if i open Approach of the Second Sun, i'll want to play it. but i'm not interested in drafting an aggro deck. how can i build a white control deck and/or splash this card in a non-white contorl deck?

Play blue so you can run the Compelling Argument combo. Blue also gives you good card draw so you can get to your Approach faster as well as getting enough lands to play it. Most white cards seem pretty aggressive in this format so I think you might be better off with a white splash. Maybe run green for some ramp? Honestly Approach of the Second Sun seems pretty janky, but if you're going for it I say go hard.
whoa, that's a /lot/ more ramp than i had realized! mixed with the card draw, and you make me hopeful that i could actually pull it off a few times in a tournament. thanks!

Another green card, that could be helpful here is Benefaction of Rhonas. While you cannot find AotSS with it, you can shave of five full turns of waiting with it after casting the Aproach the first time, much like suggested with Compelling Argument. But with the Benefaction you should get something useful, too.
Rezzahan did a good job expanding on what I was thinking but was too lazy to really flesh out :p. The only thing I have to add is you'll want to make sure you pick up some ways to interact early, most likely countermagic like Essence Scatter and Censor. You can play Cancel as well but personally I try to avoid three mana counters in limited. The tricky part will be making sure you don't get run over by the curve out aggro decks while you try to get your durdle on.

Of course, those are all commons and uncommons, some rares may also be of use if they come along, and bombs should not be ignored.
