think that is a bad strategy, I prefer to hurt my opponents, or overwhelm them with a difficult board. Kind of like how when an opponent has two Reality Smashers and a Drowner of Hope in play. Yeah, f*ck them.
From my experience, the combination of Stoneforge and Jace really makes the deck as scary as they remembered when the two were together. I honestly feel as though Stoneforge gives UW Control a nice set of tools to mess with. I will go ahead and give my thoughts about some of the matchups that I have experienced while playing my deck. And a quick summary about how I feel about playing different decks: Aggro can be tough to deal with, especially if they start removing your board left and right or kill you before you can even establish your own board. Control mirrors are really fun because it always feels like a gamble of do they have the counter to stop my counter? I hope not. Admittedly, I have not played against much combo, so I can’t give you too much insight on that. Sorry. And for Tron like strategies… Yeah, turn 3 Karn is just really difficult to beat. Same can be said for a turn 3 Etched Champion with a Cranial Plating equipped.
Burn:
I like this match up, because it really does make you more cautious about your plays. With Stoneforge added, there is actually a good amount of room for error in your plays. But generally speaking, one error could have meant one more turn that your opponent is alive. And for burn, that is a no go. The plan here is to get Batterskull or Swords of War and Peace on the field. That life gain is devastating for them. And with Swords of War and Peace, it is like playing a life gaining Etched Champion. The life gain either comes from an equipped Batterskull, or by nature of the deck the 3-6 cards you will have in your hand when you hit with War and Peace.
Affinity:
Yeah, Affinity is fast, but I do feel like you can’t be afraid of their threats and kind have to go all out on them and answer everything! Stoneforge is not exactly great in this match up but if you can somehow get it to stay and play Batterskull, you MIGHT be able to stay long enough to remove their threats and take back the game. I find my land destruction and Detention Spheres more important in this matchup.
Jund:
One of my favorite matches. Stoneforge is great here. I THINK. Turn 3 Liliana is devastating but if Stoneforge somehow stays on the field long enough then that gives enough time for a Celestial Colonnade to hit, or a Batterskull, or an equipped creature to help out. If not, the combination of Dark Confidant, Tarmogoyf, and Bloodbraid into Liliana ARE pretty difficult things to beat. Not only that but Kolagans Command, Abrupt Decay, Fatal Push, Lightning Bolt, and Maelstrom Pulse are really threatening. But it is kind of a if they got the answers, they got the answers. If not, then it is possible to stall them until you can put something equally as threatening on board. Kolagans Command can really make the day terrible but it is not too bad. If Sun Titan is on the field, then it can make sure your swords come back, and you can just walk through your opponents defenses. You have to watch out for Scooze though as that card can make your plans a little more difficult.
Tron:
Not much I can do against a turn 3 Tron. BUT, with Batterskull and the swords, you have an opportunity to hit hard and out pace them. Also, if all your colored permanents get destroyed, the Batterskull and Swords stay and you can continue the pressure.
Control:
I will admit that Jeskai can threaten you pretty quickly. But this match up is all about being patient and doing your best from allowing your opponent from countering EVERYTHING. Play smart and look for the right time to play what you need to.
There are a lot more matchups I can talk about but that is a briefish idea of the deck. It is pretty powerful and really fun if you like decks that can get really swingy or cause your opponent to say yeah, I HAVE to answer this. I can get into depth more about my plays, and my card choices if you want. I think there is room for another color splash but I honestly wanted to stick with UW since I thought it would be a little different from what I usually play.
In summary: mana base can be lessened since two land plays are important and you can tutor in what you need. It is okay to lose a lot of life then stabilize with Batterskull to gain your life back (some of my favorite plays is Batterskull, then Gideon which forces your opponent to attack Batterskull).
And based off me talking about my UW Control deck, hopefully someone will get how I like to play and can point me in the right direction toward something different but allows me to play the way I like to play.
Wow! It seems like from your perspective that Stoneforge Mystic is not okay for Modern. I know you didn't explicitly say so, but it seems like you are pointing in that direction. Thanks for the perspective. I haven't tested the card in Modern, but my own theorycrafting seems to see it as okay for Modern. I hope there are some players that do some more testing, so we have some more guide points.

