I think this will be my last deck unless I massively upgrade my storage situation. As it currently stands, a lot of my decks are pretty good but I should move towards buying good, chase cards instead of a bunch of solid stuff.
I like the idea of Shatterbros where I have so many triggers going off that it's a rube goldberg machine of pure destruction. With the random cards I've put in it and goldfishing, I've found that I can't afford to play with high CMC cards. So it's a personal challenge of making a deck that works without a card that costs more than 5. At least, for now.
I'm also trying to use as many cross-type permanents so I always have an option to tax my opponents.
I cut Ogre Slumlord because he was the least powerful 5 drop in the deck at the time. Mazirek, who replaced him, definitely becomes a scary threat in this deck where Shattergang and Mazirek become huge beaters that can begin blocking or attacking troublesome Creatures.
Endless Cockroaches felt like too much mana of an investment to play. Oviya, in comparison, can make X/Xs which can close out games or just 1/1s - both of which are Artifact Creatures. This makes them perfect sacrifice fodder for Shattergang, but what's nice is it lets me make decisions. I can spend mana to create or sacrifice, unlike the Cockroaches which lock me into a particular decision.
I cut Burnished Hart because I just didn't have time for to cast and Activate it, I got Reclamation Sage because sometimes I would need help dealing with a particular permanent my opponents weren't sacrificing.
Burgeoning should've been great in theory. Throw extra lands into play and then sacrifice it when it no longer did anything, but it felt dead most of the time. I cut it for more acceleration that I can sacrifice if I need to with Fertile Ground.
I love Dark Prophecy, I've put it in a lot of decks because it's so great. Unfortunately, I couldn't afford to cast it in this deck. I would need black mana open to make my opponents sacrifice creatures and Prophecy asked for triple black. Instead, I went with something where I can safely sacrifice and draw cards.
I like Nezumi Graverobber but it feels like a huge mana sink. I need more ways to stave off beats and win the game, Blood Artist costed the same as the Graverobber and so I swapped them.
I added Matter Reshaper because it advances my board when it dies, unlike Scrap Trawler which puts an Artifact into my hand. The thing is, I very rarely actually had an Artifact in my yard that cost less than something sacrificed. The Trawler, while looking better than my other recursive Artifact Creatures, did worse than both of them.
I like Smothering Abomination in theory, in actuality it is always putting me in awkward positions on what to sacrifice. Hell's Caretaker won't give me raw draw power but in theory should give me a lot of really good selection. I can easily begin looping ETB wincons or just value creatures.
Trading Post felt very mana intensive and like Smothering Abomination, it attacked the same resources the Shatterbros need. I cut it for something Pia and Kiran who give me three bodies, two which can block pesky flyers and they're Artifact Creatures for more removal.
With the addition of Matter Reshaper, I wanted more colorless sources so Forest got cut for a Karplusan Forest.
Skirsdag High Priest requires a lot more hoops to jump through than Dragonmaster Outcast. I do think Skirsdag might make a return for how efficient of a body it is and its potential, but right now I need the list to be lean and mean.
I found I rather recur my Creatures than draw a random card, so Reclamation goes in for the Rites.
I was aiming for just 5 or less drops, but once I feed Mikaeus from my Marchesa, the Black Rose deck I felt like he was a slam dunk in this deck. Unlike Dark Prophecy's triple black, I am fine with windmill slamming him onto the board. If they wrath, I get most of my board back. Also, he doubles the value of my sac outlets.
There just seems to be a lot of moving parts for that sort of thing and while it might be a great value engine, I don't want to go down that route. Most of the artifacts I would make seem like mana rocks or tokens, not something that would be really great with Glissa to recycle. Daretti then makes said tokens or can use pin point removal, which has been a problem.
After trying to make Shatterbros work, and doing more research, I came to an unfortunate conclusion. The deck only works if it is ahead. This means the only time Shatterbros are successful is if they're doing a pubstomp. I am not interested in playing that sort of game. I have divided my decks into tiers so that I can try to play the right game with the right people. If someone wants to play balls to the walls, I got my competitive decks that allow me to do so. If we want to play what I considering regular EDH, I have a bunch of decks that do that. And if we just want to dick around and not really interfere with each other by playing silly stuff, perfect against new players, I can do that too.
Unfortunately, Shatterbros can't fit anywhere in the pantheon so I have disassembled them. They were the most interesting Jund Commander in my eyes, so I am disappointed that I had to axe them.
