I wanted to build a Jund Lands deck from the C18 decks, but after the disappointing options of one, I decided to go with my backup plan. Control the board until Vial Smasher kills everyone, Thrasios is my draw and ramp engine in one.
The challenge is to use as many basics as possible.
I've been REALLY happy with both Mind's Dilation and Sunbird's Invocation in my Vial Smasher/Thrasios list. Especially in a control version, I'd try to find room for it. Lifegift looks very cuttable, unless I'm missing some synergy, and Stolen Strategy seems replacable for either of my suggestions.

Stolen Strategy was just thrown in for funsies. I am not a fan of Mind's Dilation, it whiffs far too often for its cost, in my book. I rather go with Chaos Wand because I'm at least guaranteed something useful. I acknowledge the power of Sunbird's Invocation but I am skeptical of its use in this deck, it is very reactive. It's not like I'm going to cast something and suddenly want to hit one of many many Instants. It is something to consider, though I think Rashmi, Eternities Crafter might be more in-line of what this deck desires.
Lifegift is in the deck to fly under the radar and raise my life total. Between my Land Drops and everyone else's, it gains me a lot of life without people panicking or noticing it.
I improved my Ramp package: Kodama's and Cultivate to fetch me Basics I need and setup my next turn. Nature's Lore, Nissa's Pilgrimage and Ranger's Path just got me Forests. I also put in a Hour of Promise to fetch Alchemist's Refuge, plus maybe a Command Tower. That way have mana flexibility but also the most important land in the deck.
I cut Syphon Mind and Grim Return because I didn't find them that useful. I went with Spitting Image which will be able to take advantage of all of the Lands I'll have, plus copy all of the insanely good opponent's cards. Stolen Strategy is fun, but not game winning. If I wanted to steal something, I should go big and I did with Villainous Wealth. Coastal Breach is just another way to defend myself and dome someone for a lot of damage.
I decided to add a bit more nonbasics just to help with filtering. The Trilands that have UG, which the deck demands; Cataracts for filtering; and, Tower and City for maximized colors.
I figure Sheoldred is somehow my least threatening creature to mana cost in ratio. I don't have that many Creatures to bring back, so I am not getting full value out of her text. Seedborn Muse, combined with various Instants or Thrasios' ability is backbreaking.
When I put in Venser's Journal, I looked for the weakest life gain in the deck and Lifegift came up, got cut.
Skull Storm is silly when I have two Commanders, I want to Ramp hard and they're both lightning rods. In one game with friends, this went off 4 times against boards with less than two Creatures apiece. I am sacrificing Wave of Vitriol's mass Noncreature Removal to problems in favour of Player Removal. Probably not the best swap, but the other pieces I looked at where all Instant Speed. I rather keep the Instants and cut the Sorceries.
Decimate didn't have sufficient targets too many times, so I'm axing it for something that may find me answers but it also a lot of fun. Etali is sizable and when he swings with Vial Smasher out, I would cast the most expensive thing first.
Nezahal is more for defence and accruing enough cards that I can find answers, I am saddened by the lost of Spitting Image but I actually never wanted to Retrace it. The deck is mana starved because of how greedy VnT make me spend mana.
With Damia's dissolution, my Eldrazi got freed. Vial Smasher would love nothing more than hit people with them. Rescue from the Underworld is because I found that I actually wanted to recast my Commanders after adding Skull Storm. Kaervek would cause the table to immediately collapse on me so while I want to play with him, I had to give him the boot.
Rampant Growth is just too low impact, Mystical Tutor lets me find anything I need. I can even go full scumbag with Seasons Past loops.
I'm going to try Sunbird's Invocation after Outcryqq's suggestion, my copy got freed from my Rakdos. I axed Villainous Wealth because I never knew when to cast it. Sure, it's a no brainer if it is the only card in hand and I've got a ton of mana but I just didn't know when to fire it off.
