New to legacy, I loved Twin in Modern. I am on a budget but I have 1 of each dual land to sell minus however many of each I need, so that's not too big. Ive also got a workshop to sell so thats fun. I want to be a controllish tempo deck that can just win out of nowhere.
First off, your best bet with all of these suggestions is to proxy things up and see how you like the gameplay. You're in a pretty good spot to build something, especially if you're willing to trade/sell some of your lands to move into one thing, but switching decks on a budget is rough. I'll also point out that control and tempo decks in legacy tend to go all in on those plans rather than adding in combo kills that probably don't advance the main gameplan. They're still extremely good at those gameplans, but the wins are likely to be a little more gradual.
You have some options. The most competitive that fits the tempo into quick kill playstyle that you're after is probably RG Lands. It's more control than tempo, but still wins quickly thanks to Thespian's Stage/Dark Depths. There's a pretty good chance that's outside your budget, but maybe you love it and it's worth it. Turbo Depths has fewer control elements, but might still be appealing for similar reasons. There's also UW Helm lists, though I'm not sure if there's a recent list for reference. Play a UW control game and then kill with Rest in Peace/Helm of Obedience. Miracles is probably the most competitive deck I'll mention overall, but doesn't really fit your description because it's a hard control deck. I'm bringing it up because it frequently runs Monastery Mentor or Entreat the Angels as a win con, which might be abrupt enough for your taste. The last one I would look at is Food Chain, which combos the namesake card with Misthollow Griffin for infinite mana, then kills in one of a few ways. If you don't go for a combo kill, you still have a decent midrange gameplan, and Manipulate Fate into triple Griffin is tough for some decks to deal with.
I'm also looking for inspiration. I don't play all that often, but my go-to deck for the last couple years (pre-DRS banning) was Aluren. I don't like the deck nearly as much without DRS, so I'm looking for another deck for the occasional times I go out and play some legacy. I'm leaning towards either RG Lands, Bomberman, or Nyx Fit and can build most of the meta. Anything kind of off the beaten path that I should consider?

[Pr]Jaya | Estrid | A rotating cast of decks built out of my box.
I'm in a bit of a weird position in looking for a deck I like in legacy. You see, I don't actually know what my preferences are exactly game-play wise- I pretty much never have preferences normally in most areas of life, from video game choice to song choice to, up until now, MTG deck choice; I liked and disliked everything pretty much equally.
However in trying to play MonoBlack reanimator as a budget option for what I have with a rental service on MTGO, I find myself thinking that while I'm having fun, and legacy is definitely for me, the deck just isn't as close to what I think I'd like most as I'd hope.
The issue is, as this is the first time this has happened, I'm not positive what I am looking for. There are, however, incidental factors that make an impact;
1.) I'm extremely empathetic. This means that I'm going to hate upsetting my opponents by playing my deck, and will want to avoid it if I can. Luckily from what I can tell this isn't *usually* a problem in legacy, however MonoB reanimator seems to be an exception because of the possibility of random turn 1 wins and Hymn.
2.) I *love* personalizing and brewing. It's unlikely that I'll want to play a deck if there's little wiggle room for me to do what I want with it, or try out new things. Reanimator is good for this at least, but due to the above being a major issue it isn't enough.
3.) I prefer to be a bit of an underdog. In legacies case, this means I'll likely want to avoid majorly blue decks if I can (since that's so largely represented, and due to the popularity of brainstorm, ponder,FOW). This also means that I'll want to avoid anything too obvious in regards to a start point, which in this case basically means burn.
4.) Budget: Luckily the small streamer circle I'm in has very large evidence that suggests Cardhoarder is going too be starting up their own rental service for the public soon, I believe with legacy support at far cheaper then what the only other option (manatraders) is offering. So as far as MTGO goes budget likely won't be an issue for me. *however* I would at least like there to be a reasonable chance I could obtain a budget version of whatever deck I end up with in paper one day... so a 4000 dollar floor of a deck in paper would be a no-go :p.
Finally, since I'm still somewhat new to magic in general by about a year, and especially to combo, any complicated-to-execute decks are a no go immediately (this basically only applies to storm, but I figured I'd throw it out there anyway).
Sorry for the long post, but I figured it's better for me to be thorough with this if I can be. Thanks for any help!
if you want something simple and easy to play and is still quite competitive (and one where no one takes you that seriously), i'd suggest burn. If you don't mind learning more and really needing to deep dive some decks, you might wanna go like maverick or turbo depths (but neither of them are really 'underdogs' as such). actually, to be honest, there aren't many decks in legacy that don't require much skill to play. Even burn has a pretty significant ceiling (i'd say), even though it just looks like a pile of burn spells and small creatures (and many people tend to think of burn as an 'easy' deck to play).
Actually, pox might also be a thing, though i suspect you're going to think point 1 is problematic. possibly even mono red prison, or big red. they can be quite good, but they also require some level of being nifty with piloting.
If you REALLY want to go all-jank, i saw a build for a artificial evolution-didgeridoo pseudo-sneak attack deck that powers out eldrazi and griselbrand. it's been somewhat successful, and really confuses people sometimes.
I don't think anyone in legacy who's worth their weight in salt would put up a fuss about losing to anything. I lose all the time, even to random home brews and modern decks. Don't worry about upsetting people.

