Well, they didn't print enough dominaria. Wizards is doing an emergency print run, but it won't come out until at least a month from now. Wow, this is going to be fun to watch.
Hope everyone got their karns.

Is there actually a spot for them yet? I haven't seen any discussion that they'd have a slot in any of the decks I follow.
Affinity is getting some work out of him. Honestly, I wouldn't buy anything from dominaria right now anyway even without the print shortage. Just letting others know so they don't get a bad deal.

From Rudy and they are still printing it to oblivion, just the first run wasn't big enough because people bought more than they anticipated. Also my LGS had to cancel a few preorders since they can't get more of it.
I'm not surprised given the Ixalan and amonket sales.

If stores didn’t reserve enough boxes to run draft events for the next month+ this screams disaster.
If you want to see the comedy ensue, look at ebay and you'll probably see a bunch of people trying to flip boxes they bought for like 100-120 dollars. I'm pretty sure stores are on top of things and have enough in reserve to run the draft events. Thirty days is an eternity in this situation, though.
Also, a bunch of people are always saying wizards prints too many boxes. I say "okay, lets see how this controlled experiment over the next month plays out for you!" I still remember New Phyrexia when the booster box supply ran dry long before rotation even hit for that set.

WotC does print too much modern-day product. That's why there's currently two underpaid interns, on the outskirts of Seattle, digging shallow graves and filling them up with boxes of 'Hour of Devastation'...allegedly. They're still going to print the **** out this set, so don't you worry. Considering this is the first set with the improved card stock, they're most likely still working out kinks with the printers. I recall watching Rudy open a box where his rares kept appearing upside down, so I wouldn't be surprised if there's a handful of minor issues they're fixing before another large run. I don't buy standard product anymore, but I picked up a pre-release kit after hearing about the new card stock. I didn't pull *****, but was definitely pleased with the changes they made. They actually resemble real cards again rather than flimsy stickers; I'll reserve my final verdict for a few weeks/months in order to see if they curl over time.

I tested the stock to see if they started curling under normal room conditions (75 degrees F with 35% humidity), and they don't curl as badly as Amonkhet did at the same conditions. Unfortunately, I'm agreeing with someone else that the cards have a very odd smell and are still somewhat flimsy compared to other games right now on the market, so they still need to up their game on the card stock. I don't even know if HOU and Amonkhet cards will last the test of time given the warping.

Dont you just sleeve them up anyway? I mean random limited jank just goes in a box to die, but anything I get that is playable is instantly double sleeved...

Regardless, the onus is on wizards/Hasbro to improve their cardstock. They can't expect their player base to sleeve everything they play with; there's a large portion of them that are casual to the point of not bothering to sleeve. Even if they made cards of steel, I'm sure more invested players would still sleeve their cards, while the more casual players did not. Hasbro just needs to find the middle ground.
Honestly, even if card value wasn't a reason, I'd want to sleeve stuff just because it makes shuffling significantly easier.
Yeah, the upside is that as long as the cards get sleeved relatively quickly the bending can be prevented somewhat. It still will happen with single sleeving, but double sleeving seems to stop the issue except on the foils. Nothing on this sweet earth outside of a good book is going to stop those foils from bowling.

soooooo is there gonna be some kind of big summer product coming out this year? another masters set? something for commander?
All has been quiet on the Masters front. Core sets are making their return this Summer. New commander product will drop sometime in the Fall. I remember hearing about some sort of new product that's essentially a successor to Conspiracy, but that's about all I know about it.

be nice to see a return to some "regularly scheduled programing" from wizards.
3-4 sets a year with precon decks intermitenly for new players to get into the game.
-----------------------------------
Personally though I want them to drop this "prime time masters series products" its devaluing everything after its first two seasons and its later releases (2016/2017 masters) are a far cry from the quality we saw in original 2013 masters sets. 2015 masters we could feel it slipping, should of been the end for a while but it wasn't. it was followed by quick low quality successors.

I absolutely agree, however, I think the format has grown to the point where some sort of Modern-oriented products are needed in order to regulate the format's cost barriers and keep players happy. WotC and certain players make it seem like a problem without a solution, but like you said, WotC nailed it the first time around with MM13. The bastardization of Masters sets began when WotC/Hasbro realized they could slap the "premium" Masters label on any old box of garbage and charge more money for less quality. Other folks are quick to claim that IMA is where the Masters line went off the rails, but you're correct in saying that MM15 was a far cry from its predecessor. MM15 was ***** at the time, but has aged well due to cards like Karn, Opal, Hierarch, Bob, etc not having seen another reprint since. However, IMO MM17 was the best Masters set of the bunch from a pure content standpoint; if we're taking both quality and affordability into consideration, MM13 is the clear cut winner.
IMO, so long as Modern continues to grow and thrive as a format, there needs to be some sort of product that introduces reprints of staples into circulation. And since we sure as ***** won't be getting those cards in Standard block sets, WotC needs to figure out how to make that happen without tanking the secondary market in the process. I'd be a fan of something along the lines of biannual Modern "specialty" sets that contain a lesser amount of reprints, but have an MSRP that resembles that of MM13. In theory, this would allow WotC to inject needed reprints into circulation, without completely tanking the market. Ever since the Masters line was introduced, its been commonplace to see the prices of those staples which weren't reprinted spike in response. If there were two of these "mini Masters" sets released every year (say one in Q1 and another in Q4), those cards not included in the first set would theoretically spike to a lesser degree since they could show up in the next set just a few months later. This may not be the ideal solution, but WotC needs to find some sort of middle ground, because the writing is on the wall should they go through with their plans for themed sets.
Steam Vents buyout...looks like any decent-condition Guildpact version is now at least $40. Shocks and fetches, at some point, are going to get hit hard to the point where everything ends up at Verdant catacombs/Scalding Tarn prices. UNLESS
MTG does go to Ravnica next and dual lands are released again. Honestly the shocks are tied to the plane so closely it would make sense, and I'd love for WOTC to flat out say "every Ravnica block will feature shocklands." But I doubt they do it this time around, citing a desire to avoid the synergy between checklands and shocks.

The Steam Vents buyout is weird though, because there are plenty of RTR copies available at reasonable prices. It seems like a very silly and misguided buyout target, unless they are just testing the waters for something bigger later.

My guess is someone is looking at the gap between fetch printings and thinking a similar gap may be possible with shocks.
well lets just hope that demand doesnt shift towards the RtR shocks to a degree that they go up too much. going for steam vents specifically though is kinda odd.
also i keep seeing people referencing a new upcoming ravnica set. is this just speculation based on vorthos or what?

Educated Guess. Basically Bolas at the end of RIX is revealed to have plans for Ravnica. Well technically I think it came up on Amonkhet (Nissa had some visions). But during the Gatewatch Defeat at the hands of Bolas, Jace got inside Bolas mind and saw that Bolas has some plan using the Immortal Sun and the Guild Pact on Ravnica. Beyond that Ral Zarek is on the Bolas Payroll and Vraska was put in charge of the Golgari by Bolas. Vraska is also a sleeeper agent as she made a plan with Jace at the end of RIX. So the end game seems to be taking place on Ravnica.
Granted there is some debate on whether the Gatewatch is ready after the beatdown to face Bolas so soon or if Bolas played Jace again. Especially with Lili joining Team Bolas at the end of Dominaria. So presumably its another defeat for the Gatewatch.
From a business prospective though going to historically the greatest plane in Dominaria and the new main plane in Ravnica makes a certain degree of sense for 25 Years of Magic. But again I am not convinced the Gatewatch is ready for Bolas immediately.
