So we’ve been having our legacy league going on for some time now and I continue to try to play a different deck every event. Well I have been wanting to update my bride of young Frankenstein list from years ago to try to see if it could be improved. I managed to cut white but it just felt like reanimator in goldfishing. But then I stumbled across sedgemoor witch and I realized I could probably make an even better mono colour version now; enter sorrow’s path.
Turn 1 grave titan, scam into six power, etc have been some amazing plays so far. Dark confidant now finds a main deck slot over the old sideboard position it used to hold. Being able to get cards back is super important when you can use most of your hand on turn 1. This was even more compounded when I had unmask main as well. The aggro/reanimator sideboard plan helped me preserve life totals while pressuring even more damage. That all said the sideboard could still use some work. Not quite sure what it needs. I do think a null rod will be critical going forward though. Regardless of all that I have 1 tournament played with 1 first place with it. There’s something here. The idea is stronger now then it’s ever been.

As much as I like recurring nightmare, it feels kind of slow and takes away from the explosiveness the deck has shown me.
Lake of the dead is a “late game” plan for hard casting a fatty turn 3, so that’s fine. Cabal ritual needs threshold to have a relevant effect and it’s not like I’m storming out. Realistically I should add more spells to justify sedgemoor, but I feel it’s still respectable without needing to abuse it.
Voidweaver is graveyard hate. Opposition agent is tutor hate. I’m playing one and may put the other back in sideboard but I don’t feel it necessary.

what about culling the weak?
Between dark confidant when you run low on life, and the pests from Sedgemoor Witch and orc tokens, you should have enough sacrifice fodder.
It also can be used in response to grief triggers and is incidental protection from exile effects like swords to plowshares.

Well I just top 4’d with a mono black helm list and it has me thinking that that may be the better route over the reanimator side. It also means I can cap my curve around 4cmc which would help the castable aggro nature I am striving for. Grave titan still feels reasonable as the tokens become extra good with beseech the mirror. Scam package should probably stay. I’ll have to revisit these ideas soon.

I think cabal ritual may be better than lake of the dead since its effectively useless until turn 3.
Ashiok, Dream Render can punish fetchlands and is graveyard hate.
