I have not played against it with counters much, it seems like it ought to be beatable but it's tough to say for sure.
I do think the format is super fast right now and would not personally try to play a breachless titan list. The t3/4 breach kills are too important right now I think.
If you are confident in your build and mental endurance counters is good. It's a great deck right now and the hate is mostly easy to beat. I don't think I could sustain playing 15 rounds with it right now but I think you are a significantly better player than me
Thanks for the advice. I appreciate it. For the past 3-4 months, I have been ready to try to smash with Grishoalbrand, but the past week I haven't been so sure. It still has given me my highest win percentage of any Modern deck, except Eye of Ugin Eldrazi (but I have been close to matching it with a few decks), but I just am not so sure anymore. It would be tough to only fall short of my goal, despite playing at a high level, simply because of the deck. But I also know that this is Modern and anything can happen on any given day.

Did you take a look at the BR reanimator that got tp 32 in the GP this weekend?
Yep, I saw it. Although I haven't tested it, it seems in theory not quite as strong as Grishoalbrand. Believe it or not, there are times when you draw 7-14 cards and it doesn't get you there. With Grishoalbrand, I usually have the option of drawing more after finding Nourishing Shoal and a fat green creature. I could be wrong, but as of now, I don't have time to test it.
I am currently rapidly testing Dredge, Collected Counters, Storm, Grishoalbrand, Grixis Shadow, and Titan Shift. I am leaning more toward Grixis Shadow right now. I am surprised at how good the deck is!

Sounds like you are pretty close to having a U/W control deck, which is pretty strong in Modern right now. I'm building one for my son for his birthday and not spending a fortune...
Like you said above, just get some Colonnades and U/W lands. If you have Snapcasters, you are well on your way. You have some flexibility with counterspells, including cheaper options like Remand. Cryptic Commands would be nice, but you could live without them. Serum Visions, Spreading Seas, Supreme Verdict, Detention Sphere are all reasonable. The planeswalkers aren't too bad either, all $10 or less. You can also get some affordable lands like Glacial Fortress and Seachrome Coast. Ghost Quarter is also cheap. Reflector Mage is a nice affordable card.
Thanks for reply.
Mardu thread caught my attention already. Looks interesting and I will have an eye on that.
I abandoned the idea to buy Lilianas - she is still too expensive and hard to find any for sale in my area. I think it's too expensive compared to the value of the card. Maybe I'm wrong but I don't see any sense getting her by selling a kidney. So I will not go the BG way, but I've just taken an opportunity to buy some other cards, for example Kolaghan's Command. I have Snapcasters already so I think they will like each other We will see.
Seems to me you're sliding towards grixis controlish type without any help and i think that w'd suit u well. Shifting gears is certainly inherent there, and i think its very competitive choice. Death's shadow got u down? Bolt-snap-bolt. Combo? T2 tasigur with denial backup should make them cringe. All and all if u abandon the lily-goyf-control/clock (quite understandably) grixis might be the best bet. Whatever you choose it might be helpful to proxy it up or try it in xmage to confirm it suits ur style, hf!
UW is tier 2 right now, and it's pretty strong. Why not just go with what you know and like? UWR is also viable. Saheeli/Felidar combo is viable and gives an instant-win condition, but the deck can win without it.
I play Modern since the Pod ban and I've started playing UWR, UW and then I've found my love in Twin. I was a blue palyer at heart but after the ban, I've slowly moved away from that, although I played Grixis Control, Delver, UWR Nahiri, UWR Control and UW Control after the Eldrazi Winter.
Since some months, I've sold out my cards and I've bought Affinity, which is probably the only deck that gives me some fun playing since it requires a good skill and math to be played efefctively, but I always wanted a second deck to bring at events, LGS and big Tournaments like the one I did in Milan the past Sunday.
I bought RG Titanshift and that's one of the most boring and, imho, stupid decks I've played in my life, and the meta doesn't intrigue me much as well. Shadow is a very streamlined deck that wants to apply pressure with fatties and discard spells, but it's indeed linear and it's not my personal playstyle (since I think blue should control or at least tempo the opponent, instead of just cantripping).
I don't like BGx style of decks for a similar reason of Shadow, and I don't like very fast, linear combo decks since they're like playing solitaire, and extremely fragile to any hate cards like RIP, Leyline, land Destruction, or even removals and discard spells.
The reason why I really fell in love with Twin was that it was a deck that required respect and good skill to play against, that forced the opponent to play at my pace, denying him to play recklessly without attention. Also, I liked it because it was a "fair" combo deck, capable of winning without even comboing out, becoming a beatdown-burn deck, with the aid of Moon, Keranos, Jace and more stuff in the SB.
I've just solded out Scapeshift and I'm searching for a deck that is capable of winning in multiple angles.
Colors I'd like to play: not really much preferences, I'd say blue but blue hasn't many tools to compete right now, without going Storm, and as I've said, I don't like linear combo decks. Playstyle: control, combo, tempo and, in some way, aggro(combo) are my favourite archetypes. I just don't like simple aggro decks like Elves or Zoo, but instead aggro-combo like Affinity or Infect. Don't tell me Infect although, it seems very weak without Probe. Level I want to play: mainly tournaments, or at least at my LGS, so I'd like a Tier1-2 deck.
I've pretty much tested every deck right now, the only one I could consider is Ad Nauseam, which is indeed a linear combo deck, but it seems the only good one beside Storm.
I've tried, with much hope, Counters Company but it was REALLY fragile and weak to discard, removals and any control strategy. I thought about building a somewhat midrangey deck with the combo inside, but it was impossible to accomplish.
Also tried Copycat and, although I have a friend VERY GOOD with it, thaat's just not Twin, if you know what I mean...
Thanks in advance.

