Hi guys.
Some of you should already know me. Normally I would post this in the "What deck should I play" thread but since that thread has become inaccessible to me, I have to do it here.
Since Im a person who doesn't make decisions swiftly and easily I thought it would be a good idea to ask the community on this.
So I do have the "I have too many decks" problem. Don't know if it is a real problem but I kinda think that it is. It's definitely good if you really master a deck and play it always like Patrick Dickmann and Twin for example. I just don't have quite the insight yet that somebody has who has truly mastered a deck. I would like to become one of them but I do find myself with quite a few decks that I built because I was interested in them.
I would like to cut down on them. I don't think that I will manage to reduce it to a single one directly from the get go but 2-3 at most would be a start.
So for everybody who doesn't know me my favorite color is Black followed Blue and then White. That makes Esper definitely my favorite shard and I love playing B/x decks or UB and UW decks. I don't have much love for Green or Red. Those are the "savage" colors as far as Im concerned. I do play them though if the strategy requires them as support colors.
Im a Midrange and Control player so I prefer slower decks that pack much disruption and interaction to ruin the plans of the opponent and not just play solitaire hoping it's enough.
With that out of the way the decks that I have currently built are:
Abzan Midrange
Jund Midrange
Esper Mentor Midrange
Grixis Delver
Jeskai Control
Sultai Control
UR Twin
When giving me advice on which decks to cut keep in mind that your personal opinion on the decks is very welcomed. Im not asking for just the most competitive decks in the current meta. Otherwise everybody would just answer Abzan and Twin and be done with it.
I have no problem playing decks that are not as heavily represented.
Hey cool just as I was looking for a new deck to play in modern this thread comes up. So I played affinity for a while but felt it was lacking something so I switched to a bogles deck which I am now in love with. Now I'm looking for a deck that is more interactive, and still competitive. I hate the Jund and Delver decks that are currently ruling the metagame. The overall price of the deck needs to equate to less than 500 bucks. So all in all I'm looking for an aggro and interactive deck that won't destroy my bank account. Thanks a ton!
Jund and Delver decks that are currently ruling the metagame.
wat.
Are you cool with Twin? It's pretty interactive and very competitive. I would also suggest Scapeshift if you're looking for a more controlling deck. It's not as crazy good as it was when Dig Through Time was legal, but it's still a fun and good deck.
So, I've got a problem about finding optimal deck for me. At first, I was playing Burn, but gameplay was too simple for me. Later, I tried Tron, but I met tons of hate like Blood Moon, land destruction, etc. Today, I'm playing UWR Geist and I lose to Blood Moon now. I don't like both aggro and control. They don't require much or require too much thinking from me, what can be frustrating on bigger tournaments. I'd like to play Midrange, maybe Control with combo finish. Oh, and I definitely want deck that can't be "hated out" by one card like Blood Moon, Slaughter Games, etc. My budget is quite high, but I can't afford Liliana or Goyf.
I hope you can help me
Hmm...scapeshift? It CAN be hated out by cards like slaughter games, but it's control with a combo finish like you want, and it's Gofy/Lili-less. If you really want something that can't be hated out that's midrange and isn't insanely expensive...maybe Skred red? It's pretty resilient to hate, it's midrange, and it's not very expensive.

I would probably drop UWR control and Jund. UWR control isn't in a great place meta wise, and it seems a little redundant, as you already have other control decks, and Sultai is a hot up and coming one. As for Jund, it sounds like it isn't really your thing, considering that two of it's colors are green and red, your least favorites.

Non-interactive and aggro are kind of oxymorons. But Merfolk maybe? One of my friends has it and he enjoys it a lot. It's cheap, and it's aggro. And it's pretty interactive too.
Sorry I meant to say Jund and Twin decks. But I also should have mentioned that I like to avoid combo decks. Idk why but I have a little bit of a distaste for them in general. Thanks for the suggestions anyway!
Huh, well if you don't like Twin, are you down with playing Delver? Grixis Delver is a pretty powerful deck and does nothing but interact. You land your dude early (whether Delver, Tasigur, w/e) and protect it with a ton of removal and counterspells. It's pretty fun, if I do say so myself.
There's also Grixis Reanimator in Modern. Look up Fury of the Horde.

