Bloodmist Infiltrator - Could be an interesting addition to the Budget Build if cheap enough. Not only does it have a free sacrifice outlet, but if it has enough +1/+1 counters on it, it can be quite the unblockable beater.
Priest of Forgotten Gods - This card has the potential to be amazing. If I'm playing 2HG I have the option of not hurting my teammate. And not just 2HG, it's very political in that I can choose which opponents lose life and a creature. So it has the potential to be better than cards like Fleshbag Marauder which doesn't disciminate. The sacrifice outlet doesn't require mana (even though it needs to tap) but I get BB for my troubles. This card on its own could provide many sacrifice triggers for Mazirek. Definitely worth testing.
Undercity Scavenger - This seems like a great addition for the Budget Build. It has a decent body, a sacrifice trigger when entering the battlefield, it gets +1/+1 counters and it scries. So it's basically a 5/5 for 3B with scry 2 when ETB and a 6/6 with Mazirek in play.
Biogenic Ooze - This creature is interesting in that it's a great mana sink for creating more tokens. It also adds a +1/+1 to all my ooze creatures. More creature tokens means more sacrifice fodder. It's not an auto-include but I might test it to see.
Biogenic Upgrade - Doubling the amount of +1/+1 counters on a creature in this deck is no joke. If this card is cheap it's definitely going in the Budget Build.
Incubation Druid - This mana dork would be great here. Not on the same level as Gyre Sage, but giving BBB, GGG, or. . for a mere +1/+1 counter is still great in this deck.
Wilderness Reclamation - The deck doesn't really use mana on opponent's turns so I don't really need to have mana available. That being said, I could definitely see the potential for this card if anyone were to want to run it as a poor man's Seedborn Muse.
The Haunt of Hightower - This card has the potential to get huge in this deck. It costs 4BB which isn't beyond reasonable in a deck that runs Cabal Coffers and/or Gaea's Cradle. It has flying and lifelink which are great together on a creature that can become absurdly large. With all the sacrifices happening all over the board, it's gonna get a +1/+1 counter from its own ability plus Mazirek. If it's not blocked it's gonna do a lot of damage. If it is blocked, I just got rid of a flyer and it got a +1/+1 counter on it for its trouble. Without a flyer in play, it can swing alongside Mazirek and do so much damage that not even FlexTape can fix it. Definitely worth considering. If it becomes cheap like Firesong and Sunspeaker, I might consider it for the Budget Version.

As for the creatures with Afterlife N, there are many creatures throughout Magic's history that create tokens upon dying, so that concept is nothing new. None of those with the named "mechanic" of Afterlife N really impact enough to warrant my attention.
My YouTube Channel: The Commander Tavern - a channel I just started where I'll post deck techs and gameplays. Please support by checking it out. Maybe you'll like its content and subscribe! Thanks!
Evolution Sage - A good body for its casting cost, with all the fetches landfall triggers can get really out of hand. Being able to proliferate +1/+1 counters each time is definitely something to consider.
Finale of Devastation - Not only does it work as a tutor but a reanimate as well. Not only that, but it's not uncommon to easily produce 12 mana with this deck. I can tutor or resurrect a key creature (maybe Craterhoof Behemoth) and then give my horde +10/+10. Definitely worth considering.
Mowu, Loyal Companion - If it's cheap enough it could go in the Budget Build. This basically receives double the +1/+1 counters from Mazirek. Plus is has vigilance and trample which means the damage could get through and still be able to block next turns.
Planewide Celebration - I could create tokens to have more bodies for counters, recover a permanent from the graveyard, or proliferate (the life gain isn't really that big of a deal). However, for 7 mana I could potentially create 4 2/2's or proliferate 4 times. Definitely worth the consideration.
Storm the Citadel - I like that it pumps my creatures and gives me the potential of destroying a considerable amount of artifacts and/or enchantments.
Karn's Bastion - A proliferate ability on a land? Sign me up!
Finale of Eternity - This deck can produce 12 mana fairly easily so being able to destroy up to 3 creatures and then reanimate my entire graveyard is nothing scoff at.
God-Eternal Bontu - The sacrifice triggers thanks to this is crazy. Not only that, but you're going to be able to potentially draw a ton of cards, too.
Kaya's Ghostform - Excellent and cheap way to protect Mazirek. Definitely going in the Budget Build.
Liliana, Dreadhorde General - One of the actual planeswalkers of the set. Her static ability is bonkers for this deck. She also creates tokens to have bodies to put +1/+1 counters on. The \-4/ ability triggers a crazy amount of Mazirek triggers. The ultimate pretty much does the same but on a higher level.
Liliana's Triumph - Higher-costed than Innocent Blood but at lest you don't have to sacrifice a creature. Having a Liliana planeswalker makes it better but it's still good even if your don't.

