I've noticed a pattern in several GRN Limited events I've played, both sealed and draft - I do well when I play three colors and poorly when I play 2. Is it just me?
When I've performed well, I've focused on one guild and splashed for another guild that shares a color. It gives me more options given my card pool and lets me be more flexible with what I pick in draft. With all the fixing (gates, lockets, shocklands, etc) it's quite workable.
Often mechanics or particular cards fit well with another guild's theme. For example Selesnya or Boros can both go wide. Surveil has synergy with both Undergrowth and Jump-Start (and Izzet effects that count sorcery/instant in graveyard or exile)
If I have some gate-matters cards I might want to splash for those anyway. Once I even ran gates that were in only one of my colors.
In non-multicolor-set limited, 2 instead of 1 color seems to have similar effect. Perhaps I'm improving at Limited in general, I should with the amount of events I'm going to.

Boros bad by itself eh? One of my poor draft performances was pack 1 pick 1 Swiftblade Vindicator and not adding other colors and using W/R at prerelease didn't work either. I did relatively well going straight Selesnya at a prerelease.

That's been true for every Ravnica set, I think. The manafixing is very good and the power level of the gold cards is very good. In other words, there's high payoff for splashing and lower risk than usual.
That's Ravnica all over. You're supposed to be playing three colors to fill out your pool. If you're playing two colors, it usually means you've gotten very lucky, or you've forced a guild for some reason (which is foolish).
I've actually been doing pretty well going for straight guilds. Most of my decks, and most of what has beaten me, have been either straight two color or had a very light splash (eg, my most recent Selesnya deck splashed B for a singleton Assassin's Trophy). I feel like the depth in this set is higher than usual, meaning you can get better on color cards late, lessening the need to go full 3 color.

It’s more like Return to Ravnica and less like Gatecrash. You can certainly go BUG or Grixis to great effect. Dimir is extremely deep and synerigizes well with those shards. I have pulled off 4-color control (Gate themed deck) splashing the cheap removal and winning with 6/6 fliers.
