The reason for Chalice having been drobbed is most likely that you still lose to maverick and it eats a spell snare if it is ever important, also a lot of artifact removal is out there because of Stoneforge.
Burning wish is in my eyes way too slow, and I would much rather play something else MD and have my sideboard free.
Just started playing this deck after switching from Dredge and I am loving it. I'm just not sold on my numbers, I like having options but I can't decide what I should focus more on, any suggestions? Playing in a meta with:
High Tide
BW Control
Elves
DragonStompy
Mono White Stax
Dredge
RUG Delver
Reanimator
Also, why do people decide to run Tarmogoyf over Terravore? I get that Tarmogoyf is good, (Duh), but even with the need of double green and one more mana, Terravore seems so much stronger than goyf in this kind of build.
Goyf is generally faster and less prohibitive than terravore. Goyf also doesn't die to an opponent's relic of progenitus (although he does become a 0/1).
I have seen some lists that run Terravore in place of Countryside Crusher, but I still think Crusher is better overall.
Remember, this is mainly a R/B deck that splashes green for LftL and goyf. Adding double green into the mix stretches the mana base a little more and makes you weaker to opposing wastelands.
Here is my current list that I have been playing the last couple of months. I started with David Rice's version from SCG Providence, and altered it to be able to better deal with the combo/griselbrand decks by adding some discard.
I am looking for suggestions on how to improve the list, so any help would be greatly appreciated.
Loam in its roots has always been a red deck, with green being the second color then black, most lists run black for pulse and bob, and maybe some disruption in the board, and 3CMC on EE. Earlier in its life the deck was Red/Green ruing Devastating Dreams and Burning Wish.
On goyf vs Terravore, the 'vore dies to relic, costs more, has a heavier mana cost GG hurts in a deck that typically wants every land to tap for Red, I've also had situations where I could only loam for 2 lands to keep from killing my own vore, its also 1 less damage you take when bob flips it to you.
The sideboard depends on what you're playing against. I'd suggest:
1-2x Noxious Revival
0-2 Virtue's Ruin
0-2 Firespout
3 Surgical Extraction (I have 2 ooze maindeck)
1 Devastating Dreams
2 Ancient Grudge
2 Krosan Grip
2 Red Elemental Blast
3 Chalice of the Void
I mean, it really depends. Having some number of grave-hate, swarm hate, Chalice, and some Art/Enchantment destruction is usually a good mix. Revival is nice for dodging Surgical Extraction as well as bringing back a countered Seismic or something.

last time i played my board looked like this
3 Leyline of the Void
2 Red Elemental Blast
2 Chalice of the Void
3 Firespout
1 Emerkrul
2 Zuran Orb
2 Perish
The Perish's were a wasted slot. should have been something else to deal with high tide/sneaky show. The single Eldrazi was because theres this guy I play with who loves to play Grindstone
Fun fact: If you use Goyf and Terravore you can use Cavern of Souls :p.
Now back to your regularly scheduled program.
I personally prefer to use Burning Wish just because it increases my Game 1 vs every deck.
Sideboarding for loam really depends on your meta. Because it seems like Loam has a lot of 50/50 matches then an almost auto loss vs combo. So you kind of have to decide do you want to increase your low win % matches or your matches vs combo. My last SB looked like:
I changed the Anarchy to Massacre because it just so much better vs BW, and Maverick.
Jund charm has won me so many games I want to put it MD. It wipes out Dredge Zombies, or clears their graveyard. It also wipes out Linger Souls tokens. If Elves don't combo off before you get 3 mana then you can clear their board also. But chalice usually slows them down long enough so you can wipe their board. Down side is its bad vs Reanimateor.
The deck still needs some work. I want to try it without Burning Wish, but it gives me so many free wins that I don't want to.

If I were to be playing this deck again I would most likely be playing the Chalice md... it destroys RUG Delver and a lot of the other blue decks.
Ofc that makes faithless worse... however I think the deck needs to be more aggresive and try to lock the opponent out since people are playing fast and powerful decks, so right now durdeling around with a faithless looting is really not the thing to be doing.