Have you tried Knightfall? It's blue and has 2 ways of winning (3, actually, 2 of which are combos). You get to interact with Spell Queller and Reflector Mage.

I should watch that deck in action actually. It doesn't look bad at all, but how is it positioned in the meta? It seems tier3...
@bluesfan2, I'll keep UW in consideration, but right now that seem just a cute deck to me. I have the base to build it tho.
I feel nearly the same way as you. I actually have a side plan of playing Knightfall when I come back from the GP. (since I don't want to play it at a GP when I know mostly nothing about the deck)
It has always seemed to me to be weak to Combo strategies, although I know you can win on turn 3 technically (seems unlikely consistently). It seems very fun in a more interactive meta, which I don't think it is with the exception of the top deck - Grixis and any other form of Shadow.
I tried UW for a few weeks. Although my record was 10-2, I gave up on the deck. The whole reason I played it was to run into Death's Shadow and I played against 0 of these in 12 matches - Modern is too varied. I'm sure if I played it longer, I would have run into it, obviously. But the deck seemed like it really lacked a way to close some games. Often it didn't matter because my opponent was locked out or running on E, but there were matches where it did matter (I'm looking at you, Tron variants.). I don't know if I was just unlucky or what, but both losses were to E Tron, despite having 4 Spreading Seas, 2 Ghost Quarter, and 2 Tec Edge.
*I should say that it is too early to give up on a deck, but I got the feel for the deck. I feel like it's better to just be proactive in Modern.

I've been a control player for much time, I know the struggle of being almost entirely reactive and that's a thing I don't want anymore. Sure, it's fun, but I specially want to win, beside having just fun.
Talking about Knightfall, it seems weak to combo indeed, also weak to decks like Eldrazi and Tron. I think the Abzan version is straight up better, specially in this meta.
It's a pity we don't have a deck that plays like Twin (no, Kiki Jiki is unplayable), we need a fair combo deck really.
I'm trying to figure out if there's a way to push Counters Company being less fragile (I don't know, maybe cutting some Mana Dorks), adding some removals or discard spells but it seems hard.
Another option could be Eldrazi&Taxes, since I loveEldrazi Displacer so much, but at that point I should just build up Bant Eldrazi, and that's a midrange style deck...
Tell me about it. I played nothing but Control (and the occasional Tempo, but Blue based) for 8 years straight. Then all of a sudden, Wizards stopped catering to UB and I had to go another route. I had to learn how to do combat math and Combo actually intrigued me. For the past 4-6 years, I have stayed away from Control decks for the most part. Even as a UB player, I wouldn't touch some of these with a 10 foot pole, other than for fun.

I currently have bant eldrazi but am thinking about changing it into eldrazi tron since I have all the pieces except for chalice. I don't want to drop money on chalice if E-tron is just a flash in the pan though..do you guys think eldrazi tron is going to be the eldrazi deck that sticks around from now on (and is thus worth buying into/building) or should I just stick with bant?

In Modern, you never know. But as of today, Eldrazi Tron is the Tron to play. I would put it in the top 5 of decks - probably 4th best and a very strong pick to top 8 a GP.
I wouldn't stick with Bant unless you are not really needing the most current, strongest list. You could obviously keep plugging away at FNM and probably do solidly with Bant Eldrazi, but I wouldn't recommend playing it at an upcoming GP.