Luckily from what I can tell this isn't *usually* a problem in legacy, however MonoB reanimator seems to be an exception because of the possibility of random turn 1 wins and Hymn.
In Modern, it seemed like every deck I ever found that seemed both interesting and capable of winning also inspired blind rage from a meaningful number of people, whether it be Tron, Storm, Burn, Dredge, etc. (and other people liked Jeskai or UW, Bogles, whatever). In Legacy, the salt factor is way, way, lower.
The only decks I would worry about any meaningful salt factor are RB Reanimator, Dredge (of any type), and maybe something like Belcher or Oops All Spells. Legacy players appreciate that their decisions matter in most games, but feel that these matchups in particular often come down to the luck of the draw and are uninteresting. That said, you still should generally expect the great majority of Legacy players to respect you and your deck choice, even if they don't particularly like it.
IMO Mono Black Reanimator is probably not that likely to actually tilt anyone because it's much less all in than RB. Turn 1 Griselbrand is just a fact of life in Legacy, and that's not even plan A for Mono Black. The main question should just be, is it what you want to play now, and how does it get you to what you might want to play later?
Just a hunch, but from how you describe yourself, you sound like someone who might want to play some sort of Veteran Explorer deck, like Nic Fit, Arena Rector, and the like. Just a suggestion.
There's a big 2K legacy tournament happening at my LGS in a couple weeks and I figured it would be as good a time as ever to try to get into the format.
I am currently playing RGx AssaultLoam in modern, and would like to try to port it into AggroLoam in legacy as I have a lot of the cards for the deck, but I'm not sure if that deck is particularly well positioned or if it would be worth it to buy into the deck now or if I would be able to get the rest of the deck on a budget etc.
I have about 1,000 dollars to spend on the deck, and since I have most of the mana base - I'll probably just be playing shocklands - I'm not that worried. My friend is already letting me borrow his playset of Mox Diamond for the tournament, so I'll be set on those even though I'd like to get my own playset in time.
In summary, I have these questions: Is it worth it to buy AggroLoam now? Is there a solid decklist for the archetype since the primer on here hasn't been active for a while? Is there an alternative deck with a similar playstyle that would be better for my budget? Thanks in advance!
Might be past the tournament in question, but someone just made the top 8 of a 250 person tournament with 4C loam. You could look at that both as a starting point and as an indication that the deck has some legs.

[Pr]Jaya | Estrid | A rotating cast of decks built out of my box.
Hi everyone
I'm looking to get into legacy since I enjoy mengu's videos on channelfireball a lot and feel I don't want to build another deck in modern.
I've been playing lot's of standard on arena and like mono-blue and simic flash as well as more fringe control decks (e.g. with a mill or underworld dreams finish rather than a big creature). In modern I chose to build 8-rack and restore balance since they were fairly inexpensive to get a start in but I have had aspirations of building modern storm as well. In pauper I play inside out and playing ponder and brainstorm in paper has further drawn me towards legacy and have been considering UR delver as I just really like delver of secrets/insectile abberation. I have some ideas about what I might like in legacy but would really like some advice as I am torn between blue hard control decks (e.g. miracles), delver decks (possibly temur) and combo (e.g. storm). I put together an ad nauseam deck for modern last year but lost motivation and interest in the deck so would really like to pick the right deck for me.
Thanks for reading, and any advice.
p.s. over a long enough timescale price is not an issue, for the sake of realism my budget is around £500-1000 over about a year for putting a deck together.

Legacy - Solidarity - mono U aggro - burn - Imperial Painter - Strawberry Shortcake - Bluuzards - bom
