Speaking of enemy fetches. I remember a few years ago when I still had tarns, and prices of MM goyfs were at the 80-90 range. There was someone in our facebook group selling 2 goyf from MM. I asked if he wants to trade 2 goyf for 2 tarn, he refused. Fast forward to the future, I'm now glad he refused. Goyfs are at an all time low, while tarns are through the roof.
Need some verdant catacombs for my BG delirium midrange... but they're so high right now. No choice but to wait for reprint.
yeah once horizons was announced people (primarily speculators) identified enemy fetches as a major bottleneck for a lot of decks in the format. this is why misty rainforests spiked nearly 20 dollars despite no increase in play demand (in fact bant spirits waning meant demand was at a low). for those trying to expand their collection (as opposed to needing them to play); this is one of the worst times to pick them up due to the artificial inflation.
i also agree that some theoretical 'price cap' exists for different cards, where the community/players sort of collectively decides that its just too expensive. i just dont think its brought up that much because the concept is difficult to impossible to quantify with any sort of accuracy; mostly because it can vary and is rather arbitrary.
its noteworthy that when this happens for certain cards, namely the enemy fetches, that some excess demand trickles over to the cheaper, yet still serviceable, options. in this case that is the allied khans fetches. that, along with similar speculation as mentioned above, has inflated allied fetch prices somewhat in the past few months; despite their relative lack of movement/growth over the past few years.
if modern horizons performs as planned, and invigorates popularity in modern; then id expect a good portion of the modern index to rally and increase across the board. if that is the case its not so much about what cards may increase, but rather which cards are less likely to see a reprint soon. in that regards i believe enemy fetches are above average in likelihood (allied fetches somewhat lower because of a possible reprint not including the full cycle). allied fast lands seem a likely inclusion to standard in the next year or so; either through a core set or a return to phyrexia.
Noticed today. From being less than a dollar some months ago.. Scryb Ranger is now 4-5$ each. I guess this is the effect of Vannifar decks.
It's generally what happens when random old cards are part of random fringe combos or decks. People buy into the hype then feel bad about selling them when it doesn't work out. It's another posterchild of spike price memory, right alongside Bitterblossom and Ancestral Vision.
yeah just gotta recognize price spikes for what they are. or rather what they arent - real play demand. just people betting on some potential, and its largely the space that speculators occupy.
lattice blew up most recently but before that it was serum powder; which spiked at the london mulligan announcement, cooled down a bit, then just recently spiked again (likely coinciding with frank karstens articles on the subject). with zero evidence that it will even be a thing.
but hey its not all bad. my lgs was slower on the uptake for serum powder and i bought 15 copies for 2/per when they were buylisting (cash) for 6. arbitrage at its finest; someones has to keep stores on their toes.

The london mulligan will make combo a lot more consistent, but it also makes it so that the opponent can line up answers better as well. The main thing I've seen online is that people who are not used to the rule will keep hands that are not fit for the match.

Typically what I use to figure out Standard. Doesn't give a specific date, but rotation is always in Q4 around September or October.
Scrying Sheets is seeing a spike. A lot of cards are, though. I think some people who aren't entirely sure of themselves are just getting into buyouts to see what sticks.

Yeah I noticed a lot of spikes recently. Some stuff is spiking because of Spoiler season, but others for "no random reason." I tried to keep up a bit on the spikes, but I've given up.

Nice find. My LGS is a fairly large store for the area; they hold PPTQs (w/e the acronyms are now) and have a solid sales presence online, so they're pretty on the ball when it comes to updating prices. They also limit singles sales to a max of 4 copies of a specific card, so the only singles I'll pick up from them are higher end cards that I'd be hesitant to buy online due to potential counterfeits.
jtms, ugin (spirit dragon), and nahiri are the modern relevant inclusions. pretty crazy for 250/box
Only 12,000 units will be printed though. I'd be surprised if the non-mythic editions fell at all.
Yeah, I'm not expecting it to move the prices of regular printings either. However, this is the kind of lineup that would actually make me consider buying one; I'd probably give it a go if I actually needed a Jace, Ugin, or both. Alas, I do not, so I'll continue avoiding these Timmy boxes like they're an engineered plague. I sincerely hope Gavin's comments a few month ago about how, without Masters sets, WotC would be sprinkling Modern reprints throughout miscellaneous other products weren't referring to ******* mythic edition boxes as one of those reprint outlets.

Speaking as someone who has tried to buy the other 2 Mythic Edition boxes the minute they came out online, it is nearly impossible to get them (in my opinion) anyway. I think you need some sort of high tech computer, which I don't have.
I have a fairly new and expensive computer, but if I still am always "too late." If anyone has any insight on what programs I need to NOT be last, I'm all ears and thank you.

Have they announced how they will be distributing them this time around? IIRC, the first one was through Hasbro's site and the second was through ebay; both methods had their share of issues from what I read.

The Mythic Edition for RNA had a window of more than a day to get the boxes. They were on sale for about 10 hours total, taken down, and then posted again later which stayed up for a while. I don't think a slow computer is your problem there
The one for GRN was just awful because Hasbro's site is awful. There isn't a lot you could do there except try over and over. I submitted 4 or 5 orders and only 1 went through because they all said they failed. Luckily we don't have to worry about that anymore.
Because they are going through eBay, I don't expect any issues other than how quickly they sell out. What I do is go to the Hasbro Toy Shop storefront on eBay and keep refreshing around 3:00 ET until I see them. Adding to the cart and checking out takes basically no time. At least, it didn't for RNA. And I did all of mine on my phone. Now, this is certainly a better box so they will likely sell out quicker but I don't think there is any special method to getting these.
They did say in the article that they will be using the Hasbro eBay.
I'm only curious how you get past the "2 per person" limit.
A seller on eBay can very easily cancel any order from any buyer for any reason.
I meant more "how do I get 4?"
Multiple ebay accounts with multiple shipping addresses. But as a long time seller myself, if I see something fishy, I can cancel the order outright for anyone I feel I don't want to ship to for any reason.
In the words of Matt Mercer: you can certainly try.
Is it possible for anyone in the US to buy the WAR Mythic Edition and send it as a gift or something to Europe with a CoD option, so as not to incur the around 100+ euro taxes?
