Just curious the kind of impact you guys think the mechanic could have.
I don't believe anything with the mechanic has been spoiled that really seems like it could see serious play in the format, and of the what..10 cards we have left, I doubt any are going to be on the right power level, so this may end up being more hypothetical than anything, but I digress.
Seems it could be very strong against more control-oriented decks, stuff that just doesn't go to the red zone very often. Become the Monarch against Miracles and you've got some really solid, free card advantage that you're not really all that likely to lose (the card advantage, not necessarily the game).
I suspect that the most viable Monarch card is Throne of the High City. So far in Lands and Eldrazi, I'm hard-pressed to even pop the card (but at least both decks have bigger Wasteland targets).
Palace Jailer seems broken in Legacy, so I could imagine seeing it it in Death and Taxes.

Thought about this too. It could be good with some cheap enablers as one sided howling mine is busted see: library of alexandria. Fact that it can be taken away is iffy as it could easily determine the outcome of a game if someone becomes the monarch and stays the monarch for a large chunk of turns.

"Yawgmoth," Freyalise whispered as she set the bomb, "now you will pay for your treachery."
I'm sure it will be a sideboard thing at most. There are only a handful of decks you could play against where A) the game will go long enough that card advantage matters, and B) there isn't a huge risk of letting them take Monarch from you. Miracles is the only popular deck I can think of that matches that, and even then maybe just the non-Mentor builds. Still, if it turns out to be good against Miracles that could be enough to run one in the board.