I've tested Devoted Druid in my Mazerik Deck and I really like it, it makes so much mana in a deck like this.
Welcome to the forums!
Yeah, I can image so. At times it might even seem better than Gyre Sage since it can tap for G well before Gyre Sage does. However, when compared to the latter, Devoted Druid can only make a blowout amount of mana once. Gyre Sage can always make G for as many +1/+1 counters as it has on it. Devoted Druid would have to basically remove a +1/+1 counter on it for each G it adds to the mana pool.

These changes were made because Karn's Bastion is a land that proliferates which goes great with this deck and the amount of mana I can generate. And this can be done at the end of the turn before mine. Throne of the High City wasn't performing as well as I would like. I was playing a game some time ago against Prossh, Skyraider of Kher and Jenara, Asura of War. I wasn't able to get Mazirek through to get the insta-kill on either opponent because they had flying blockers for days. Having Prossh be recast from the command zone is something you don't want and Jenara was huge. So it was a stalemate with everyone topdecking. Jenara topdecked a Cyclonic Rift and won the game. The whole time I was wishing I had Rogue's Passage in order to get Mazirek through. So I swapped it in for Throne of the High City. Llanowar Wastes was just for more color fixing.
The creatures:
The deck used to run a lot more avenues of token production. Not so much. Smothering Abomination was becoming more cumbersome as my creatures weren't ones I wanted to lose yet. Fortunately, Liliana, Dreadhorde General's static ability is a better version of Smothering Abomination's so the swap was natural. I cut Viscera Seer under the same logic of not having enough sacrifice fodder for it. I'm already running enough cards that want me to sacrifice creatures so I have enough sacrifice outlets. So I added Turntimber Sower which has great synergy with the deck and produces some much needed tokens. Corpsejack Menace is a great card for getting my creatures bigger faster but apart from that and having a solid body for its casting cost, it doesn't really do much else. Evolution Sage also technically gets +1/+1 counters on my creatures but it can also give my planeswalkers loyalty counters while also giving me experience counters. It also costs B less compared to Corpsejack Menace. Priest of Forgotten Gods was added to see if it's as good as it is in theory. It has synergy for sacrifice and I get BB for my troubles, as well - and a card draw if I don't have any of my card drawing engines in play.
The spells:
Innocent Blood is amazing because it's cheap and it hits everyone. But Liliana's Triumph is instant speed and doesn't hit me. All with the caveat of simply costing 1 more. For what it does it's well worth the additional cost. As mentioned earlier, the deck has strayed farther from more consistent token production so Eliminate the Competition wound up sitting in my hand and being a dead draw more often than not. I'm already pretty much clearing the table with global sacrifice effects. Also, the card costs 5 mana and it's not even as efficient as Damnation. It worked wonders for pumping whatever creatures I had left along with Mazirek but at the end of the day, better cards have been released in recent sets that I've been wanting to test out.

Putrid Goblin Cheap to cast and probably very cheap to acquire as well. Definitely a viable budget option to make an infinite engine of death thanks to it having persist.
Lesser Masticore - Cheap to cast creature with persist. Not only can it go infinite with Mazirek along the lines as the other persist creatures, but it has a relevant ping ability built in, should the need for it arise.
Yawgmoth, Thran Physician - Surprisingly not as broken as Urza considering Yawgmoth became a more powerful being later on, it has a manaless sacrifice outlet, which is crucial. This ability can potentially kill creatures (even those with indestructible) as well as drawing cards. Additionally, it has a built-in proliferate ability that can be reused since it doesn't require tapping. With all these relevant abilities it's definitely worth finding a slot for.
Talisman of Resilience - Finally the talisman cycle has been completed and enemy-colored decks can slowly get more mana consistency as allied-colored decks. Now if only Wizards would do this faster with the lands we'd get somewhere. I don't know why WotC didn't complete a lot of the land cycles in the enemy-colored commander products that year. Would it have been so warping towards Legacy and Vintage to finish the cycle of Odyssey filter lands? Or other such cycles? At least one or two a year amongst products?
Prismatic Vista - Definitely going in. This one will search for a basic forest or basic swamp which makes it worse than Verdant Catacombs but better than the other fetches (in this deck at least).
Nurturing Peatland - The black/green horizon land. Definitely going in. Once I'm mana flooded, I can crack it for a draw and a Mazirek trigger.
My YouTube Channel: The Commander Tavern - a channel I just started where I'll post deck techs and gameplays. Please support by checking it out. Maybe you'll like its content and subscribe! Thanks!
Vraska wasn't performing as I thought she would. She was honestly kind of underwhelming in the deck. I needed a slot to test out Yawgmoth and she fulfilled it. The swap in the land was a given since fetchlands are crazy in this kind of deck. Priest of Forgotten Gods was just clunky. I needed 2 creatures I didn't mind sacrificing in order to get a sacrificed creature from each opponent, BB, and a draw. Many times I didn't have 2 creatures I was willing to lose. That's one reason I swapped out Innocent Blood for Liliana's Triumph. Casualties of War is great in multiplayer. It has the same philosophy as Decimate but you can cast it without worrying about legal targets. At best you get 5 targets but if you need to get rid of a couple of things you can still do so.
Hopefully these changes are for the best and I can find a slot for Nurturing Peatland.

