Do you want to win with a mass of creatures, or does 1 suffice? I enjoy playing Grishoalbrand, and although it's not in the best place right now in the meta, it's always a somewhat solid choice.
1 is fine. Though I'm curious how that works. I'm presuming there's as much or more removal now then there use to be or am I way off base there?
For the most part, removal doesn't hurt you because you can do the combo at instant speed - Goryo's Vengeance your Griselbrand, then chain Nourishing Shoals until you draw enough of your deck to Through the Breach Borborygmos Enraged, and then throw all the lands at your opponent. Each time they use removal on Griselbrand, you can respond with another activation and each time they use removal on Borborygmos Enraged, you discard more lands in response. It really is very strong against creature removal, but weak to graveyard strategies and Tempo type dekcs.

Hi, i'm comming back to mtg after 4 years. I'm looking for a budget control deck for modern (250eur max). Any cool idea?
You can build a budget UW control deck for that amount - I just did it for my son. You'll have to leave out Snapcaster Mage and Cryptic Command, and possibly Flooded Strand (or maybe just run 2). You should be able to squeeze in a few Celestial Colonnade. Also, you can cut corners elsewhere, like using Condemn and Blessed Alliance instead of Path to Exile.
Hey all. I've fiddled around with Modern on and off for awhile now, and I had a mill based deck online for awhile. I'm finally ready to take the plunge into paper modern though, but I'm a bit stuck as to how to proceed. When it came out I bought the Modern Event deck so I have all of the cards from that token theme. I has have a bunch of rakdos themed cards including playsets of Bloodstained Mire and Blood Crypt. I also have two Fatal Push, a mix of the other fetches from Tarkir with multiples of Windswept Heath and Wooded Foothills and singles of the other two. I have a mix of shocklands as well. I also have a play set of Lightning Bolt and a single Lightning Helix.
I don't have a deck currently so I don't actually know what my local meta is which I know can be a problem. I have quite a lot of staples from EDH and a few singleton cards that are modern staples (Snapcaster Mage, Collected Company, etc...) that I'll be selling to get some money to pick up other options. I really like Mardu colors, and I'm leaning towards either tokens or burn. Given that I have the Windswept Heaths and Wooded Foothills I could see moving to green instead of white. Or is four color viable? I'm mainly looking for a somewhat competitive deck that could net me some wins at FNM. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance!
I'm now working full time and I've got some disposable income I'd like to spend on Magic. I play more Modern than anything else so it just makes sense to buy into that. I've been playing Modern for a few years now and I've got a decent collection, but there's still a lot I don't have. Trying to get an idea of what people think is worth investing into.
What I have: https://deckbox.org/sets/720991 that's the best way to view it. The short is that I have the cards for UW Tron, Affinity, Abzan CoCo, Storm (a friend has what I'm missing), Grixis Death's Shadow, and Infect. I've got lots of other staples which includes most shocks/fetches, Lilianas, etc. I've got a few pieces for some decks but not significant portions for the most part.
Colours: I don't particularly have any I'm adverse to playing. I tend to prefer blue though.
Style: I tend to prefer combo or control decks, but honestly, I'm here building things I don't have that are worth building.
Competitiveness: I'm not building strange rogue decks, only decks that are good for FNM at a minimum.
Budget: I don't particularly have a hard upper limit. Any single deck seems to be within my budget given what I own. It's just a matter of building up my collection. I'd say maybe somewhere between 500-1000 USD.
It'd be great to find something to use my Lilianas with, but I'd need Goyfs to do so. I'm not adverse to buying Goyfs, but in the interest of getting the most money, it's unclear if this is the best way. I have no interest in building Burn or Death & Taxes since I've more or less permanently lent a friend significant amounts of cards for both decks. I also have no interest in Amulet after having moved the deck after the ban (note: I did in fact enjoy playing that deck).
Cards you already own: Khan's Fetches, Scalding Tarns, Bolts, Path, Fatal Push, Collected Company, Birds of Paradise, Eternal Witness, Shocklands, Creeping Tarpits, Deck's I currently have Grixis Control, Martyr Proc, Soul Sisters, BW Tokens, UB Faeries. Mostly play modern control decks honestly can play all blue based ones.
Colors you like to play Blue and red are main colors usually splashing black or white.
Style you like to play: Control, Tempo, Aggro, Combo miss splinter twin
Level you want to play at: FNM (want something I can build into if I really like it for bigger event's)
Im tired of playing control and would like to try something else. Since I started playing magic I have usually played a control or tempo deck or I would switch to a mono color aggro deck for a bit then go back. I would like to try playing a different deck for awhile, but due to being mostly in URB colors I feel like I don't have a lot of staples in Green and . I would like to try and play something I have not before that I would enjoy so I was thinking of trying mostly creatures to offset always playing control which has almost none.
My current modern meta is Dredge, Sun and Moon, Mono Red Goblins, Bw Tokens, GR Tron, Esper Delver, UR/x decks, Beltcher, Eldrazi Tron, Mono Red Burn, Boros Burn, Naya Burn, Jund/k, Naya Zoo, Affinity, Infect, Soul sisters, Gifts Storm, U Tron, Doran Deck, BR Vampires, Mono Red Vampires, Mono Black Vampires, and Skred.