I actually like Wave of Vitriol more than Bane of Progress. The sacrifice clause is important and it punishes greedy manabases while leaving newbies alone. That's land destruction I can get behind.
Speaking of greedy manabases, I'm adding two Shocklands so that my Skyshroud Claim actually does something. I am fine with them getting blown up later with Wave, I want the early fixing. Lastly, I am putting in Terrain Generator because it is yet another way to Ramp while holding mana up.
Multai is great but I need more ways to accelerate myself into the end game. Oracle of Mul Daya would help with this; this is a deck that wants to hit a land drop for every turn.
I axed Grim Feast because this deck doesn't actually kill that many Creatures; I usually bounce or delay them and I kill my opponents with Vial Smasher before I need to worry about them. Nissa will help me with a steady supply of lands and draw.
Polluted Bonds is far less threatening than Bloodchief Ascension and helps me gain life. On another plus side, it costs more so that enhances Vial Smasher's trigger.
There's been a lot of recursion in my meta as of late, so I've put in two Instant Speed answers that will help me with shenanigans. I think Etali has been a winmore and Illusion's Gambit is similar to Burn Away as Creature removal that doubles as Graveyard removal.
The deck is pretty mana hungry, so I don't like paying the upkeep on the Remova. People have also been shifting their builds to be more Creature centric, so there were times where people played around my Remova until I couldn't afford the Cumulative Upkeep. I've had Search for Azcanta for a while, just couldn't figure out which deck to put it in. With the amount of Instants and Sorceries, Search can help me dig for answers and threats; plus it'll help cement a Seedborn Muse lockout win.
The rest is just adding Guildgates to fetch for Circuitous Route.
After witnessing the absurdity of Genesis Storm in my Ikra and Tymna deck, I knew I needed it in this deck. I run far less permanents that it could hit; however, their abilities are absurd by comparison. Vicious Shadows is at times a clunky wincon, so I axed it in favour of Genesis Storm.
Considering the deck is always looking for mana sinks and would like something reliably difficult to remove, I felt like The Scarab God is a match made in heaven. It was difficult to figure out a cut, but I'm going with Slaughter. Some decks flat out lose to it while other decks can just ignore it with impunity; I dislike the swinginess of how good it is. I also think that The Scarab God will be able to get me solutions off of 4 mana from someone's graveyard.
I absolutely love this deck. I've been looking for a new deck to play after my group got tired of my Breya Eggs and Gitrog Monster Combo decks and this one does everything I love about Magic. Big, Swingy Spells with splashy effects and Huge, Over-Powering Creatures and getting rewarded for casting them with Vial Smasher the Fierce is great. And it's power level is just about right for my group since there are no game-ending combos or infinites. The most degenerate thing you can do here is Capsize / Forbid lock someone but since you don't have infinite mana you can do maybe 2 people tops with Primal Amulet.

I had a copy of Vial Smasher floating around and so desperately wanted to make a deck with her. Thrasios seemed like the natural pair, which is sort of unfortunate, as all of the degenerate sociopaths seem to be attracted to this Partner Pairing. I even thought of tearing the deck apart when one of them mentioned that he wanted to build this next but I've spent too much time on this.
I've heard so many complaints of Wave being an Armageddon, to which I reply stop playing super greedy mana bases, but they've appealed to better nature. I always play at a minimum 10 basics in my non-competitive decks for this very reason. In its place is a wincon, as Archfiend will stop people from gaining life outside of Smasher's range and doubles her effectiveness.
I needed more life gain, which is why I added Exquisite Blood and Grim Feast. In its place, I cut Boundless Realms because I've upped my Nonbasic count to the point where I fail to find if I resolve it. So much for the 'as many basics as possible' experiment. I also found it put a target on my back, and usually the table could tempo their way out of Archenemy. Treasure Cruise has a lot of immediate upside in comparison to Tasigur but I think he might be better for the deck. I can use his ability politically, he's as easy to cast with Delve and a 4/5 body deters random beats.
