Generally happy with the upgrades, although some are a little controversial I guess. Mike coming in should be great, and replaces some of the reanimation that I lose with Lili. She was always a target hitting the field. Gisa didn't ever really have huge creatures to sac, so was a little redundant, as good as she is. Raving dead was a one trick pony and goes for some much better tribal options.
Library is a cool card that just doesn't really do much. Limitless hand size is nice, but the discard really isn't relevant, ever. The monument is a win con, pure and simple. And it's a sac outlet so that I can get multiple recast value from things like Gray Merchant of Asphodel and Noxious Ghoul. The Grimoire is cute, but way too slow. Buried Alive fills much the same function in terms of enabling reanimation, but is a lot more clinical and a tad quicker. Secrets I've found not really doing a ton, and Skullclamp is excellent draw, especially in a deck with some sacrifice outlets.
Got a couple of masters packs for my bday over the weekend. Didn't get anything amazing, but a foil Thran Dynamo came through for me. Seems a good place to put it.

Sadly, I've finally decided to retire G&G as commanders. Varina, Lich Queen puts forward a very strong case for Esper zombies with some aggro and control, and I've picked up the precon to give it a whirl. Most of what's here will port over well.

The End
I still think there are valid reasons to play G&G over Varina but if your goal is to play all the zombies then yes, I think you are correct that Varina is going to be better. G&G give you repeated access to the same zombies so if you want to be less all in tribal and or push for ETB / Death triggers for "the good zombies" I think there is a valid reason to play G&G. When I was playing G&G I was only playing with something like 12 zombies I want to say and that was because my goal was not to play zombie anthems and go wide with the tribe but instead play a mill control deck with the strong standalone zombies.
Given what your list was though, I agree in the move. I just thought I would give my $0.02 on the matter in that I think G&G is still viable when comparing to Varina, Lich Queen, I think you just need a different style than swarm with tribe as how it plays out.

I have officially moved to MTGNexus. I just wanted to let people know as my response time to salvation decks being bumped is very hit or miss.
Yeah, totally. They have a place as a decent zombie commander. I'm not sure how Varina will work out, but given what I was trying to do here, I'm probably happier to run Esper. This deck never really did what I wanted it to, so fingers crossed for the change.