Was able to do some more testing in triple-threat matches and I'm very pleased with the recent changes. The deck has been performing more optimally than before. Here's a summary of the changes. Hopefully soon I will update the Primer lists with these changes.
My YouTube Channel: The Commander Tavern - a channel I just started where I'll post deck techs and gameplays. Please support by checking it out. Maybe you'll like its content and subscribe! Thanks!
Dread Presence - A solid body with a good landfall trigger. Sure, it's when a swamp enters the battlefield under our control but with Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth out all our lands are swamps. The deck doesn't go too deep into the landfall theme and it's hard to find slots in the deck. But this card is definitely worth looking into.
Legion's End - Great against token decks. I don't know if it'll fit here or not, though.
Thought Distortion - Great against decks that draw a ton of cards. However, it's a bit narrow for the deck.
Lotus Field - A Lotus Vale that trades hexproof for entering the battlefield tapped. This land just as its predecessor triggers Mazirek all while providing triple mana.
Cryptic Caves - Similar to the horizon lands in that you can pay 1 to sacrifice it and tap it to draw a card. However, you need 5 lands in play to do so. I'm not too sold on it.

I tried to follow your changelog in the comments from the beginning but it was difficult.
I made a version of the deck but I feel like it's missing something. I was hoping to compare it to your build.
Thanks so much for making this. It's one of my favorite decks so far!!
Thanks! I'm glad this Primer has been helpful to you!
The list isn't up to date. However, it's not by much. The only update I'm missing to do is this one. All you have to do is look at the list and image these changes; you don't have to sift through all 15 pages of discussion. Don't worry; I'm gonna update it soon enough when I have a bit more time. There's great civil unrest where I live and it's been a tad difficult this past week.

It would seem my budget lists are suffering over time much like Commander's Quarters are. 3 years ago my Budget Version was less than $30 and now it's $88 (without having made any changes). Commander's popularity has made even budget alternatives spike in price (in comparison). The same thing happened to my Budget Version of Sidisi, Brood Tyrant; it included Cyclonic Rift when it was still under $2. I might have to try and challenge myself to make budget lists that are at least no more than $50. Otherwise, I might have to scrap budget versions altogether. I was going to make just slight changes to the Budget Version but now I might have to revamp the entire build just to bring it down.
The rest of the Primer has been updated with the latest changes. I will notify later on when I eventually update the Budget Build.
EDIT:
Alright, I managed to make some quick changes to see and now all that's left is to test it a bit to see if they're viable changes. I'm pretty confident since I added some strong cards that synergize well; the deck's gonna be a bit more combo than earlier. Here're the changes I'm testing, which reduced the total cost of the deck (excluding basics) to approximately $48 (including Mazirek in the price).
The changes are not a 1-for-1 as seen in the list. I simply removed all the cards that cost more than $2 and then added some cards I have been eyeing for the deck that cost almost nothing. The last two lands I removed because it gave me more wiggle-room as far as money goes.

Just posted a video on my channel showcasing the Budget Build found in the Primer. The video explains the ins and outs of that version while also explaining the various wincons. It goes over each card but it gets more detailed when discussing Mazirek's interaction with the stack. If you're interested in seeing a video version of the budget section of this deck, you can find it here.