I've been looking for a deck for a while now. I've got access to effectively all the cards in modern, and if I'm missing any then I don't mind buying them.
The deck I played the most of (and enjoyed) was grixis reanimation/breach (with griselbrand and emrakul). I grew tired of the inherent variance of that deck though. Since then I've messed around with jund, grixis control, grixis tap out, affinity, delver, thing in the ice, mardu walkers, tron, and a few other brews that were terrible.
What I really like was a deck that had a lot of different plays, without everything being the same goal each time (like abzan combo is just combo, tron is just get tron and win). I really like grixis colours, having access to snaps and bolts, with black for some hand disruption. Sadly I don't think control is viable for the high tier of meta (pretty much everyone plays tier 1 stuff) at my lcgs.
I'm not sure what else to say, i've just been looking for a fun deck to really grasp me. Any help would be appreciated!

abzan counter combo: https://www.mtggoldfish.com/archetype/modern-counters-company#paper
i disagree that this is a pure combo deck, this is a combo-value deck, while the combo is always a threat, you win most of the games with values (CoCo into eternal witness, repeat), Tireless Tracker beatdown after SB is a line you will see a lot.

For something kind of different but with less variance than the vengeance/breach deck you mentioned, you can try gifts tron. While the backbone is a combo, you can kill via reach (grapeshot) or board (empty the warrens). Bolts are typically sideboard, and you have past in flames instead of snaps.
If you'd rather snap and bolt and play a more attrition battle, Grixis Death Shadow is available. You can also play Grixis Delver, which offers a similar feel to control but a more aggressive stance that gives it a real shot at beating tron.

I've been away from Magic for some time (Visions was the last thing out when I left) and I've taken the plunge to come back. I've been durdling around with Merfolk and some loaner decks to get the feel for the game again and some online research. But there's so much out there that narrowing things down to decks I'd like to give an extended whirl to is proving tricky. So I'm hoping for some guidance.
When I played before, I always enjoyed decks that won via creatures. I either typically played blue decks that could cheat out larger creatures faster with Mox's/Lotus's/Sol Rings/etc or I played black for hand disruption and quick creatures with either a blue or red splash for removal or counter spells. That being said, whilst Mahamoti djinn might have been a boss back in the day, sadly it's not now. And apparently I'm old...
So I'm looking for a new deck that wins via creatures. I don't care how they get there/on the board, though cheating them out is always nice. In durdling around, I'm finding decks that ignore me to setup whatever combo it is they want are irritating. So something that puts a boot in quickly with a nice big ignore me at your peril sign would be nice as well.

Do you want to win with a mass of creatures, or does 1 suffice? I enjoy playing Grishoalbrand, and although it's not in the best place right now in the meta, it's always a somewhat solid choice.

1 is fine. Though I'm curious how that works. I'm presuming there's as much or more removal now then there use to be or am I way off base there?
Poking at that, Eldrazi looks interesting as does Living End and Mono Black. Elves less so. Mostly because I keep getting run over by them. It seems a lot of people play them locally.
Are the Eldrazi equally valid? Tron looks like the idea is to hold off people with Chalice's, find the cheat lands and go to town. Band seems like it might be quicker with some smaller stuff and mana bots?
The mono black looks similair to my decks before. You know, minus the Hypnotic Spector's. I miss those guys. Sigh.
Living End if I'm undering standing correctly looks like it wants to dump things via the Cycle and cheat them back with it's main card. Interesting.

Any help would be appreciated!
options:
Grixis Death Shadow:https://www.mtggoldfish.com/archetype/modern-grixis-death-s-shadow#paper
look at the decklist, the game plan could be all agro combo, into full control, your game plan have to adapt to your initial draw and opponent deck.
abzan counter combo: https://www.mtggoldfish.com/archetype/modern-counters-company#paper
i disagree that this is a pure combo deck, this is a combo-value deck, while the combo is always a threat, you win most of the games with values (CoCo into eternal witness, repeat), Tireless Tracker beatdown after SB is a line you will see a lot.
jeskai control:https://www.mtggoldfish.com/archetype/modern-jeskai-control-38141#paper
While the plan is to prevent opp doing what he wants, knowing when to go "EoT, bolt, snap, bolt, lets go aggro beatdown" need a lot of skill and no 2 games play like another with this deck.

Suggestions?

Do you want to win with a mass of creatures, or does 1 suffice? I enjoy playing Grishoalbrand, and although it's not in the best place right now in the meta, it's always a somewhat solid choice.

Cheers! Those Chalice's look mean.
Wow! Thanks for the suggestions and links.