The bonus of faithless though can add counters to Crusher, get dredge going when you're conserving mana, and late game dig. It can be a problem against Sneak Attack and Show and Tell, but you have a better matchup against them after SB.
One concern of mine is combo decks like Belcher and High Tide. (SB Leyline for dredge) I have been considering putting Canonist in SB to handle them, but was wondering if relying on Mox is too short to be able to cast it.
Hey all, just wanted to give you a brief report from the SCG Legacy Open in Atlanta this past weekend. I played Aggro-Loam to a top 64 finish going 6-3 with the following list:
R1 vs Goblins: 1-2 (0-1): Kept a slower hand game 1 on draw and got crushed. Boarded in Spouts, Darkblast, and 1 Ancient Grudge. Game 2 went much better, used removal to hold him off and was able to grind out the game. Game 3 he had another fast draw and was able to wasteland/port me early to lock me out of casting my spells.
R2 vs Goblins 2-0 (1-1) Won the die roll this time. Both games I had removal for his early spells. Was able to resolve early goyfs/crushers to keep his creatures at bay.
R3 vs Goblins 2-1 (2-1) Same story as round 1 except I won the die roll and got to start on the play. Kept hands that had removal + early blockers. Game 3 I was able to wasteland his cavern and he was stranded without mana for 4 turns while I built up.
R4 vs Esper Stoneblade 2-0 (3-1) I consider this a good mu for us. Our game plan is bigger than theirs and ancient grudge out of the sideboard is really good against SFM. For boarding, I bring in grudges and REB/Pyroblast.
R5 vs RUG Delver 0-2 (3-2) Both games my opponent had draws that included multiple lands/threats/counters. He was able to resolve and protect delver + Mongoose/goyf. I had wastelands, but for every wasteland I played he seemed to have the fetch to make up for it. It didn't help that I drew fairly threat-light both games, but them's the beats.
R6 vs BUG Delver 2-0 (4-2) Both games I was able to resolve Bob's on turn 1 and my opponent didn't have immediate answers. Game 1, I was at 2 life from being attacked by a delver for 5 turns. I managed to resolve seismic assault with a loam in the yard and a land in hand. I killed the Delver and my opponent had no follow up. Game 2, I fought through 3 Surgical Extraction ripping my wastelands, loams and bob's. Surgical just isn't very effective against us because while it did hinder plan A, I was able to switch gears and rely on Goyf and Crusher to seal the deal.
R7 vs UW Stoneblade 2-0 (5-2) Same story as above. I really feel like this match up is highly favorable for us. They don't really run answers for seismic assault, so resolving one is very, very good. In game 1, my opponent was able to flash in batterskull off of a SFM he was able to protect. I responded by resolving crusher. My opponent attacked into me with crusher and I had multiple cycle lands in hand + loam in the yard to blow him out.
R8 vs WB Stoneblade 2-1 (6-2) Lost the first game off a mull to 6. Opponent led with t1 and t2 discard, leaving me with only lands. I then proceeded to draw land for the next 3 turns while my opponent resolved SFM and flashed in batterskull + sword of fire and ice. Games 2 and 3 were more on par with the other Stoneblade matches. I was able to resolve Bobs and Seismic Assaults.
R9 vs UR Delver 0-2 (6-3) Both games my opponent had pretty solid hands that included delver/guide and burn spells. I boarded in Zuran Orbs, but didn't draw one. I don't know if it would have made a difference. His hand in game 2 was really good, having multiple bolts/chain lightning + delver/guide and fireblast to end the game. These decks also play price of progress, which is very scary for us.
Ended the day at 6-3 which was good for top 64 and a $50 cash prize. This was my first ever cash in a SCG event, so I was pretty happy. I managed to dodge combo all day and stay out of the draw bracket where all of the UW miracle decks were. My sideboard plan for SnT was ensnaring bridge. Most SnT decks don't have an answer for the artifact, outside of SnT'ing an Angel of Despair. The bridge can make our crusher's less impressive, but it completely locks griselbrand/emrakul from ever attacking until it is dealt with, allowing us plenty of time to resolve Seismic Assault.
One thing I wanted to mention, and this is simply just an observational opinion, is my feelings toward UW miracles and, more specifically, Sensei's Divining Top. I really hope that WotC considers banning top in legacy, not because it is overpowered or too good, but because it causes an inordinate amount of draws to occur. A friend of mine was doing really well in the event, sitting at a comfortable 6-2, until he faced against UW miracles is round 8. The game went to time and eventually ended in a draw, which put him in the draw bracket which was filled to the brim with multiple other UW miracle decks. Inevitably, he played against another miracle player in round 9 which also ended in a draw. The 2 draws knocked him out of the money and were strictly caused by both player's over-utilization of Top. Every time a spell was cast or an ability was activated, the miracle players would activate top and spend 10-15 seconds looking at cards and reordering. While 10-15 seconds doesn't sound like much, when you activate top 30-40 times over the course of a match, it adds up.
Top seems much more fair on MTGO because of the way time is kept, more inline with how time is kept in a chess tournament. If the top player spends all his time topping, he loses. In paper magic, the non-top player is punished with a draw because his opponent spent 15-20 minutes of the game durdling around and doing nothing.
Anyway, that's my rant. I know the report isn't super in-depth, but I'm at work right now and don't have access to my notes.
If anyone has ideas of a better sideboard card, other than Zuran Orb, I could use to help combat burn-based decks, please feel free to suggest. Thanks!
Only things I am completely unsure about are the sideboard and whether or not I should include one of the planeswalkers.
The manabase is relatively smooth, the curve is right where I want it, and the deck performs adequately. I feel as though the sideboard is literally all over the place, and there are some options I don't particularly like (Zuran Orb in for literally one card, not packing some sort of seperate artifact and enchant destruction) but replacements stump me hardcore.
@notRichterbelmont: I am trying to rebuild my aggro loam deck. I haven't played it in almost a year now. But I think the Maelstrom Pulse should be Abrupt Decay. Only because the can not be countered clause can make a difference some times. I prefer the Burning Wish version to the others because it gives me a better game 1 against more of the field. I still haven't found the right number of creatures yet. But I feel Liliana should be in the deck somewhere. Only real issue wit the deck is card advantage. We have good card selection but often run out of spells to exchange with. Leaving us with relying on the Loam engine to win.

