Hey, I am wondering when would be the perfect time to buy Thing in the Ice for a Thing Ascension Deck? Generally speaking when is the best time to buy standard cards? After roatation? A few months after rotation? A month before rotation? What about the eldrazi? YOu think they get even a bit lower now in the Khaladesh spoiler season when all are focused on Artifacts? And lastly: Do you think Pyromancers Ascension is gonna get any more expensive in the next few months? Had the feeling the price is relatively stable.
it's rather surprising for me that these mtg cards can go up so much in price..- @___@
Right? I had purchased some Mishra's Baubles way back when for like $3 each so I could try out the Grixis Delver deck that runs playsets of both Tasigur and the Angler (which was kind of a thing when DTK first came out) only to see that they've increased 10x in price.
It's kind of insane.
Checked the price of Mishra's Bauble at SCG. Oh my... it's that much already - it's even more expensive than some of the Khans fetch lands. I have one bauble for collection purposes, never used it. Is there a good deck in Modern that's using the bauble now?

I felt the same way buying into the whole Eldrazi deck before Eldrazi winter hit in full swing. I bought Eye of Ugins at 2$ and Temples at .50c. Blew my mind when just a week later everything was worth 10-20x as much.
Lucky. You got your Eldrazi Temples for a really low price.
The best answers is: well it depends. Cards in standard that see larger format play usually take a slight dip when leaving standard but then in the following couple months regain their value and then can stabilize or go up or down, based actual and perceived value in the different formats. I like to start looking at stuff a couple months before rotation because standard players are looking to move their best cards early to get as much value as possible from them. From then up to a couple weeks after rotation I would say is when you'll get your best prices. Thing in the Ice is a pretty good buy right now imo. I think it has a lot of untapped potential. Eldrazi is a tough one because it has both a modern and Legacy iteration that is viable. They might be good to grab sooner rather than later because of this. Of course those decks to could fade into obscurity in the next couple years, who knows for certain. Right now though they have carved out respectable meta numbers for themselves. Because of this, their prices should hold and tick up. Prices shouldn't explode though, unless something adds to the deck considerably, though if that were to happen, they would likely eat too much of the meta and see another ban. PA is an interesting little card to look at. It's currently slightly high but stable. Its likely a safe buy though a MM printing would lead to a price drop. I think it would regain its current value and then some though since it's a nice cheap johnny card and it has a couple homes.

Just bought the last two spellskites I need for my UW flash deck. I would advise anyone who wants spellskite to buy it now since it's like $20ish dollars.

On mtgsalvation people don't want to discuss ideas, so I give people something else to discuss: my controversial opinions.
So, guys. I have a lot of credits to my local store(FNM's going great!!) And I am watching Grim Flayer being played up so much lately. Even in World Championship its been rocking the mini 4 rounds of the modern tour.
Do you think I should invest say 32 credits for this card for potential future rise or do you think it will fall again when it rotates out?
Thanks.
The card price is pretty inflated at the moment. I am not sure as the set is very new and the demand won't be high enough to hold the price in the future I assume.

Honestly I would get it. The card is very good and will be around in modern for some time to come. The real card to watch out for is collective brutality. Like I was trying to tell many people, this card is the real deal.

If you're going to play them, go for it. I hear they're the real deal in Abzan. Otherwise I'm not sure I would bother speccing on this unless you suspect Standard BGx to still be good post rotation.
Hey guys.
I'm starting to buy the cards for RG Breach and I'd like an opinion on where to start.
Should I get the more pricey ones (Through the Breach) or should I get Titans/Valakut/Summoner's Pact first?
Or even get the cheap stuff first (Obstinate Baloth, Courser, Anger, a couple shocks/tangos)?
I don't have any idea on what can happen with the prices of these cards, so if you could help me out I'd be glad.
I'd get Titans and Valakuts first, of all the cards you named those have the most room to spike, the land base should stay pretty stable for now.
I agree with this. I haven't heard any speculation about a Through the Breach reprint, but I know CFB is offering $25 for them, so I'm guessing they're pretty high right now. I don't think that they will spike again any time soon, but the safest are probably the cheap cards. I can't see those going anywhere, although Baloth is a bit underpriced right now IMO.

