... one can always get around Prelate by spending more of the same colored mana into Engineered Explosives. For example, if Prelate is set to 3 and you want to kill it, you can cast EE for something like GGRB, so the CMC=4 but Sunburst=3.
Yes that is exactelly the idea and a good reason why a Lands deck with EE is superior to a simple RG Lands deck; just my oppinion.
Well, there are trade-offs with Engineered Explosives: the most basic of them being that with the blue in the deck contributing to a more controlling build with this super removal spell, you're necessarily putting the combo a bit to the background and not slamming 20/20s as quickly or as often as you otherwise would be. There are matchups where the most reliable path to victory is making the 20/20 as soon as possible, like UR Delver.
As for results, it's a bit of a wash, with both forms of the deck performing well in the current metagame.

There is a reason I originaly chose the RUG build over the RG combo build: I never wanted to just get the combo out as quickly as possible. Why? Because the deck would just be like my other decks: Win as fast as possible with your unfair combo. And for me, the combo feels unfair because it only works with the latest legendary rule so, the rules of the cards are not originaly meant to do this thing like this (I still ask myself why the counters must be removed and not put on until there are 10 counters, but that's another story). Sure, the deck works because of the combo; maybe it would just be unplayable these days without it, but I didn't want to play Lands because of the combo, it was because of the whole rest: Have an answer (in form of uncounterable lands) to everything. It makes me sad, that the old form of RUG Lands seems to be too slow now. Especially the loss of Tolaria West. But I want to stay at the control build as good as I can. So: Not beeing able to combo as fast as possible is not a bad thing for me. But would wish to find a more control way, maybe a faster one, compared to the RGu wash we have now.
I really like solemnity. I play the RG fast combo version right now primarily because burn makes up almost 30-40% of my local meta which makes winning with RUG a lot harder.
Solemnity gives me the potential to chasm lock much earlier than usual for a pretty light splash.
Yea I may do that now. I was doing it earlier in the RUG version but maindecking it in RG just felt like a waste coz i'd dredge it way too often. So fast combo focus just gave me a better chance in the matchup. Once you learn to play the matchup its not so bad, i never commit enough lands to the board for price to actually do more that 6 damage to me unless I am going for chasm lock. I was losing like almost every game but i've brought my stats up to about even now i feel.
i never commit enough lands to the board for price to actually do more that 6 damage to me unless I am going for chasm lock.
I had a rough match vs UR Prowess recently. I needed 5 lands on board to combo because I was leaning on a Maze. 1st PoP I answered by copying a Basic to save damage. Next turn he had POP number 2 in response to Stage copying Depths.
Yea, the double price matchups are where I don't think you can do much. Longer the game goes, less comfortable I feel because any top deck could be 10-12 damage. That's why I am quite liking the solemnity change (specifically for this matchup). A mox/exploration on t1 lets me setup for t2 chasm lock which is impossible for them to race and I have this while still keeping my fast combo potential.
Tested 12 matchups with a friend on burn (all without sideboard) and went 10-2 which is a STARK improvement. Have a heavy playtesting session next week where I can see how the change has impacted my other matchups and will update here after that.
So more testing def shows a much improved match against burn. Other matches i tested (all pre-sideboard games only):
Delver - Dont feel a change here. Seems just as favorable as it used to be.
Food chain - Again, feels mostly same as before. They cant deal with a chasm lock but can abrupt away the solemnity-chasm lock. Still matchup may even be slightly improved
Will be testing against D&T and eldrazi in the next week or so and will update again.
In terms of card changes, not sure I can keep my one-off manabond as i had a couple hands with manabond + e tutor in matchups where i needed to be quick and would have preferred exploration. Def miss having 0 cycling lands so I need to find a spot for that. It might just be -1 manabond, +1 sheltered thicket/tranquil.
Just a question, is there a place in the sideboard for seismic assualt? Currently i have to drop the black color, I am using black for massacre, toxic deluge and golgari charm.
Does anyone use the crucible on foot in the sideboard?

Thank you in advance.
I much prefer Molten Vortex to Seismic. The decks against which i need early removal (drs) I'd much rather have a t1 molten vortex than 3 mana seismic.
I've never played black in lands so I can't speak to that unfortunately.
The RUG versions def use crucible, often in the main. The lock with GQ/Wasteland + Academy ruins recursion makes it worth a slot.
In this Weekend I am going to play a local tournament here in Brazil, which will have approximately 80 players.
This is the list I'm thinking of using:
Maindeck:
4 x Wasteland
4 x Grove of the Burnwillows
4 x Thespian's Stage
3 x Rishadan Port
3 x Dark Depths
3 x Maze of Ith
2 x Ghost Quarter
2 x Taiga
1 x Forest
1 x Verdant Catacombs
1 x Misty Rainforest
1 x Wooded Foothils
1 x Glacial Chams
1 x Karakas
1 x The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale
1 x Barbarian Ring
1 x Tranquil Thicket
1 x Sheltered Thicket
1 x Horizon Canopy
4 x Mox Diamond
4 x Exploration
4 x Crop Rotation
4 x Gamble
4 x Life from the loam
3 x Punishing Fire
1 x Molten Vortex
1 x Mirage Mirror
Sidedeck
4 x Sphere of Resistance
1 x Thorn of Amethyst
1 x Pithing Needle
3 x Krosan Grip
1 x Ancient Grudge
1 x Kozilek's Return
2 x Tireless Tracker
1 x Bojuka Bog
1 x Ancient Tomb
Here in Brasil we have a lot of delver and death and taxes. Show and Tell and Burn always pops up to. And Miracles, Storm, Agro Loam and Elves mark your presence.
It looks like a partial changeover from classic RUG lands to the currently en vogue uRG variant. I hope he writes a recap, because I'd love to see the thought process leading up to the list.

Why is Lingering Souls starting to see play in some Lands sideboards? I get the lists usually run Bojuka Bog, Riftstone Portal, Horizon Canopy, and/or Murmuring Bosk somewhere in the list to help with the color fixing. Yet, I do not see what this is supposed to come in against.

In my area we have a few DT and XXB delver so edict effects are a plenty. This fights back against those. I dont run them myself but this may be a move I make if it gets more prominent.
**** this site. I'd delete this account but that doesn't seem to be an option. The mods here are ******* useless ********s who ban people for simple ass normal words. **** them and **** this site.
There are very few decks that can actually play it without screwing their own manabases or making wonky sacrifices so I don’t think we’ll have to worry about it too much.

I should point out that Blood Sun doesn't screw with manabases at all. This means if anyone is playing any non-basic lands at all, they're still usable if they're mana sources. ETBT, pain lands, et al, are made more desirable.

So would you play it in a normal deck with fetches? There’s no way any deck like miracles, Delver, sneak or any other URx deck would play this, especially over blood moon. Literally the only current home would be red stompy which already plays multiple moons anyways.

Fetchlands are an integral component in a lot of manabases. And Blood Sun absolutely screws them.
Would you rather play around Blood Moon that cripples all your non-basic lands or would you rather play around Blood Sun that let's you have access to your mana producing lands? Both screw with your Fetchlands, but if you're already prepared for a Moon, you know your Fetchlands are out of the picture already.

Pain lands don't get better, because the damage is part of the mana ability. eg, City Of Brass gets better, but Mana Confluence doesn't.

Oops, yes. I forgot about Confluence. I was thinking of Lands like Blood Crypt when I wrote that. My point still stands though.