Why not try zoo? It's a interactive deck and it fits your signature =P
Also it doesn't really require Goyf's.

My history in modern has been primarily trying to make cards and decks I enjoy work (more out of budget than a desire to be creative). I enjoy black midrange/control strategies and own most of the staples in grixis, uwr, and general black midrange cards I've collected/hoarded from past standards since SOM standard. I've been playing cruel control for something like a year now and it just isn't working anymore since the metagame shifted sans pod. before that I was on ub tezzret prison, which suffered after drs wasn't around to pick on anymore. UWR control is fairly weak locally and I'm running out of ideas for decks I can afford. If tarmogoyf and fetches weren't an issue, I would play bgx midrange in a heartbeat, but that's roughly a grand I'm not ready to spend. I've seen one or two mono black (ish) decks the past couple months online, but I'm not sure how relevant they really are. It's an idea I'd be interested in exploring to some extent. Any suggestions?
Sorry for wrong place. So, UWR is not well positioned now?
Merged with "What Deck Should I Play" thread
In answer to your question, UWR Midrange is really not doing well at all these days. Mono U Tron is a strong deck in the hands of competent, experienced pilots (see shoktroopa on MTGO), but can be very weak if you are less experienced with it and/or have fast metagames. I'd play UWR Control before Midrange right now, at least if you have the cards to convert between the two.

I wouldn't. Control is doing even worse than Midrange (which is pretty impressive).

Do you have Twin pieces? Grixis Twin would be something you might be interested in.
If not, you could also try some of the lists here. The first one in particular looks like you might enjoy it.

I don't have the combo pieces for Twin unfortunately. As far as combo decks go, it's probably only one I could play regularly without suffering from burnout since its Plan B is often just as good. The Grixis Delve list looks interesting but also really fragile, Dredgevine has been reminding the local meta that graveyard hate matters and it's mentioned in the article how much it suffers from that.
Hello!
I've been playing modern for around 1-1½ year. And i've really enjoyed it so far.
The thing is that i've played most common decks. And i have a hard time finding a deck that i really enjoy and want to continue playing. So i'm hoping that someone can help me figure out what deck to play.
I really like midrange deck with alot of decisions. the deck needs some kinda of Combo/Synergies
i really don't enjoy playing aggro
Control is fun. but i like something with creatures better.
Hope that someone are able to name (write a deck list) that for fills all of this.

It sounds like you would love the abzan company deck. It's basically the melira pod deck sans pod. You play a midrange creature deck and use congregation at dawn and collected company to find what you need.
Also this should probably be in the "what deck should I play?" thread

Grixxis' suggestion of the new Collected Company decks is a great one. It's very much a Podless version of Pod, with midrange elements, synergies, combos, and tons of creatures. Here's an example of a 2nd place list from a 200+ player European event: http://www.tcdecks.net/deck.php?id=16479&iddeck=123198
Thanks you so much for the advice. UWR Control is nothing without the cryptics, am i wrong? hahaha sadly not
UWR Control is going to struggle a lot without the cryptics. Another option is UWR Delver, which would be totally viable without the Cryptics and might fit your UWR Midrange card-base better.
UWR Midrange isn't really that terrible, and you could probably get away with playing it at the right event. It puts up some results, just not as many as UWR Control (and honestly, more than UWR Delver). So if you are wedded to UWR, then Midrange is probably your best bet from a results perspective.
My local metagame contains a scapeshift deck, a merfolk deck, an affinity deckl, and multiple twin and burn decks. Do you have any ideas of what deck I should be looking to build? I don't want to spend too much at once, so something which can built on a budget, then upgraded over time is preferred. The first deck I looked at was shamanism, but it didn't feel like it could beat most tempo or combo decks.
We need to know what your budget is. I could recommend a million things, but I'm not sure you'd be able to do them if you're looking at the Shamanism primer.
I'd be looking for a deck which a budget version can be built of for around $300 or less. I do have a good number of old Melira-pod staples, if that's relevant (but I doubt that podless pod is playable).

Not into delver decks(thems pauper fun), or "new ideas".
I'm old school and like things like fish affinity and combo like solidarity and ant/tes.
I was thinking some sort of reanimator deck.
Well the only viable solitaire like deck at the moment is Amulet Bloom combo so you should probably check that out.