Would be interesting to play especially since I have a play set of them thrown into one of my casual box's. Yeah as you said not needed. The deck was fun, I'm not sure how much I like not having discard or counterspells it feels quite weak to interactive or v.fast combo but was good against a lot of the linear decks and especially eldrazi. The despair of having your cheaper guy be much bigger than Thought-Knot Seer & Reality Smasher feels great!

The most natural deck that fits you and the cards you have would be Grixis Death's Shadow. It operates much more like a Delver deck than Grixis Control. It's entirely a tempo-based deck, trying to maximize value by playing efficient cards (Death's Shadow, Tasigur, Gurmag Angler) with cheap, powerful spells (Serum Visions, Fatal Push, etc.). This one might be relatively cheap for you to build because of the cards you have, as a lot of the Grixis package is something that ports directly from your Grixis Control deck. I'm not sure if the tempo deck is enough different for you.
The types of cards you have don't really lean well toward anything you haven't been playing. You'd probably need to invest a fair amount into a new deck if you wanted to completely change styles.
Cards I Own: All of UR Storm (minus Tarns), UW/UB Fetches. Enjoyed Colors: Blue, Black, Green, White, Red. In order of preference Enjoyed Styles: Midrange, Tempo, Control, Aggro. Combo omitted due to already having Storm. Level of Play: Competitive FNMs Budget: Will be building this deck over the course of the next year as most of my money from selling Merfolk (the last deck I tried out) went to a medical bill. Budget isn't a huge concern, as chances are I'll be trading for most of this deck.
Back looking for a second Modern deck again now that my little foray into Merfolk has ended. Looking for something other than combo since I've already got storm. Previously owned/subsequently sold the following decks in my search for deck number two: Affinity, Burn, Merfolk, Grixis Delver, Esper Draw-Go. None of those felt like something I wanted to keep long term like I do with storm.
Decks that are on my radar at the moment are: Grixis Shadow, 8-Rack, GB Elves, open to other suggestions. Grixis Shadow looks interesting, but with it being as popular/good as it is makes me somewhat hesitant to pick it up for fear of potential bannings. I'd love to hear opinions, though!
I'll definitely do some testing with that! A bit on the high end as far as price goes, but I'd (hopefully) be trading for most of whatever I wind up choosing as my next deck to try so it wouldn't be too bad.
Edit: I'll say I'm also considering a Tron deck of some sort as I've never actually played the deck myself. Is Gb Tron (or whatever flavor of Gx is popular right now) still decent, or is Eldrazi Tron really the only good version of the deck right now? I'm more interested in the classic Gx version than I am Eldrazi Tron.
Hi all!
I'm looking for the cheapest deck to build with the cards I already own. I have 4x every KTK fetch except for flooded strand, which I have two of. I currently have grixis delver (snapcaster mages...), Elves (not running cavern of souls and only using 2 chord of calling), and ad nauseam (none of these cards really slot into other decks, except for the fast lands).
What do you guys suggest I make? I don't really care about the play style, just the price. Thanks!

Well with those cards the cheapest deck you can build is burn. It's quiet fun to play and the only pricey cards are fetches (which you already have most of) and golbin guides (whichs just got reprinted and are the lowest they'll be for a while).
Now it's my turn!
I own almost all WUR staples. Most of khans fetches as well.
I used to play control but I'm kinda getting tired of it.
I've been playing with a jeskai delver/geist tempo list but it's really not getting the results. Normally I go 2-2 in my local fnm's. Losing to jund's or some of the burn decks over there.
I was thinking of building another deck, I always liked jund but it's price is really scary, and I doubt it'd be a deck that would consistently take down the fnm. After all, there are many jund/junk decks there and I don't see them often in top places.
The only requisite I have is that it has to be a fun deck to play, and tier 1 or 2.
I have tron and colorless eldrazi under my radar.

You can build UWR to beat Jund and Burn. Look at Jonathan Sukenik's recent list, which is more controlling with 3 Snapcaster Mage and 1 Torrential Gearhulk. The more "controlly" builds of UWR beat Jund around 60/40 if not more. And you can adjust them to beat Burn as well. ScM and Lightning Helix are a beating for Burn and that's before the Reinforcements come in.

Hey! Thanks for your response. But like I said, I'm looking for something faster than a control deck.
Either straight UR delver or jeskai ou grixis delver.
I don't want to invest in death's shadow because of a possible banning.
Any hints on how to tailor a jeskai or grixis deck to defeat junds and burns?

With grixis if I can stick a delver I usually beat June. Maybe throw in some grindy stuff like a pia and Kiran nalaar/ cryptic command. With burn, if you can survive the first onslaught and counter some stuff, it's a pretty easy matchup imo

Hey, Im new to modern and looking for a deck to play.
I have few instrest to go with, Eldrazi Tron and Dredge. Cannot really decide which to pursuit.
Cards in Eldrazi Tron can be used in lots of another decks than dredge cards, but still facinated by the complexity of dredge.
Both are currently in my price range within 2 months.
My goals is to push as far as i can get and evolve as a player.
atm, i dont own much cards from any of those decks. Having like Collective Brutalities and Amalgams to dredge, but thats it.
Hey everyone. Had some great advice from this thread previous, so am hoping to indulge your experience again.
I am wondering if there exists a Simic list for Modern? I came across the Thing in the Ice one, but it's a full year outdated. I had heard that a Simic list did rather well at an event this year, but have somehow managed to miss it. Does anyone know of any present decks utilising a pure or majority of these colours?

