I think the real deal breaker for me for not playing GRW loam versus 4c or GRb is the unavailability of Land Tax. If it gets unbanned next time (In my dreams) I've been off and on piloting a WRg version and a parfait engine version.
Obviously parfait isn't really aggro, so while it behaves interestingly, it's off topic.
Without Scroll Rack, Tax is a pretty good option over BOB. Not that i don't like BOB, I just am trying to plan ahead in case.
However, the deck definitely needs as many engines as possible to get that card advantage up.
For people trying blue splash, anyone have any luck with treasure hunt? I have a few ideas on what to consider (Intuition, Fact or Fiction, etc), but that seems closer to psychatog than aggro loam, so I want to break out of the pattern a bit.
i run the blue splash version with intuition and am wonder if anyone else feels that uncharted realms would be a better card to play over intuition?
So far i'm seeing the benefit of fuel for both crusher and terravore. 1 more land in hand for fueling seismic assault unlike intuitions 1 land in hand. its green which is better than splashing a color i suppose.
Unlike intuition though it doesn't fetch life from loam. Muchless tutor for stuff thats not land when your in a pinch.
based on all situations that i've used intuition for before
would it be crazy to think of running both?

If you really want to run blue for Intuition and want to compare it to Uncharted Realms what it always comes down to is you can not grab Life from the Loam with Uncharted Realms. Like in 43 Land Intuition is simply better.
With that said, other than Intuition are you using blue for anything else? I myself am running 4 color Aggro Loam with RGbw. the black and white are for Dark Confidant and Knight of the Reliquary.

Seeing how its been a little while, I wanted to post the list that I have been running lately. It has been doing very well and I am very pleased with it.
I really like the 4 colors. Sejiri Steppe is fun and acts like a better version of Trample when you need to swing in for the win. With the help of Life from the Loam I have been able to play Sejiri in back to back turns by Wastelanding or my own Steppe and getting it back with Loam to beat in unblocked again. Its usefulness as a combat trick has been a big help.

This is my first post here, but I've been lurking around the Legacy forums forever. So I'm trying to put together Aggro Loam, the RGbw version. I'm having a little trouble fitting in everything I want to.
First of all, Areys, I see that your list is 62 cards...which ones shouldn't be in there? Otherwise, I really like the build. Right now, this is my build.
Devastating Dreams is...absolutely devastating. I would never cut it from the main. Even with Wish builds, I feel that Burning Wish into Dreams can be a tad slow and so I want at least two copies main. Seismic Assault is also a card I would like to have at least 2 of, though 3 preferably. It basically allows us to dominate combat, completely destroy weenie decks, and have incredible reach. Eternal Witness has been awesome the few times I've drawn it, getting back a sweeper or beater or at worst a cycle land or Wasteland. The only problem I've been noticing is that I don't have any maindeck answers to problem artifacts and enchantments other than Explosives, which is too slow for getting rid of things greater 2 CC.
So, I want to ask, is explosives really necessary? I know it can be good against tokens and quick aggro decks like zoo, but setting it to zero often killed my chalices and diamonds and Dreams can be just as devastating. I really want to use Explosives in the build since I just traded for them, but what do you guys think? Would it be better to replace them with two Maelstrom Pulse?
What about a wish build with -2 Explosives, -1 Eternal Witness, -1 Life from the Loam, +4 Burning Wish? The wishboard would consist of at least the following:
While I think using Wish to fetch sweepers may be too slow, I think Wishing for a Maelstrom Pulse to kill that Jitte or whatever may be good enough. Is there a general consensus on which build is better?
Nice catch that there were 62 cards in my list. The 2 cards I had listed extra were the Engineered Explosives. They are as you pretty much mentioned too slow. Having Burning Wish in my main board is enough answers for almost anything. In almost ever case where I need something on the board dead and quick for the exact same cost as EE I can get there with Wish + Removal Card I fetched for. In short the other inherent problem with Engineered Explosives is the inability to play him when I sideboard in Gaddock Teeg whom I play 3 of in my Sideboard to counter various decks that I find problematic. Take Counter Top Progenitus decks. I will board in all of my Gaddocks because he makes it impossible for them to cast Natural Order and Force of Will. If I can get a Chalice of the Void on 1 they can no longer Swords him out of play either. It inevitably makes it a downhill race in my favor after that. My creatures will continue to be big while theirs are just mildly annoying at best.
Overall I love my list and probably wont be changing it for some time.

