Hello! First time posting here, how's everyone doing?
I'm a bit conflicted on what exactly to put into my Muldrotha deck. I've spent a decent amount of funds on cards currently in the deck, as well as cards I've considered to be a good fit but ultimately unsure of their synergy. I understand that every deck is different, and it all depends on what you're trying to do with it, and how you want to play. I am relatively new to EDH, I initially purchased a Pre-con Meren deck and really enjoyed the way that deck played. I discovered Muldrotha and was very interested in his more flexible and potentially more powerful abilities, as well as the possibilities that opened up when shifting to Sultai. I'm sure most EDH decks look to win in a variety of ways and not limit itself to one combo or win condition, so that's what I've aimed for with this deck, though I worry that I'm trying to include too many different synergies. Either way, enough of my rambling, here's my decklist! I am also including other cards I've collected/purchased that I've seen in Muldrotha decks, or had in mine at one point or another.
I would like to avoid spending any more money on cards if I can help it, unless there's suggestion that would help the deck out considerably, so long as its not excessively expensive.
I appreciate any and all suggestions and thank you for taking the time to read my post! Sorry if its a lot
I'm a huge fan of a card from the Kaldheim Precon Sage of the Beyond. It has the same effect as Gravebreaker Lamia for reducing graveyard costs. Panharmonicon is also an allstar with all the etb tricks in the deck.
Take a look through my retired list. I turned my Muldrotha deck into Yarok due to the high volume of etb effects. Although my old list is missing a lot of ramp, I tried to keep it all permanents, so I could get everything back, hypothetically. It might give you some ideas. Cheers! https://deckstats.net/decks/55768/948976-muldrotha
Thanks for the tip on the deck layout, that's a lot easier on the eyes.
I was not aware of Sage of The Beyond, that would be an awesome addition to my deck, as well as Panharmonicon. Thank you very much for your suggestions! I'll have to study your deck list a bit more but my main issue is I'm never sure about what cards to cut and what to keep.
33 lands and 4 ramp cards seems to be a bit low for your deck, especially since your mana curve is rather high and you have a commander which is basically a form of mana sink.
I'd suggest to considerably lower your mana curve. Cards like the Lurking Predators which Serberus already mentioned just don't do enough for their cost. In addition to lowering the mana curve, I'd add a significant amount of ramp. You're playing green, so Birds of Paradise, Llanowar Elves, Fyndhorn Elves, Elvish Mystic and Wild Growth are pretty much auto includes - especially since you can cast them from your grave. Wayfarer's Bauble might be an option since you can recast it from your grave and you're currently not running many artifacts which you want to recast. But it's rather slow, so I'm on the fence with this one. Other artifact ramp like Arcane Signet and the Talismans are a good idea though. For the land part of the mana base, I'd suggest replacing the lands that enter tapped like Dismal Backwater or Golgari Rot Farm with any land that enters untapped. Evolving Wilds, Terramorphic Expanse and Myriad Landscape are exceptions here because of the synergy with your commander. They are playable. Ash Barrens is another budget land with a good synergy for this deck.
One card that I really miss in your list is Shriekmaw. The cheap Evoke ability goes very will with your commander, repeatable cheap removal is amazing.
For cards to cut, I'd suggest some of the high cmc cards which don't really do enough like Noxious Gearhulk, Lurking Predators, Syr Konrad and Jarad. Also cards which don't really contribute to your game plan like Azusa (when can you really make use of her with 33 lands?) or Ramunap Excavator (your commander already enables you to play lands from your grave).
Those changes should make your deck a lot faster and enable Muldrotha to generate more value every turn.
Main reason I had Diregraf Captain and Syr Konrad, the Grim in the deck was to more easily set off the infinite combo using Gravecrawler and Phyrexian Altar as well as Syr Konrad being able to ping opponents repeatedly through all the self-milling I'm doing, as least that was my thought process. I agree about Lurking Predators though I mainly put it in the deck cause it seemed fun. I haven't really played a whole lot of 4-player games and I started getting into EDH right before the pandemic hit so I haven't been able to really play-test my deck a whole lot besides the 1v1 games I've played with my room-mate who has a Yarok, The Desecrated deck as well as a Sliver Overlord deck. I have not yet picked up a Sage of the Beyond though I plan on doing that soon, as well as the ramp cards Ancalagon91 mentioned. I've added two more lands and took out some of the slower ones in place of just basics, as well as added Birds of Paradise, Llanowar Elves, and Shriekmaw in place of some of the more expensive cards such as the Lurking Predators as Noxious Gearhulk. I really appreciate you guys taking the time to give me all these great suggestions!