I will be pretty much swapping out Bant Knightfall for one of the two Goryo's decks (nearly equivalent in value with some additional trades). Of the two, which one is better moving forward; the Esper Goryo version, or the 'Grishoalbrand' version. As I am only able to invest into one of these so the initial decision is rather important for me due to the manabase.
Obzedat is a pet card for me as it was the card I built around in my first sealed pre-release. The other list with Jund colors seems very strong and highly competitive and runs Breach (huge fan of the arts).
This will be my deck moving forward and used for FNM's and possibly a couple of larger events throughout the summer ect.
Just wondering if there is anyone that has experimented with the two or at least one and if it is a strong choice, or should I stick with the Bant list that I'm working with currently.
Thanks
Spirits
The decks are so different that they share little besides some basics, fetches, Hallowed Fountains, and Path to Exile. Some decks can be metamorphosed more easily than others, but I wouldn't pick this color mix counting on that.

So, if you have any ideas or sugestions, It would be great for me in order to acknowledge those types of decks that fits me and get me on track to find what I´m loocking for!!
why not grixis deathshadow or mardu pyromancer?

Grixis Death's Shadow, Jund, UW Tron, Jeskai Control, Storm, Counters Company, Eldrazi Tron, Affinity, Living End, Infect, Merfolk, Dredge, Ad Nauseam, Amulet, Bogles, Eldrazi Tron, Mono U Tron, Lantern, Mardu Pyromancer
Thanks in advance everyone!
1. Storm

Norin the Wary, Grimgrin, Adun Oakenshield (taking forever to build)(dead format for me)My style is fast.
Or decks that “go off”.
i dont think neither RG eldrazi nor storm is "explosive" (well both have explosive starts, but not affinity level).
https://magic.wizards.com/en/events/coverage/gppho18/grand-prix-phoenix-top-32-decklists-2018-03-18
look at dredge and elves, both are "dump hand" deck IMHO.
I currently run elves.
And yes, I know nothing will be as explosive as Affinity, but I’m just looking for other fast decks. I like playing creatures, I like to go wide, I like to swarm and win. I like to overwhelm to where they can’t come back.
Good lcuk!

Norin the Wary, Grimgrin, Adun Oakenshield (taking forever to build)(dead format for me)You're kind of describing Bushwhacker zoo. With nut hands, your opponent quite literally can't answer back. They just die, or at least their health goes so low on turn 2 there is no way they can survive turn 3. Here's a typical deck: https://www.mtgtop8.com/event?e=11502&d=265395&f=MO
BGW Elves BGW|BW Tokens BW|WBR Sword&ShieldWBR|BUG DelverBUG|UWR Kiki UWR | UR Storm UR
Can I ask you a non related question? How has Stoneforge Mystic been for you in your testing? I personally think the card will be off the ban list within a year, but I'm curious how you feel since you play the card and are not just basing it off emotions.

Norin the Wary, Grimgrin, Adun Oakenshield (taking forever to build)(dead format for me)The card completely changes the gameplan for UW Control.
Here is my decklist BTW:
2 Snapcaster Mage
4 Stoneforge Mystic
1 Sun Titan
Instants 17:
1 Deprive
1 Disallow
3 Cryptic Command
3 Opt
2 Logic Knot
1 Negate
4 Path to Exile
1 Settle the Wreckage
1 Stubborn Denial
1 Entreat the Angels
2 Supreme Verdict
Enchantments 4:
2 Detention Sphere
2 Search for Azcanta
Equipments 3:
1 Batterskull
1 Sword of Feast and Famine
1 Sword of War and Peace
Planeswalkers 3:
1 Gideon Jura
2 Jace, the Mind Sculptor
Lands 23:
4 Celestial Colonnade
4 Flooded Strand
4 Ghost Quarter
2 Glacial Fortress
1 Hallowed Fountain
1 Irrigated Farmland
1 Mystic Gate
4 Island
2 Plains