i live in a COMBO light meta only combo near me is reanimator and dredge. belcher... everything else is relitively critter generic. rug, bug temp, esper stoneblade, merfolk, goblins, maverick non punishing. and some nic fit variants.
this decks runs very well in my meta and pretty much eats every fair MU. my only struggle is against combo turn 1-2 as most without FOW do HAHAHA. so i am posting here because i want to take this list to LAS VEGAS in december for SCG and want some out of town feedback and maybe some RINGER ideas card choices or tweaks prior to arrival.

First off, this isn't really "Aggro Loam", as this is pretty obviously a control deck. I kind of like it though.
Some comments/suggestions:
1) Why Sylvan Library? You're rarely going to want to pay the life for extra draws, and you don't run enough dredge to do the multi-dredge strategy. This seems like it should just be another Sensei's Divining Top
2) Why Wrath of God? You already run Top, make these suckers into Terminus!
3) Your sideboard is all over the place. RIP-Helm seems bad, as RIP tear apart your deck's strategy. If you really want some graveyard hate, why not Tormod's Crypt? At least you can still play loam around that. RIP only really seems recommendable if you're expecting to play a lot of Dredge. Cards I would recommend here to fight Combo include Leyline of Sanctity.

I agree this isn't aggro loam. But there is literally no other forum with the ability to relate to this deck.
SYLVAN LIBRARY is another E. tutor target and if I keep a hand with low mana I like dropping it on turn 2 and being able to spy for free. And yes the LFTL is insane with this card and 1 is plenty as is 1 top. Not really clunky for me whatsoever. I like it as a singleton. And easy SB out pending MU..
The GY hate is a lot. But I am completely sup Sept able to it in g2 since everyone packs hate for dredge.. so by kind of flipping deck I can just auto win if they have a leyline online or if I get the rest in piece. Really nobody expects the win out of nowhere.. who would...
As for the other ideas I will have to test out and see what's up.. thank you form the positive feedback

Does Deathrite Shaman have a place in this deck? I feel like it should, but I dont get to play enough Legacy to really test it. I also think that IoK/Thoughtseize should probably replace lightning bolt, so we are not so completely dead against combo

Top seems much more fair on MTGO because of the way time is kept, more inline with how time is kept in a chess tournament. If the top player spends all his time topping, he loses. Only things I am completely unsure about are the sideboard and whether or not I should include one of the planeswalkers.
The manabase is relatively smooth, the curve is right where I want it, and the deck performs adequately. I feel as though the sideboard is literally all over the place, and there are some options I don't particularly like (Zuran Orb in for literally one card, not packing some sort of seperate artifact and enchant destruction) but replacements stump me hardcore.

this decks runs very well in my meta and pretty much eats every fair MU. my only struggle is against combo turn 1-2 as most without FOW do HAHAHA. so i am posting here because i want to take this list to LAS VEGAS in december for SCG and want some out of town feedback and maybe some RINGER ideas card choices or tweaks prior to arrival.
