And while not utterly insane, the place where I got these in the packs was... rogue refiner (P1P14 - that's when I knew this was going to be epic) empyreal voyager (P3P9 - best, safest wheel of all time?)
Despite my deck screwing me pretty badly on opening hands and mana flood/screw, the insane value and draw power was too much to not go 3-0.

Achievement unlocked: Won a match with exactly 0:00 on the clock.
This game dragged out to 19 turns. I hit Demon of Dark Schemes turn 5, which immediately hit Revoke Privilege. Opponent followed up with Master Trinketeer. We both proceeded to flooded out, drawing mostly lands each turn. I couldn't draw removal for Master or Destructive Tampering or anything useful. To avoid getting swarmed out by Servos I had to keep flinging my creatures into Servo gangblocks to generate energy, then reanimating both our energy creatures aggressively. At one point I had his Thriving Rhino, 2 Aether Herder, and Renegade Rallier (which Revolted back an Aether Chaser). My trampling Enraged Giant kept coming back for more trades.
Finally with less than a minute left, I alpha strike him. He had tapped out to Revolt Conviction and play Call for Unity, so he's finally not able to generate multiple Servos to chump block. For once, I have more creatures and some must go unblocked. He blocks just enough to go down to 1 life. I manage to click through all the energy-creature and combat triggers fast enough to activate Welder Automaton twice so that combat damage kills him at exactly 0:00.
Havent played in years... The last prerelease I attended was whatever set Bitter Blossom was in lol. Went to my local card store for their sanctioned draft... 4-0. The kid still has it. Apparently the players are still way better online and know not to pass me triple artful takedown.
Izzet vs Dimir/Golgari. Game 3, after I punted the win in game 1 (my attack had him to below 4 and I had Inescapable Blaze in hand with 5 lands up, planning to finish him, but I clicked through priority on his kill spell to Goblin Electromancer without casting Blaze in response).
My deck had 2 Expansion // Explosions but I hadn't drawn either copy up to this point in games 1-3. I desperately needed one or the Blaze earlier to stabilize against his board, especially the 6/6 Molderhulk. Finally, with less than 20 cards in library, as the clock was ticking down and opponent was drawing through his deck, I went for the Hail Mary. Instead of casting Connive to steal his 2/4 Drake and try to race with Leapfrog (time-consuming), I used Concoct (Connive // Concoct) to revive Citywatch Sphinx just to chump Molderhulk. It was an elaborate way to Time Walk and Surveil 5, letting me dig 6 cards to sculpt my next draw step. It paid off. I found an Expansion // Explosion, drew it, and made him draw his deck for lethal at exactly 0:00!
from April 2017 (prerelease Amonkhet) to Jan 2019, I attended prereleases for every single new set.
starting with Amonkhet and going forward, I didn't lose a single match. I won every single round in every single event for basically a two year period. undefeated 100% for most of 2017, all of 2018.
also worth mentioning that I never really had any on-colour bombs. My decks were almost universally just a pile of decent uncommons/commons.
Last weekend at Rav Allegiance prerelease, I went 2-2 >_<. first loss in such a long time, it took me by surprise hahaha

Last night went to my LGS to find it was UMA draft instead of allegiance. Somewhat annoyed, I shelled out the 35 quid, never having drafted the set before.
Cracked a foil karn in pack 2. Got the buy round 1. Got absolutely crushed round 2. Narrowly won round 3.
7 players, with 2 box toppers as the main prizes. I got second on tie-breaks and got a box topper (engineered explosives) despite basically sucking at the draft.
War of the Spark Limited is just as I imagined it would be: Early-game plays that are mostly meant to facilitate setup for planeswalkers and huge game-ending bombs. Plenty of board stalls, as people like to accrue value with their superfriends.
That's what my first Prerelease deck was.
I went RG with a splash of black for removal and Aid the Fallen. I played a 50-minute game 1 where I cast Chandra, Fire Artisan to hit a desperately-needed land drop, then had her die to Price of Betrayal. So I played out another blocker or two, then a Vivien, Champion of the Wilds a turn or so later. I used her to draw and flash in creatures for a few turns, before casting Aid the Fallen to get back a creature and Chandra and using her to keep the card advantage train rolling.
Vivien eventually died to an Ashiok's Skulker, but then I cast Ugin, the Ineffable and blew it up, then got back Vivien and a creature with another Aid the Fallen. Afterward, I proliferated all my planeswalkers with Evolution Sage and Courage in Crisis, which happened to grow my Mowu, Loyal Companion from a 3/3 into a 9/9.
Once I found Angrath, Captain of Chaos, I could finally force through enough damage to finish my opponent off with Chandra's ultimate - while I only had five cards left in my library.
The problem with defining this format by what is "fun" is that everyone seems to define fun as what they don't lose to. If you keep losing to easily answered cards, that means you should improve your deck. If you don't want to improve your deck, then you should come to peace with the idea that you are going to lose because you chose to not interact with better strategies.
Went to the grand prix Magicfest in London (few hours away) for the world's first prerelease grand prix.
Went 5-2 in my first flight off a pretty sweet pool with jace and liliana. Still had a good time, although the 70 pound price tag felt brutal, especially without a playmat. 6-1 was necessary to advance to day 2, which is just insane imo. But anyway.
Second flight (WU this time, with jace, time wipe, and white finale) I managed to get to 5-1 going into the last round. Lost the first game handily to bad draws, but took the second game easily. Third game I was dominant most of the game and just chipping in for damage in the air. We went to turns and I thought I had it with my flyers, but forgot about the lifegain off spark reaper. I could have won if I'd been paying attention and removed it precombat, and I also had an empty library with jace in play, but no way to draw. I don't always do great under pressure, and there were a solid 10+ people crowded around our table, including a judge telling me to hurry up (piss off, this is the last round and we're already in turns ). After some minor groveling the guy conceded, advancing me to day 2!
After the horrendous misplays of that least game of day 1, I played really solid, clean magic all day. Ran esper with teferi, dreadhorde invasion, and phblthp, so decent but not amazing. Had some sick blowouts - blinking my kasmina after she was attacked by storrev to both reset her loyalty and deny the recursion off storrev was particularly sweet imo. Also countered an enter the god eternals with crush dissent, which was awesome. Had to face down 3 opponents in a row with Kefnet (blargh) but beat two out of three. Ended up going 4-2-1 (drew in the last round thinking it'd put us in top 32...it did not...whoops). Still really pleased with how it went, besides that last game of day 1 I think I played some of my best magic of the past year, despite the pressure and the elite competition. Got a sweet $300 for the weekend, which covers my entry fees and travel expenses...with $30 or so left to spare. Lol. First time I've ever gotten a cash prize from magic in my 18 years of playing the game. Hell of a weekend.
Wiped the floor with five colour pile in MH2 draft last night. Windmilled Garth pack one, pick one, and spent the rest of the draft confusedly grabbing ramp, fixing, and removal. Turns out goblin anarchomancer into terramorph into revolutionist into terramorph is pretty good. Mardu dragon and Garth were my closers, and I didn’t lose a game.

That's still very good. I'd be happy with that win percentage.
Rashmi, Eternities Crafter (P3P3)
Quicksmith Spy (P1P1)
Merchant's Dockhand (P2P5?)
yes, that's right, 3 repeatable draw engines in one deck! But there's more rares.
Aethertide Whale (P2P1) - among best limited control finishers ever imo
metallic mimic (P1P2?)
And while not utterly insane, the place where I got these in the packs was...
rogue refiner (P1P14 - that's when I knew this was going to be epic)
empyreal voyager (P3P9 - best, safest wheel of all time?)
