Hello everyone,
since the spoiling of Vizier of Remedies I wanted to create a deck which can combo out with Devoted Druid. First I started to look in Modern, but realized quickly that in Legacy there is a much better cardpool to reliably get to our combo and that also quite fast.
So here I am, trying to put together a deck which is capable to abuse this combo to it's fullest and that really fast.
I looked into a shell like Maverick which has a quite flexible toolbox of creatures we can abuse to our advantage.
First thing is speed so acceleration in form of Elvish Spirit Guide seems like a good choice for a T1 Devoted Druid. Green Sun's Zenith is the tutor of choice to search for creatures I want to have. Even if it doesn't get Vizier of Remedies he still gets everything else we want to have. So to protect my creatures, good old Mother of Runes does her job very well and for some counterprotection we can use the new card Prowling Serpopard shutting of counterbalance as well, and Scavenging Ooze as grave hate. Also Kitchen Finks and Woodfall Primus shine with Vizier of Remedies, but we need a way to make them to full use with a sac outlet maybe Starved Rusalka, Altar of Dementia(for an alternate wincon), Carnage Altar to draw your deck or maybe Evolutionary Leap.
I am aware of the fact that Chord of calling can grab Vizier of Remedies instead of GSZ but it also is more mana intensive but it may be considered for a split with GSZ here. But we still have another tutor which grabs almost everything we want: Worldly Tutor.
This brings us to the next thing we want to do with the deck, KILL.
we have a GW shell and we have a somewhat creature toolbox and infinite G mana to use so there are quite a few options we can use here for the kill, playing fatties and swing with them to end the game looks good enough to me.
My obvious choice would be: Emrakul, the Aeons Torn
He does it all, is protected and has a timewalk if we cast it, but we can also GSZ something into play.
Also to consider is of course when we are playing a creature toolbox: Living Wish and maybe even Fierce Empath
which can grab some nasty things if we want them.
Last but not least, if we have to deal with creature's we can easily play Swords to Plowshares.
So this is a list I put together from the top of my head, feel free to critisize and give me some input to improve the deck any further.
So this means we still have some flex slots in the sideboard, and I am not quite sure with the land base, Wasteland, Cavern of Souls, Hall of the Bandit Lord, Aven Mindcensor seem quite good additions and may be considered. Choke is quite nice against control
I'm not sure if these things are too cute or really work well because I haven't tested it yet because I do not own much of the cards.
And please feel free to make suggestions and constructive criticism for improvement of the deck, also the Living Wish toolbox, is it worth the slots or can it be cut altogether, focusing on the main plan?
Greetings Heskatet

Yeah, but it's really more "Disney Evil" than practical. It's like being a bond villain and giving a monologue rather then just shooting them.
If you want to play on MTGO add me I'm HeskatetAS, playing Modern and Legacy
This deck looks pretty sweet, but there would be a few things I would tweak. With miracles gone, Prowling Serpopard loses some of his value, but in legacy, counters will always be a consideration, so it may still be relevant. Having a sac outlet is definitely nice to combo off, but a 1-of doesnt really add any consistency, so i would either look for a tutor for sac-outlets, or cut altar of dementia.
Sigarda seems iffy to me, given a lack of ramp, and that she doesnt really interact with the combo, similarly, I would remove the fierce empath package, and leave some of those targets as just for living wish. As sweet as stuff like atarka is, they detract from your gameplan.
To fill in these slots:
With GSZ, I would add dryad arbor as a possible form of ramp and has a low cost of putting it in. Similarly, rather than elvish spirit guides, I would prefer mana dorks, probably noble hierach/DRS.
In the manabase:
only 3 savannahs are really needed, and you can ensure yourself vs wasteland pretty well, given that you are only 2 colors so far. A few utility things like karakas could totally go-in, and if you really want to take a leaf from maverick, you could go full-bore and add a knight of the reliquary toolbox.
Thanks for the reply, there are some quite nice suggestions!
The mana dork could be an addition for consistency ESG is more for speed of the combo in there to have a Potential t2 kill.
Also I am not quite comfortable with the living wish package and Fierce Empath. In Modern, they play Duskwatch recruiter which does all we want in this deck. In combo turns he just fetches everything you want or he helps find Vizier of Remedies.
The creatures in my list are something like a toolbox, like sigarda, which is against pox and tutorable with GSZ Atarka is only another option because we can't tutor up Emrakul with GSZ, but with duskwatch recruiter, we may find anything we want...
As for Pridemage, my gsz target is Reclamation sage,
And renegade rallier is worse here than Eternal witness in my opinion.
What would you put into a toolbox with knight of the reliquary? Dark dephts combo maybe?

I like the sound of the deck, though I notice that you mentioned using Vizier with persist creatures. I'm pretty sure that they still have the -1/-1 counters on them, as they come into play with the counters on, not have have them put on.
And typically when people play Knight they will have Horizon Canopy, Gaeas Cradle, Karakas, Bojuka Bog, and possibly the Dark Depths Combo.

1 Scavenging Ooze
1 Prowling Serpopard
3 Living wish
1 Woodfall Primus
1 Kitchen Finks
3 Worldly Tutor
2 Sylvan Library
1 Reclamation Sage

1 Emrakul, the Aeons Torn
1 Dragonlord Atarka
1 Fierce Empath
1 Altar of Dementia
1 Sigarda Host of Herons
3 Windsweapt heath
2 Wooded Foothills
2 Marsh Flats
3 Forest