Has anyone tested Horizon Canopy out, perhaps in place of a few cycling lands? With the utility lands that lists seem to be edging towards, it might be nice to replace 1 or 2 cyclers with 'em just so you can keep a decent amount of mana sources.
I don't think Canopy should replace the cycling lands for two reasons: it takes up our land drop, and takes up 2 mana instead of 1. While it could be in the utility land slot, I only have space for 1-2 max and Stronghold takes up one of those slots. I've been happy with 20 mana lands but I wouldn't go any lower than that. I'm not at the point where I'm fine tuning things like utility lands, but some other suggestions I've heard are Maze of Ith, Glacial Chasm, and Tabernacle. Anyone have experience with these?
Regarding sweepers, has anyone used Firespout main? I know I was very adamant about Dreams before, but getting it countered I've realized is not fun. Firespout can act as a mini Dreams when we need to slow down a quick aggro. Dreams can remain in the Wishboard as a bomb.
As far as Wishboards go, how does this look?
1 Life from the Loam- Obvious
1 Devastating Dreams- Bomb
1 Maelstorm Pulse- Pinpoint artifact/enchantment removal
1 Reverent Silence- Mass enchament kill
1 Shattering Spree- Mass artifact kill
1 Perish- Progenitus/green creature hate
1 Chainer's Edict- Removal
1 Worm Harvest- Against control
What about the remaining 7 slots? I think some combination of graveyard hate (Leyline and Crypt), Teeg, and Zuran Orbs.
Firespout should be in the Sideboard as a wish target almost 100% of the time. It is a DD without the drawbacks. Having a DD get countered hurts more than Firespout.
If you look back at my list. I run 4 Layline of the Void 1 Bojuka Bog for GY hate. Note that Reliquary can fetch the Bog at instant speed. 3 Gaddock Teeg has been pretty solid for me as well. After that the rest of my list is just a this and that of different removal and of course Loam. There are no wrong choices in sideboarding cards once you have the 4 Leylines, 3-4 Teegs and 1 Loam in there.

Yea, I'll definitely be testing Firespout vs. Dreams as soon as I can....probably after finals week.
Bog is an excellent suggestion. Totally forgot about it. I think that plus Leyline is good for gravehate. Teeg is kinda bad with Chalice, but I guess you just have to make sure to cast Chalice first. Otherwise, it's also pretty good Dredge and Combo. What about Zuran Orb? Is it not significant in the storm/burn/aggro matchups to be considered?
Zuran Orb is a great card sure. Gaddock Teeg just does a better job at anti combo. The only real issue is that if you do not have the Mox Diamond He is 1 turn slower.
If you want to swap out Teegs for Orbs its no biggie. They do the same job against combo (make it really hard to get enough of a storm count) but the reason I chose Teegs were to combat Belcher decks. Zuran Orb just isnt going to save you from them flipping out 60 damage from Belcher.

1.) Anyone who thinks cancel is viable should be shot. in the face. with a hammer.
2.) You misunderstand, what I was suggesting was the total exclusion of Spellstutter Sprite, because it just isnt that good anymore.
3.) Understand, Dredge is not really a Magic: The Gathering deck. When a card is playable in it, it doesn't mean it's a tournament playable card. It means it's playable in whatever crazy fantasy world that Dredge operates in.
just saw your list and thought i'd make one comment.. i would keep maze in the board and replace it with another thicket.
if your playing in a small meta, and maze maindecked is needed, then i'd still pull something else out for a thicket.
Actually the reason I run 1 less Thicket not because theres a different land in it's spot, but I am actually running 26 lands instead of (the supposed) more common 27 land lists. For this reason I removed 1 Cycler land to put in an additional Creature slot. Because my list is 4 color I needed the extra 4 slots for the Kight of the Reliquarys. To get there I went -1 Bob -1 Crusher -1 Seismic -1 Thicket.... Now before anyone gets all "I would swap a this before a that" I just would like to mention the list has been tuned to run best with those chosen cards removed and that though suggestion is always welcome that is not really the direction I would like followup responses to go.
I do sometimes (and I will emphasize that it is an extremely rare sometimes) always having extra cyclers in the GY for Loam draw power, but Maze of Ith is a must main deck card for me. It stops 2 major problem swingers for me in 2 different matchups. 1) Iona when playing against Reanimator... It buys me a LOT of time to figure out a way out and 2) Opposing Exalted Tarmogoyfs, which I would like to point out are a huge pain in the ass at times. Being able to make their Exalted swinger stop dead is a game changer in many cases. There have been other times where I have been saved by the lone Maze of Ith as well and I personally wont remove it any time soon. The one card I bounce back and forth on is the Basic Mountain. The reason I run it at all is because there are a few Back to Basics running around in my Meta. Otherwise its the most likely candidate to becoming the 6th cycler again.
Just curious as to what others have been thinking as of late. There are 2 things that I am wondering about. Some people are doing lists with Chalice of the Void Sideboard and/or no Burning Wish. What are everyone's thoughts on these more aggro Aggro Loam variants?

