I'm with you. I'd prefer anything that would work for the archetype and really define it. That's my dream, like a Mardu, naya, jund, and a 5 color commander that are designed specifically for this archetype. But each significantly unique to the color combination as all of them have their pros and cons. I would love naya, but it lacks a killcon like Gitrog that can be assembled naturally, while also lacking black's tutors. (White's tutors are more narrow) However I still want to do a Naya lands deck to take advantage of Astral Slide and other really niche cards in EDH.
I was missing Genesis in games where my key creatures got removed prior to comboing or mid combo. Safekeeper was there to protect my creatures, but never was needed or appeared when I didnt need him. He's better as one of the 99 with Gitrog as the helm.
I had it in the initial build but found it's just too slow unless you focus on tokens and haste enablers. On average I'd hit 3-8 worms per casting and by the time you get to the point to start making the worms, they're too low impact. In a deck with Cathar's Crusade / Beastmaster's Ascension and other token enablers, it would be worthwhile.
Garruk runs into the same issue as most walkers in EDH: If he doesnt have a huge immediate impact, he will be removed and not be worth his mana cost. Here, we rarely have blockers up to protect him, and even then, our new ramp options like Lotus Cobra have done what he does, but better, and at less risk. I've always wanted to try out Realm Seekers as a way to tutor up combo pieces like Dakmor Salvage or Valakut
Hydra replaces sage as I'm good in my meta on hate cards. Usually dont need as many. Hydra I want to try as a way to more quickly get my combos online as well as providing a relevant body to block with. Temple of the False God comes in to replace Kessing as Kessing rarely was impactful. Temple just gives us lots of manas.
All, I have disassembled this deck. I'm sad to say it, but it got boring with how slow the combos were to assemble. While there is plenty of optimization one could do from where I left it, I decided to scrap it for mono G Titania. I've been on a monocolor deck lately.
I think if you wanted you could speed your list up. My deck often wins by drawing a ton of lands either from the graveyard with Creeping Renaissance or from my deck with Ad Nauseam then droping them all into play at once with Manabond or chucking them to Seismic Assault.

damn! that is a very cool list. Yeah i think for me i burnt myself out on trying to make the wincons i had work. obviously scapeshift->valakut as a priority was a bad choice. your list is really, really cool. I may revisit in the futute.
Crux was a budget choice, since I can't afford Damnation. And yea scapeshift->valakut should be one win con, but for me scapeshift -> Ob Nixilis, the Fallen also hits hard, or scapeshift -> Retreat to Hagra.

Oh for sure I getcha. I was running ideas for this list through my head again lately, wondering if a group slug-esque subtheme would help you get folks into kill range faster.
Looks like Commander 2018 is going to deliver the Jund Lands commander we've all been waiting for, and this primer looks to be ahead of the game. Any revival/update plans?

I love Lands and have been working with the archetype since Borborygmos.
With a RG base I had to add Black for Gitrog. Xira was actually my first choice as well. Hover I have since migrated to 4c without Blue.
Tana Tymna blew their load all over Dune-Brood Nephilim as you still have the tokens and Tymna's draw.
Anyway thought I'd see if you were still on Lands.dec and what you have been playing as of late.