Enlight me boys!
Both are good, I'd say it depends entirely on your preferences. Find a way to test both decks, whether it's Cockatrice or proxying, and then decide which you like more. It's a big investment and you're still two months away from it, so you have time to figure this out.
So, I'm searching for a deck to play. I've started playing modern about 5 or 6 months ago, I guess. My first deck was budget white-red burn. Honestly, I didn't like the deck at all. I decided to stop playing for a couple of months and to look for another deck.
-I don't have many cards: some kaladesh dual lands, 2 fatal push, 2 Gideons, ally of zendikar (strange as it may seem), playsets of lightning bolts and lightning helixes. That's basically it.
-I would really like to play some WB or UW deck, love these combinations.
-I'm not yet sure about the playstyle I prefer. I guess I would like to have either some control deck like UW or Jeskai Control, or some grindy midrange deck, for example, WB tokens. The only thing I'm sure about is that I can't stand aggro.
-I would like just to be a rather competitve guy, to become a better player with each game.
I have been researching decks for quite a while and I think I have found something that suits me, so to say. But I'm really anxious about making a final decision, because I'm not a very experienced player.
UW(x) Control and WB smallpox look absolutely marvelous to me. Abzan and Human Company look fun as well, though it's nearly impossible to play these two decks without breaking the bank.
I've decided to concentrate on the first 2 decks and to try to make them budget. And so I came up with budget UW Emeria and WB Tokens, about $200-$300 each.
But these decks look rather unreliable as for me. Probably, I'm mistaken.
I've considered playing storm or UR Delver as well, but I don't really feel like playing these decks.
Some more info that can be useful. People in my LGS basically play junk, tron, hatebears, death shadow and CoCo. There are one or two people playing UW Control, soul sisters, infect, ad nauseum and one pilot playing faeries. Don't remember playing affinity and burn so far.
That's it, I guess. I'll be very very grateful if someone helps me to make a decision.
P.S.: English is not my first language, so if there are any mistakes or misprints, please forgive me.
So, I know I have cards that are good in modern. I'm just having a hard time settling on a deck. The major things I have to work with are playsets of:
LotV
Snapcaster Mage
Tarmogoyf
Grove of the Burnwillows
And 4x of each fetch and Shock
In legacy I liked to play Burn and Pox. I tend to suck with timing counterspells, so I avoid blue decks that rely on them.

Grixis Death's Shadow, Jund, UW Tron, Jeskai Control, Storm, Counters Company, Eldrazi Tron, Affinity, Living End, Infect, Merfolk, Dredge, Ad Nauseam, Amulet, Bogles, Eldrazi Tron, Mono U Tron, Lantern, Mardu Pyromancer
Enjoyed Colors: Blue, Black, Green, White, Red. In order of preference
Enjoyed Styles: Midrange, Tempo, Control, Aggro. Combo omitted due to already having Storm.
Level of Play: Competitive FNMs
Budget: Will be building this deck over the course of the next year as most of my money from selling Merfolk (the last deck I tried out) went to a medical bill.

Anyone got a suggestion for me?
You can build UWR to beat Jund and Burn. Look at Jonathan Sukenik's recent list, which is more controlling with 3 Snapcaster Mage and 1 Torrential Gearhulk. The more "controlly" builds of UWR beat Jund around 60/40 if not more. And you can adjust them to beat Burn as well. ScM and Lightning Helix are a beating for Burn and that's before the Reinforcements come in.
I think this is the list I'd start with.

Premodern - Trix, RecSur, Enchantress, Reanimator, Elves https://www.facebook.com/groups/PremodernUSA/
Modern - Neobrand, Hogaak Vine, Elves
Standard - Mono Red (6-2 and 5-3 in 2 McQ)
Draft - (I wish I had more time for limited...)
Commander -
Norin the Wary, Grimgrin, Adun Oakenshield (taking forever to build)(dead format for me)Either straight UR delver or jeskai ou grixis delver.
Enlight me boys!
Thanks
Both are good, I'd say it depends entirely on your preferences. Find a way to test both decks, whether it's Cockatrice or proxying, and then decide which you like more. It's a big investment and you're still two months away from it, so you have time to figure this out.
Grixis Death's Shadow, Jund, UW Tron, Jeskai Control, Storm, Counters Company, Eldrazi Tron, Affinity, Living End, Infect, Merfolk, Dredge, Ad Nauseam, Amulet, Bogles, Eldrazi Tron, Mono U Tron, Lantern, Mardu Pyromancer

In legacy I liked to play Burn and Pox. I tend to suck with timing counterspells, so I avoid blue decks that rely on them.
