well lets just hope that demand doesnt shift towards the RtR shocks to a degree that they go up too much. going for steam vents specifically though is kinda odd.
also i keep seeing people referencing a new upcoming ravnica set. is this just speculation based on vorthos or what?
From a business prospective though going to historically the greatest plane in Dominaria and the new main plane in Ravnica makes a certain degree of sense for 25 Years of Magic. But again I am not convinced the Gatewatch is ready for Bolas immediately.
That's how I'm looking at it. A "Re-return to Ravnica" seems almost inevitable from a business standpoint; IMO it's more a matter of when than a matter of if.
They absolutely have to do a return to another really beloved plane at the moment. The game as a whole is in terrible shape and now isn't the time to try a new plane. It's also the 25th anniversary of magic and outside of Dominaria, Ravnica is the other really big plane that a lot of people love. I don't care what people are seeing at their local level, WoTC has basically admitted elsewhere that sales are down pretty heavily for paper magic, which isn't really surprising. The company is suffering from a death by many cuts scenario due to all these smaller negative events. As it turns out, having drama on youtube, card quality issues, destroying the faith in masters sets, and having two years of horrible standard with bannings really kills your sales. This company feels like it's ran by idiots.
Oh, and their latest article declaring we are in the "feedback era" is not helping at all right now. Seriously, what the heck is that supposed to mean? They weren't listening to people for the last two years so now they are like "hey guys, we've decided to make it a corporate mandate to listen to players now"? I'm at the point where I want to have something positive to say, but I can't find a single thing outside of challenger decks for standard. At least dominaria is good.

I really don't care what they *say.* I don't trust a WOTC employee as far as I can throw one. "Iconic" masters sealed that deal. Hence my refusal to buy new product or anything that's new enough that I can even wonder if money ends up in their pocket.

I did read the article. To be adaptable to change is good, but it is pointless if they are not taking more steps to open up to feedback. The article didn't address how they are getting feedback is what I'm saying. Unless tumbler, generalized surveys, twitter, and Reddit work?
What it sounded like is they are now throwing small product runs, seeing if people buy them, and then print more if sales are good.
Also, I'm not arguing the fact they are taking steps to improve the situation. They are genuinely doing the right thing to try and save the game. It's the stance and posture of the communication that is generating the animosity. If people can look past the business veneer and understand this is as close they can legitimately get to admitting they made a mistake, things would be better.
Back on subject, though, I'm interested in seeing where this new strategy goes. At least now the reason for brawl is more obvious. They can't reprint the high end cards constantly without over saturating the market on a new set so the themed boosters are the leading horse. The challenger decks are the ones taking the rear.

As an update on the MTGO bundle tracking, the bundle I sold for approximately $1150 back in 09/2017 is now down to its lowest point yet at $865, an almost 25% drop. The only cards I wish I held onto at the time were Mox Opals; everything else has lost significant value. This is likely due to a number of factors including the newfound popularity of Standard, pressures from Arena, the Modern off-season, reprint volume, etc. Overall, a great time to buy into MTGO and a terrible time to sell your cards. I also think these prices will keep dropping for the next few weeks, as there are no significant Modern American events until May 19 (SCG Open Louisville) and the big GP Las Vegas on June 14. If you want to get into MTGO, I'd do so in the next few weeks.
yeah ive been slowly trying to get into modern on mtgo over the last 2ish months (sold my D&T deck to fund it, yay humans hype!) and prices are waaaaay down from what they were like 2-3 weeks ago. im talking like a 20-40% drop on serious staples like cryptic command, blood moon, jace, and colonnade (got 2 nades for 13 tix/ea).

I have no idea what a "Gavinland" is (sorry), but if you're referring to the new Battlebond duals, they aren't Modern legal, so...no?
And even if they were... in a 2-player-only competitive format they'd be absolutely no better than the likes of Coastal Tower and Meandering River, and inferior to the Sejiri Refuge / Tranquil Cove cycles. Even if they were technically legal, they still wouldn't meet any viable definition of 'playable'.

Iconic Masters is actually really good. The only thing that hurt it was the timing and the fact most of the cards are for either control builds or purely EDH. MM17 is not a good deal at the moment on the sealed product due to the cost per box. Everyone basically knows that MM2017 is good so they just jacked the price up on the boxes the second the other two masters sets came and self destructed.
My own speculation target is karn tokens. Yes, I know the set is going to get opened like crazy, but have you seen how much the cleric tokens are right now for the old Westvale Abbey? The only difference is that Karn, Scion of Urza is a potential multi-format staple. That and for every karn out there people are probably going to want 4-12 tokens. It's like the Shadowborn Apostle all over again.

I agree with this: on 60 boosters from sealed and draft events, I got 3 Karns and only a single Construct token! (Yes, I am incredibly lucky with Dominaria!) That said, I am currently using the "Construct" silver bordered Token from Unstable as a replacement: correct name, types and P/T; it only lacks the ability text.

Yeah, I only recently discovered that they print the tokens at a roughly similar rate as the card they are tied to. So mythic cards that have tokens also have insanely rare tokens, such as the Benalia Knight Tokens with the really sweet artwork. I've got 16 of those so far and am building up my stash on them like penny stock (Think there's another set of 30 karn / benalia tokens coming in the mail? Have to check). Also been drip buying Unstable full art lands for my personal land station. I want the entire basic land cycle of MtG to go to that style of land just from a play perspective. I have zero trouble finding them with fetches, they are striking, and it lets the artists really put more detail into the land art than usual. Foil double sided zombie tokens are another thing I've been collecting up, but the boat has sailed on those fellows and they are a common creature type.

I'll post mine as well. I sold my entire MTGO collection on the eve of the JTMS and BBE unbanning. I sold for $2,305. I just appraised the exact same collection from the exact same site at $1,920. That's what, about a 17% decrease? I played Jund and Storm in Modern and Grixis Delver and Turbo Depths on MTGO. For about 2 weeks directly after the unbannings I could have made more than what I sold for but it's been steadily falling since. No regerts.
Steam Vents buyout...looks like any decent-condition Guildpact version is now at least $40. Shocks and fetches, at some point, are going to get hit hard to the point where everything ends up at Verdant catacombs/Scalding Tarn prices. UNLESS
MTG does go to Ravnica next and dual lands are released again. Honestly the shocks are tied to the plane so closely it would make sense, and I'd love for WOTC to flat out say "every Ravnica block will feature shocklands." But I doubt they do it this time around, citing a desire to avoid the synergy between checklands and shocks.
Every shock and fetch being verdant // tarn price is a nightmare scenario where new players would find it hard to get any fetch at all. I'm sure there would be a reprint at some point to ease up prices a bit.
Yeah, to be honest, without the Khan's printing to open the door, and then MM17 to really open up the lands to everyone, I dont know that Modern see's all the growth it did.
That said, the original prints of shocks at 40 is...high.

Isamaru, Hound of Konda is on the rise right now, too. It seems people figured out how to use Mox Amber and it has a chance to come from MTGO to paper. Also Cheerios is on the rise again with streamers and the price of Retract shot up.
I'm going to be frank, I'm seriously hoping WoTC is planning on some seriously heavy duty reprints on the fetches and shocks. It's going to get ugly in the next year if they don't do anything. Another thing happening is that the buyout on Masterpieces is now spreading to other places as well.
