Affinity can be really difficult game one because shriekmaw doesn't do anything! Goblins can be a serious pain in the ass too if they get too many War Marshals and go Matron into Matron into Ringleader its just too much to handle! Vial or Lackey on the play is a rough ride.
This.
Played a game against a friend's Affinity the other day. The game went like:
Him: Land, Opal, Drum, Thopter, Frogmite, Plating
Me: Land, Inquisition killing Master of Etherium
Him: Ravager, equip plating, beat for 8
Me: (Shriekmaw in hand) FFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU-
I die shortly after
Game two, he boards in Needle, GY hate, I don't stand a chance.
What can we do? I think we should just give up on this matchup. Affinity only pops up from time to time infrequently.
the only card to watch out for is ravager and plating,
i really think that there are far more things to worry about in the current affinity builds than that, those were the caards to worry when in extended, disciple was banned and master of etherium and steel overseer didnt existed, nowadays there are a lot of threats there.
anyway ill try to elaborate in a buried alive-less version shortly.
cheers

What list are you running to do this, seriously? My friend IRL plays affinity and I assure you the game is by no means lost pre board, in fact I win most of my games vs. him pre board, the only card to watch out for is ravager and plating, as long as you don't overextend (I.E keep 1 more blocker than they have threats so they can't beat you down after a galvanic blast) you can EASILY out card advantage them.
I'm using your list except with therapies instead of duress! Yes Gatekeeper and Nighthawk win the game. However if I don't know what im playing against and keep a hand of TE, Krovikan Horror, shriekmaw, and only one Gatekeep its kind of hard! If there's a therapy in there then its good cuz i can bring the gatekeep back. I guess its not as bad as i thought even though our best creature is dead against them.
What are you running now Pinguster? I've read this thread and TBH this deck has evolved quite a bit. I have the budget OG build and my meta consists of WB apathy (some:cool::cool::cool::cool:'d up version of mill), 2 land belcher, U/G madness and B/g pox. Was thinking about running your last posted aggro version but it kinda hurts losing G1 to belcher and apathy. Thoughts?

Thanks a bunch. I'll have to modernize my list quite a bit to get where you're running with it now. But ya the madness is a block constructed deck with mongrels and rootwallas and all sorts of yard goodness. I'm thinkin the Void should shut that up right quick. Congrats on top 4. Hope you take it.

I haven't had time to look at my own build yet-3 papers due on Tuesday- but I'm likely to be going heavier on the discard to make up for my absence of Bobs.
EDH, on the other hand, is more like a monster truck rally. It's more about the spectacle than the race, the games go long, and it's not usually clear who's in the lead until there's only one truck left.*
Single player EDH is like two guys smacking each other with pillows... until one of them pulls out a shotgun.
I like ss as the cost reduction and it can target multiple things. The drawback is that it won't hit a play-set of win like extraction will. But your build, your call.

This is not an aggro deck. Why would we want to run Flesh Reaver?

An ability exists on the stack independently of its source. Removal of the source after that time won't affect the ability. Some abilities cause a source to do something rather than the ability. Any activated or triggered ability that references information about the source checks that information when the ability is put onto the stack. Otherwise, it will check that information when it resolves. If the source is no longer in the zone it's expected to be in, its last known information is used.
Yeah, we aren't really an aggro deck, also nighthawk flies, lifelinks and acts as a killspell. Basically every creature in the deck other than bob and hexmage is a killspell.
The other downside of Flesh Ravager is that if revealed with Bob, thats 2 life lost when you reveal him, then another 4 when he swings. Dammit I need some Bobs and Jittes. How about Nantuko Shade or is he a little too aggro? He's not a kill spell and does little but get pumped, there's no synergy with the rest of the deck but at the same time-he is a good beater.

I find this deck is land-light. The shade won't get as big as it would with traditional MBC + Cabal Coffers.

I just came first in the MTGS tournament by the way. Despite the fact I may or may not have avoided playing against vengevine survival or the fact I may or may not have got very lucky against landstill.
Match 2 vs. Some guy with (he was a nice guy actually, one of the friendliest I played) Dark Horizons (can't really remember this, just know I won 2-1)
Game 1
I died to big creatures, I think bob was the culprit
Game 2
Sided in smothers for needles(?)
Killed stuff
Game 3
Killed stuff
That's all I can remember
That would have been me.
G1 I believe I curved out IoK (TE), Bob, Knight, Knight
I miss-sided, bringing in Leyline of the Void due to knowing your deck and playing a much more graveyard dependant version myself. In our three games, you didn't activate TE once. I believe that Hymns/Verdicts came out for 4 Leylines/2 Deeds
With only 8 effective critters to beat with and mulling for unneeded hate, this tipped rather out of my favor as the shear amount of removal here did me in as I'd taken most of my disruption out and just had to eat what was served up. G2/G3 I just never stuck enough threats to hide from Gatekeeper and Shriekmaw

Have you ever considered Thoughtpicker witch? It acts in a way very similar to the Sliver, but it doesn't require you to discard any cards. Controlling the top 2 draws of your opponent is probably just as good as having them discard a card as you can give them force them to keep drawing into lands or a creature if you have good removal.
Are the reasons there are only 2 Factories:
A) Wasteland
B) The deck likes its black mana
I am wondering whether it is worth running Macabre over Leyline. Leyline does let me nuke their graves forever, but Macabre is recurrable and can pull tricks. (Leyline is down to like $1.5 anyways now because of the reprint so I'm probably gonna get a few playsets)
Memoricide > Cranial Extraction (just in case you run 4 Factories lol)
I think both the Witch and Sliver are a little sub-par for this deck. Once the game gets to the point where you've emptied their board and they are in topdeck mode, there are very little draws that most decks can pull which will put them back in the game. Plus, Jitte races them very quickly in that situation. Maybe if you run the Buried Alive package with one Sliver/Witch...
Yes Macabre is SO much better than leyline. Only thoughtsieze will rip it from your hand and you normally don't care if it in the yard anyways. There is so much void hate out there that a lot of 'yard players will MD it. Then there's the instant speed removal of targets like Loam, reanimation targets, dredge dudes, and the ever important Ill-gotten Gains target/s. Can also shrink goyf to laughable proportions.

Against Landstill, why not board out the Gatekeepers and side in Okiba-Gang Shinobi? Or does the problem arise in that there are too few evasion creatures in the deck? I am amused by swinigng in with Hexmage, then after first strike damge being dealt (on the assumption its unblocked) ninjaing in for an extra three damage and the discard...

Huh? both have the same CMC? Apart from a slight difference in text (you don't have to take the entire playset with memoricide) I just prefer the art on extraction and own some.
Technically you don't have to take it with cranial extraction either. If you search their library and fail to find all cards with the named name, you don't have to take them all. The only real differences are art, legality, name, and the arcane type.