No burning wish isn't unusual. It takes up too much time/mana in certain MU's. It's easier just to board in K-Grip for game 2 if you expect leylines.
Making the deck a little sleeker in the face of all the blue based aggro control floating around is probably the best way to take it. Unless WotC starts printing some friggin' bizzare cards for loam colors or bans some stuff, the deck is basically going to rely on other people playing FoW to keep combo down in a metagame, so I'd aim for winning against blue based aggro-trol and other aggro decks. Ideally for this deck, I would see it boasting a better than 50% MU against NO Bant, Tempo Thresh, Merfolk, and Zoo, with combo (storm/reanimator/belcher) being its worst MU's.
Dropping chalice is a head scratcher unless it isn't a very developed metagame, chalice is only good against well developed decks. Loam isn't as fast as zoo, flipside is without chalice, you get access to Thoughtseize, Lightning Bolt, and Swords to Plowshares. But really, I'd imagine someone would only drop chalice because it's a scrubby metagame, or they're only playing agaisnt Gobs/Merfolk all day.
I'm really against cutting Chalices from the main. Not only does it make it very difficult to remove huge Knights and Crushers, it almost always stops a good portion of the opponents deck, even if its just Brainstorm (which can actually make quite an impact). And there are those matchups where it just shines but shutting off half of their deck...Thresh, UW Tempo, Burn, Zoo to some extent. And of course, the combo matchup. If its subpar in that matchup...you can always side it out.
Burning Wish, from what I've heard is more of a personal choice. Some opt the more tempo-oriented route and cut it from the main, just going for more redundancy. Some like the versatility it offers. I've just been having some difficulty fitting in enough answers without Wishes, so I'm seeing if it slows down my game too much. Also, without Wishes, we get much more freedom with the sideboard. Although we may not be able to get of some problem artifact/enchantment game 1, we can bring in Krosan Grip, which is arguably better than Maelstrom Pulse at what it does.
EDIT: Jimbo basically said the same thing.
Does anyone have tips in the Merfolk matchup? I've found that its surprisingly difficult. They just crap out a ton of lords and have a ridiculous clock before I can stabilize. Aether vial is also very annoying when I want to wipe with a Dreams.
But I got hosed by 40 some land and emrakul combo before the top 4 cut in a tournament yesterday. I was attempting to put trinket mage to the test but didn't go as planned
3 life from the loam
2 devestating dreams
4 burning wish
2 intuition
3 seismic assault
4 mox diamond
4 chalice
2 engineered explosives
2 tranquil thicket
3 forgotten cave
1 maze of ith
1 academy ruins
3 wasteland
4 wooded foothills
2 scalding tarn
2 mountain
1 forest
2 taiga
1 volcanic island
1 tropical island
Trinket mage seemed like a logical addition for getting a chump blocker and either a chalice or EE answer, but doesn't mean much when your up against combo of course. But needs exploring.

This build has been pretty successful for me, but I didn't know if there's anything new I could be using for either the main or side.
No reason you can't run both Red and White. I think that's what alot of people are switching to right now. Our mana base is pretty good since we have 26 lands and Diamonds. I would recommend just adding white instead of replacing red.
