Me and some of my friends are really considering making a CNS draft among ourselves (outside of the restrictions and rullings of a store). Just take the boosters to one of our homes with some snacks and go down into it but I have some questions regarding this idea.
1. Many of my friends think that if we make it 3xCNS it is gonna be a waste of money because most of the cards are either vintage or legacy, and we mostly play standard or modern. So we are going 1xCNS and 2xJOU and even tought I agree with them I don't know if this is a good idea.
2. Since we are doing this at home we don't know what we are going to pull-out in case somebody drafts a darn Lore Seeker. I was thinking that we may purchase another booster or just take a bunch of crappy old cards and plast them into the draft, but again that doesn't sound like a good idea.
We rarelly make these kind of events so if anybody could give me some pointers I would really appreciate it.
If you're going to draft Conspiracy, go all the way. 1x CNS 2x JOU seems like a waste, because Conspiracy is designed to be drafted as 3x CNS. Take the Vintage and Legacy cards and sell or trade them for cards you do want. (Opening most packs of Magic cards is a waste of money, as most commons and uncommons can be had for pennies and most packs don't have a chase rare. You're paying for the fun experience of drafting.)
As for Lore Seeker, just grab 15 cards that seem relatively balanced and make that a "pack." Have fun with it. Don't waste much time on it though because the odds of opening a Lore Seeker are not especially high.
Basically, if you want to open packs to get cards for Standard and Modern, the simpler approach is to just buy all the singles you need and then set some money on fire to make up the difference.
Do an all-Conspiracy draft to get the full experience, because that's where you're going to get your money's worth on the packs. And then sell/trade any high-priced Legacy/EDH cards you open and don't want.
I thought this was going to be a thread about Conspiracy potentially ruining friendships because of its multiplayer politics.
1x CNS 2x JOU would be a mistake. Go ahead and draft 3x CNS.
If you get a lore seeker just throw in one of the extra pack. Split the cost if it's really a big issue.
Also consider a rare redraft. This will help spread out the money at the end of the night. Opening any pack is a waste of money. The Estimated Value of CNS is higher than JOU anyway.
Now back to Conspiracy ruining friendships; Be cautious playing multiplayer formats with friends if you have not done so before. Competitive players don't like when they become the target of 2-3 players and have no real shot of winning.
Thanks for all the pieces of advice, I was also thinking about going full CNS but when we make drafts we like to go nuts and just do it as crazy as possible. Still the point about getting standards cards vs the vintage ones is a pretty solid point.
hey guys one question. I've bought a box of conspiracy to draft with friends. if there's only 4 of us, do you still use 3 boosters for each person?

When there is only 4 people you can use a booster more, since there is a lot fewer cards to chose, so many of the archtypes in conspiracy will be hard to make

Maybe try something even more fun. Draft one pack, Make a 15 card deck and play a quick Multiplayer match. Then draft another pack and add it to your deck and make a 30 card deck. Rinse Repeat.
Hopefully no one in your group is gonna hate draft in Conspiracy
Plus it adds a whole new dynamic to signals between packs and switching colors
Edit: I may try this with my group in a couple weeks when I get the time to draft it. Let me know if anyone tries or has tried something like this in the past.
