Hey, all. Currently wondering what deck I should build next. I've been piloting Merfolk for a while now, and while it's fun, I love playing with different kinds of decks. Specifically, storm/something similar to the Standard UR-control looks appealing, but I could also see WB tokens or something midrange-y being fun. Basically, anything not necessarily linear. Something that handles the general meta well would be a plus (my LGS doesn't have a whole lot of defining features, there's a Tron player, a Faeries player, and other than that it's a grab bag; I've seen Living End, Knightfall, some Abzan CoCo, an Affinity player who's started playing Tezzerator, and a few Burn decks).
My biggest weakness right now is sideboarding (which is amplified because of the random mix of decks I face each week), but I'm not sure if I should be increasing my dependence on sideboard-planning to teach myself or just look for a deck with good all-around performance.
Budget isn't a concern, and this is less of a necessity but I think I'd enjoy something with JVPs in it (always enjoyed how the card played from afar).
If like something in UR Control or something similar, Scapeshift could be a good option for you. The traditional RUG Version plays a control then combo's off at the right time. It has a pretty good decision, good sideboard options, and it's a blast to play. I used to play it before the Eldrazi winter and have always enjoyed it.

I'm looking to start playing modern for the first time. I play a lot of legacy, commander, and pauper. I decided to enter modern as the player base is larger than legacy, and gives me more access to games at my local store.
In terms of decks I like to play, I love Legacy Death and Taxes. It is my all time favorite deck. I love white, and I love resilient strategies. I'm not a fan of most combo, blue control, or any glass cannon strategies. As evidence by my love for D&T, I like to play with a solid game plan of grinding my way to victory. In pauper, I play WW Soul Sisters.
White is obviously my favorite color, but Mardu would be my favorite color combination. As long as I'm not playing blue, and am playing white, I'm happy.
In terms of the cards I already have, that isn't an issue, as I intend to proxy what I need and work my way up. As for the level of play, I would like to be as competitive as possible. My store has a vast array of decks, most of which reside in the top tier.
If you guys could just toss some ideas my way, I will do my research and find what suits me best. Thanks!
What deck, other then tron, completely crushes abzan company?
Twin and Bloom. Oops!
No, I agree that Scapeshift would have a pretty good matchup against them. Some outlier decks would do well - like Lantern Control, Mill , I do well vs. it with Grishoalbrand. Tron is pretty much your best bet. I personally think that Control would do well against it, but an Abzan Company player last night said that Control is fine. So take that last one at your own understanding.

I've been all over the place in the past 2 years, playing a bunch of different decks trying to find my favorite one. So far I've played:
Scapeshift
UW Gifts Tron
U Tron
"Draw-Go" Esper Control
UWR Control
Burn
Eggs (got bored)
At this point I have the mana base to build pretty much anything and I'm looking for my next deck. I unfortunately don't have my Snapcaster Mages anymore and I really missed the boat on Ancestral Vision (and can't really justify paying 45$ each until I know for sure I want them in a deck). Having said that, I'm not really on a budget and have nothing against getting another play set of snapcasters if I need them (I guess I do, they're pretty much a staple of blue decks).
I guess as far as what I want to play, control is always been my preferred archetype. I started playing MTG with UW control in RtR standard and loved it. I liked the control/combo in Scapeshift and although I had a blast playing Esper control I went to time way too often at my local store and it got kind of annoying for me and the people I played against.
I've seen a UR Faeries list online which seems fun but I'm not sure how reliable it is (and it had 4 AVs). So I'm thinking maybe a control shell with a finisher that's not just main lands? Or something more tempo..?
Esper Spirits has a variant that works very similar to UW control.

Some Gifts Ungiven Decks are always funny.
4C Gifts is a funny and challenging Deck with a lot of Format Staples packed along a whole bunch of Value stuff.
so i got most of the BG Manabase complete and want to run a Unburial Rites Deck with it.
I came up with Craterhoof Behemoth Dredge, but unfortunately it's pretty fragile and easy to hate out with a lot of disruption running around.

and more stuff commonly seen around Dredge and Vengevine Builds.
But none of my ideas has come close to a decklist.
The main problem is the aim of the deck:
Do i want to outvalue, outaggro or outgrind my opponent?
So hope you get a clue and lead me towards the right idea for designing this deck.
The thing is that at the end, you want a graveyard focused deck, so lets look at other deck depending at graveyard.
Living End: Probably the best "combo" graveyard deck.
Vengevine: the best aggro deck?
I think is hard for you to beat those deck in combo/aggro aspect, so i would probably go for the value/grind/card advantage option, and in this aspect, life from the loam is the best engine, and even then you still have to "fight" with gifts decks and aggroloam (levy style).

Hey, I'm slowly getting into modern but the price tag is so ludicrously high that I can't seem to find a deck that both works and has a low price point. I play legacy dredge and I love the idea of kind of bending how you would traditionally play, something that let's me take a very long turn and can pull of some explosive plays with hard decision making! Thanks in advance.

Maybe UR Storm? On your winning turn you play a bunch of spells and the deck is often able to win on turn 3 or 4. Aside from the fetches there aren't really many expensive cards in the deck.

Hey guys, I'm in search of a new modern deck. I currently play a fairly standard list of ravager affinity and I was looking to see if anyone can recommend some fun, competitive Tier 1 or Tier 2 combo or control decks.

Taking Turns or some kind of Eggs deck might be the deck for you.
Mono Blue Tron is not a great choice and has always been a not very great choice. Eldrazi and Taxes is better and has been showing up in some numbers on MTGO, so I would say to pick that.
I've seen a lot of Abzan Company and GR Tron decks at my FNM recently. I tried to concoct a deck that will do decently in this meta. How do you think this will do?
The SB could definitely use help, but there are some that I wanted to stick to. Goblin Dark-Dwellers is a fun-of and Mana Leak took the place of Spell Snare because it's better against Tron. Feel free to rip me a new one. (I want to beat the new Pod and Tron.) I built a UWR list that I felt pretty comfortable with, but scrapped it due to Tron's presence. What do you think?
