Since I play Magic almost only on prereleases now (family and work related lack of time), I was happy to sneak for the event two days before leaving on family vacation.
Since black has only 1 zombie and no skeletons for the Baron, and except that, only one removal (Spores), green and blue was mediocre, and red has couple of burn spells, and some aggresive critters, the choice to go with the Angel, I mean white (no other lifelink, but double Gallant Cavalry, Take Vengeance, Angel of the Dawn...) was red. Heroic Reinforcements also helped.
When I realized that I have four 4-power creatures (and only the Ogre is filler, Veterans are great, and I had Instigator and Brute as more goblins), and the Inferno Hellion to boot, I decided to play the Unsealing. And MAN, it paid off...
I went 5-0 with this, four times I comboed Unsealing with Hellion for a one-sided sweeper, and maybe six to seven times just for 4 (at least once finishing opponent, because it hits ANYTHING) When not Unsealing, the deck was usually able to win just on the back of vigilant creatures and the Angels + Heroic Reinforcements mass pumps.
In the last round,I played a guy who pulled promo Vivien, Arcades and foil Chromium in his pool. He was basically the winner of the event no matter what thanks to his pulls But I have beaten him.
I wasn't at pre-release, but if it went anything like my online game with some friends, this was the most funky limited experience ever to be played. I don't think anyone had anything resembling a good deck. I made something I created the flying demon circus. Basically, the entire strategy was get a Pegasus Courser online and have it ferry an angry Havoc Devils into my opponents face. I won 2/2 games and ironically, I did win exactly the way I intended to win.
The promo was the Apex of Power. I'd say that I'm glad I didn't get a Scapeshift, but I'm not sure this was any better. I was surprised how often I was able to draw into just two Pegasus Courser and Havoc Devils.

3. (War of the Spark): Lets make the format with control have even more control!
I often sideboarded out sarkhan. It was a mistake to play it maindeck, it's just not good enough given it's double-red mana cost. I won every matches easily until teh last round. I had a ton of card draw and aways ended-up finding bolas, usually with already 7 lands in play to flip it. Once flipped, he just dominates.
can't remember exact lists but ended up in UR both prereleases I did. first one I went 4-0 with a deck with Sarkhan, that legendary 6 mana dragon, 2 of the 5 drops that you could ay 3 on etb to bolt something and a volcanic dragon. had that sphinx that drew you a card whenever a flyer attacked. deck built itself i guess
second one opened aTezzeret and 2 of that 3 drop that makes an artifact a 5/5 for as long as its around. 2 of that 4 drop that drew you a card if you had an artifact. plus a banefire nd that fish that git you an instant or sorcery back
My limited experience was completely garbage. I understand that it is a core set, but rosewater made it a core set based on making cards for modern. Therefore, most of my rares were unplayables. OMNISCIENCE being a key culprit, infernal was trash, followed by 3 more unplayable rares. I had to win 3/x using a deck made of Commons and uncommons facing people who pulled tezzerets and Nicol bolas.
I am DEFINITELY skipping limited for this set. Draft looks terrible, and sealed pool is garbage fire. Just gonna pick up singles and call it a day. I just can't believe right after a good limited set dominaria, we get modern focused garbage

I think the bigger loss is the lack of a land cycle to power the set. The box EV isn't very good, which means fewer copies of cards out on the market and likely one very expensive Nicol Bolas. Possibly Liliana as well.

I went undefeated on Saturday with this pretty standard UW flyiers deck. I didn't think my pool was good at all, most of the rares were terrible, I am only playing suncleaners because its a 1/4 and not for its text box. I sided a pair of Knight's Pledge against low removal decks slapping it on a flyier lets me get past spiders (greens main flyier defence). Departed Deckhand was truely amazing game winning uncommon.
On Sunday I went 2-2 with an abazan weeines deck featuring Resplendent angel, mentor of the meek and Open the Graves. My black kind of sucked but had a lot of synergy with my white and then my green was a lot better than black, in the end I messed up my mana base and didn't run enough green. :s really hard to run double white double green and double black cards in the same deck. The Transmogrifying Wand was both great for killing enemy bombs and terrible because my 2/2s couldn't attack into them. Vampire sovereign was the card I always wanted to draw in many of my very close games.
Overall the rares suck but there are a lots of really powerful uncommons. The game play is well basic.. but still exciting as it results in close skill testing games. I like that this format is a lot less bomb heavy.

I don't really care about box EV, I rarely tend to play magic a lot, dominaria limited got me back in and I love the set, the feel that I have the potential to play every card in my rare slot, and be able to play a decent deck. As of.m19, my 2/x opponent had all pack playable rares vs. my none. It was very hard for me to even win that match and it only worked because I pulled switcheroo on my garbage for his lathiss.
For sealed, sure, but for draft I expect that the bad rares will have a lesser impact. As noted, the uncommons are very good in the set. departed deckhand was great at hurting them and menacng of powering a final unblockable attack.
Still, I dont'expect that draft it much since I'll be on vacations for a big part of the early time and will probably too far behind draft-wise to compete at my LGS.
Played Esper Saturday
Went 2-0, 2-0, 0-2 1-2.
Patient Rebuilding triggered me. Opponent landed it on turn 5 two games in a row and proceeded to bury me with value from that one card. If you don't have or draw enchantment removal (possibly because it gets milled away), you will lose to it. I absolutely despise that card in limited. Completely non-interactive and unfun.
Selesnya Sunday
Went 2-0, 1-2, 0-2, 2-0
Should have swept second match, but I put too much confidence in Valeron equipment. Sandbagged fatties in hand and got overwhelmed by better creatures. Which led to a game three loss. Oh well.
Also, my cards were pure garbage. Meanwhile people all around me opening multiple bombs each. Quite frustrating.
My pulls were Tapu Lele GX and Ultra Necrozma GX. Pretty solid since I didnt open any Magic packs.
In terms of the prerelease experience, half the store smelt like rotten eggs and they did not have anything to eat sides pizza. I took my Pokemon cards and went home. After I drive home I forgot that I was even trying to go to a magic tournament.
This limited environment did seem less bomb heavy, as well as a little lighter on removal. I ended up with a W/G deck that didn't feel strong but ended up playing well on curve and having creatures with decent toughness that traded well with all the small guys running around. Ended up 4-0 and opened Ajani in the prize packs.
I went 3-2 with a mediocre deck, with no bombs unless you count the black zombie that pumps zombies and skeletons and having 7 zombies/skeletons in the deck as bomb. I lost to a girl who had the green horse and she got it out both games and I lost to a guy who had Sigiled Sword of Valeron and he got it out both games.
