Coming back after not playing for a few years. This is an update of an old favorite of mine that is my take of burn in edh. This deck is a lot of fun to play and I really haven't seen anything quite like it anywhere.
As everyone should know lightning bolt is efficient in other formats but in edh 3 damage for one mana just isn't good enough. Casting an x spell to hit all of your opponents and their creatures is a much better deal IMO.
The general gameplan is to ramp up with mana doublers to end the game with a giant earthquake(or its variants) and hopefully not kill myself in the process. The old version abused Squee, goblin nabob as the general to break looter effects to actually get card draw in the worst color for card advantage. Hes still in the 99 to abuse [survival of the fittest/c] though). This was before WOTC had printed any good inpulse draw spells.
Well I've pondered over the fact that getting him to the graveyard first makes things a little too clunky. So I looked to splashing green for more card draw, some recursion as well as other options like a few extra wincons in hurricane etc.
Klothys really is the perfect general in this new build for a few reasons. He doesn't die when I have to cast an earthquake or hurricane as removal, can wear a pariah's shield without dying and he offsets the symmetry of my burn spells a little with the 4 point life swing every turn by grave hating out non lands. And in a pinch he fixes mana in a deck only splashing green in an otherwise mostly red deck.
I don't play a lot of creatures since they would tend to die to my own spells. The ones I do play I have etb effects and don't really care if they die or have indestructible. To compensate for the lack of blockers I have things like ensnaring bridge and forcefield. General's regalia, pariah's shield, glacial chasm and nova pentacle can also soak up the damage of a fireball in addition to being able to fog out an attacker.
I am looking for more options for protecting my permanents. And want to fit isochron scepter and a few more targets for it in somehow.
Right now I have some really good targets but not quite enough to justify its slot in the deck. Maybe a few fog effects?
I'm looking for any input on anything else people think thats missing from the deck, what doesn't belong or any other ways to make the deck work better.
