MTG Salvation

Mizzix is perhaps the best Goblin Wizard in existence and as i happened to pick up his deck i have decided to do some customizing. Most people are going toward some kind of storm deck which suites Mizzix well. I have decided to go an other way looking to fire off huge X spell after huge X spell. The way Mizzix is set up is you'll keep getting experience as you X it up.

The biggest threat to this deck is Mizzix getting messed up so i have Misdirection and some other cheap X counters that hopefully protects it. An other issue is you can be tight on colored mana and typically you'll need to cast many X spells over several turns to win a game. That is why i have diamonds as opposed to medallions.

Creatures are light as you want to beef the counters but each one feeds into your strategy.

Anyway this is an ongoing so i'll keep this active and am open to suggestions.

Is Spinerock Knoll worth it with so many X spells? Halimar Depths, Sand Silos, Saprazzan Cove, Dwarven Hold, or Mercadian Bazaar might all make stronger options.

You may need more protection of Mizzix, I would think.

Riptide Laboratory is a good call, i think i have one kicking around as well.
Cyclonic Rift - Banned in my group for being Cyclonic Rift.
Past in Flames - I'll have to track one down.

The Knoll is pretty poor and i'll probably swap it out.

Rules question: how does Epic Experiment work with Mizzix and your X-spells?
- Example: let's say you cast Experiment for 3UR, exiling Ghitu Fire, Comet Storm, and Fanning the Flames.
- What happens if you try to cast each of these spells?

From what i understand the X would = zero in these cases. So it isn't ideal but i am still testing it out.

Too bad rosheen meanderer is off-color.

You might want some more mana rocks to help churn out bigger X spells. Stuff like thran dynamo, gilded lotus, basalt monolith, grim monolith and mana vault could help ramp you up.

I don't think ertai's meddling or power sink are worth playing in EDH. If you absolutely must, condescend is better.

I doubt titan's revenge will come back too often, since most of your spells have CMC 1-3 (you could always hope they hit a land I guess). Dominate is very meh.

Lastly, reiterate is pretty much mandatory for Mizzix.

Inexorable Tide and all other proliferate effects are a waste of space in Mizzix. She gains you counters by just doing what you want to do anyway. Also, you really only need 3 before she becomes scary.

Clever Impersonator and Phyrexian Metamorph should be in every blue deck.

Snap is good removal, a ritual with 1 counter and a great way to get to 2 counters.

Mystical Tutor and Merchant Scroll are almost must plays.

You need to try to get your hands on a Time Spiral. Stupid good without Mizzix. Broken if you have 3 or more counters. Same can be said for Recurring Insight. Wheel of Fortune over Faithless Looting if possible as well.

Alhammarret's Archive to increase your draw power. Spend half as much on X to draw the same cards.

Capsize, Turnabout and Reiterate are pretty much must plays in Izzet anyway but Capsize and Reiterate are made even better by Mizzix. Mizzix also drastically reduces the mana threshold at which Turnabout/Reiterate produces unlimited mana.