The price will drop a little as more and more Kaladesh gets opened, but I wouldn't wait very long. Also the BW fastland is the 'missing piece' for a lot of decks in that colour so I'd expect it to be popular too.

So, if Breach had a spike recently, it should maintain it's price or lower it a bit in short term, right?
The iterations of Shift/Valakut decks are in their core very similar. Scapshift for examlpe shares part of its land base with RG Valakut and RG Breach. Even better RG Breach and RG Valakut are more similar themselves than Scapeshift. So you could try to get the most parts besides Through the Breach and hope for a good snap online or offline , a reprint or RG Breach decks to cooloff.
In my opinion Thing ascension ist the coolest kid in town, but Valakutdecks are certainly my thing too (You might wanna look into Scapeshift when you got your RG Breach deck - it has more depth in it than RG Breach. Though Scapeshift is a pricy card at the moment as it was only printed once)
//edit: I have another question. Do you think Collevtive Brutality is gonna get even pricier given it's playrate? I had to but got rid of them for around 5 bucks in value. Now I am thinking about acquiring another playset which would be around 12 bucks (euros). Is this in any way justicable? (I don't wanna play the card, it's just for trading/selling value later on)

Yeah, I was talking to some friends today and maybe I'll change my focus for RG Titan Shift. The two main cards are kinda the same price here in Brazil (Breach is a little more expensive, but not that much) and the core is almost identical. I think I'll try to get all the other cards and look for some deals/price drop on Scapeshift/Breach.
Maybe they get reprinted in MM2017 (although I'd like to have the deck completed by then).
What do you guys think about Nahiri, the Harbinger? Is right now a good time to buy? She doesn't seem standard driven so I don't think waiting for rotation would drop her price. I don't need her now, but having her would open me to UWR Nahiri and Kiki Chord.

It could get reprinted (Scapeshift) given the fact that the card was printed only one time, but WOTC had a little unclear wording to what cards get included (obv. they want to make money and don't spoil the actual ***** short before they drop the set - it's understandable) - they said MM2017 would have cards "representing everything from Eighth Edition through Magic 2014–including trips through Innistrad and Return to Ravnica". Now this doesn't rule Through the Breach or Scapeshift out, as those are from Morningtide (2008) and Champions of Kamigawa (2004). But I would not bet on it.
I didn't even know that Through the Breach spiked. Do you guys think that Summoner's Pact or Primeval Titan will spike next?
Given the recent success in Worlds and GP it's likely. Primeval Titan is already around 5 bucks? I don't know how much it was printed and regarding Summoner's Pact just one thing. On Magickartenmarkt.de where I buy, because I am from Germany the card doubled it's value for 2 days after some GPs. So it is possible. The land base is relatively safe I would assume and Sakura Tribe-Elder got printed into oblivion. Some versions are just 12 cents. The cards that already are above bulk could spike, expecially if they are only part of one or two sets as Summobers Pact was.

I agree with this. Primeval Titans have been way up in price before, so it's definitely possible. I sold an extra set that I had around a year ago for $28 for the set, so $7 each to my store. Primeval Titan does have it's share of printings though, with 2 Core Set printings and 1 GP Promo. Summoner's Pact is only in Future Sight and MM1, so my guess would be on this one to spike a bit.
When a card like Through the Breach spikes, it's not likely to spike much more, but it's also not likely to go down any time soon.

Core sets get mass printing. It's just that some of them were real flops, so many packs remained unopened (like 7th edition for example). Core sets get printing as much as the first set of a block. Core Sets don't have much of a problem selling in recent years because Wizards makes sure to put enticing cards in them. MM and EMA are sets that don't get much printing.
I should also clarify that Prime Time is a Mythic in each of these sets. The ones I bought for $18 each went up to $50 at one time during Standard and even stayed near $25 during Modern when it was the kill con in Bloom Titan.