Mire in Misery - Definitely going in. It only costs 2 and it only hits opponents. It can also make sure they sacrifice an enchantment in case they've already lost their creatures.
My YouTube Channel: The Commander Tavern - a channel I just started where I'll post deck techs and gameplays. Please support by checking it out. Maybe you'll like its content and subscribe! Thanks!
Chittering Witch - For just 4 mana she's potentially 4 bodies. She also has a sacrifice that can potentially get rid of creatures. Unfortunately, it's not a free sacrifice outlet which is ultimately the deal breaker.
Taste of Death - A bit overcosted at 6 mana, it's essentially 3 Innocent Blood stapled onto the same sorcery. It does have the benefit of giving us 3 food tokens, which are tokens with a built-in sacrifice ability. Even considering the steep cost it's a card I would consider since it would provide me with the potential for 15 sacrifice triggers (up to 12 creatures being sacrificed and then 3 food that can be sacrificed afterwards).
The Cauldron of Eternity - Since the deck does sacrifice a bunch of creatures, it's very probable that this spell will cost BB most of the time. Then, when our creatures die, they just go to the bottom of the library. But, what's important for this deck is its reanimation ability. This allows use to reanimate any creatures from our graveyard before it entered the battlefield.
Steelbane Hydra - With all the +1/+1 counters going around, it's nice to know that this creature will always be able to destroy any pesky artifacts or enchantments on the battlefield - or any mana rocks opponents might have.
Witch's Oven - It costs no mana to activate and only 1 to cast. It might be useful as a sacrifice outlet since sacrificing a large enough creature can get you 2 food tokens.
My YouTube Channel: The Commander Tavern - a channel I just started where I'll post deck techs and gameplays. Please support by checking it out. Maybe you'll like its content and subscribe! Thanks!
Grismold, the Dreadsower seems like a good card since it gives opponents sacrifice fodder which in the end can benefit me since it always gives them something to sacrifice. On the other hand, it always gives them something to sacrifice. So they won't sacrifice any of their creatures if they can sacrifice a 1/1 token instead. It is an amazing card but I would sooner build a deck with it as a commander than include it in my Mazirek deck. I speak in greater detail about Grismold in this video, if you're interested on seeing what else it can do.
Garruk, Cursed Huntsman is an amazing card but I feel like it might be too slow for this deck. The abilities are great but I don't feel they're as impacting in the deck as they seem at first glance. He makes tokens which are great sacrifice fodder that also boost his loyalty. His emblem is relevant since it gives all my creatures +3/+3 and trample. His second ability straight up murders a creature and we draw a card. Unfortunately, he costs 6 to cast and doesn't synergize all that much with the deck. If I played Oathbreaker though, I would definitely build a Garruk tribal with him at the helm.

If it's just strictly between those two, Innocent Blood. You get one more target and it only costs 1 mana. However, Mire in Misery doesn't hurt you. There's two different things to weigh. At the end of the day, I dropped Innocent Blood because there comes a point where I'm keeping opponents' boards clear of creatures. When Mire in Misery came out I added it because it takes cares of more things and 1 more mana in the cost is negligible at that point.
My YouTube Channel: The Commander Tavern - a channel I just started where I'll post deck techs and gameplays. Please support by checking it out. Maybe you'll like its content and subscribe! Thanks!
Erebos, Bleak-Hearted - This version of Erebos has a non-free sacrifice outlet that lets you give a creature -2/-1. However, the most important thing is being able to just pay 2 life whenever a creature you control dies in order to draw a card. He's also indestructible which is great.
Inevitable End - This enchantment is great! Either it forces an opponent to sacrifice the enchanted creature, which bypasses indestructible. Or, they have to sacrifice another creature in order to keep alive the enchanted one. Either way it's win/win for Mazirek.
Pharika's Libation - I only run global edicts so I'll really pass on this one. It also costs 1 more than most edicts anyways.
Soulreaper of Mogis - A creature with this ability isn't bad, but I feel like the ability is a bit overcosted.
Hydra's Growth - Great for the Budget Version of Mazirek since it feels a bit winmore in the normal version. You're already putting a bunch of +1/+1 counters on Mazirek. Auras are fragile and this one is on a trigger instead of activation.
The First Iroan Games - Gives you sacrifice fodder, more +1/+1 counters for your creatures, you'll get to draw 2 cards, and then you create a gold token which is something that sacrifices itself. As a bonus, the saga is sacrificed afterwards so that also triggers Mazirek.
Polukranos, Unchained - This version of Polukranos is better at sniping creatures than Polukranos, World Eater. Consistently adding +1/+1 counters to our creatures means that it might stick around to kill off multiple creatures when left unaddressed.
My YouTube Channel: The Commander Tavern - a channel I just started where I'll post deck techs and gameplays. Please support by checking it out. Maybe you'll like its content and subscribe! Thanks!
Renata, Called to the Hunt isn't great but it's the first version of this effect we've gotten in Mazirek's color identity so I'd argue it's worth considering in more token-centric builds.
Renata, Called to the Hunt isn't great but it's the first version of this effect we've gotten in Mazirek's color identity so I'd argue it's worth considering in more token-centric builds.
Nightmare Shepherd exiles creatures which is not something I want. I see it used in decks where you can populate or do other things with tokens.
Arasta of the Endless Web is way too situational. There are way better cards for token creation for this deck than Arasta.
Renata, Called to the Hunt is good since creatures will enter the battlefield with a +1/+1 counter on it. However, is she good enough to take something out of the deck for her? I don't really think so.
My YouTube Channel: The Commander Tavern - a channel I just started where I'll post deck techs and gameplays. Please support by checking it out. Maybe you'll like its content and subscribe! Thanks!
Nikara, Lair Scavenger - Another way to draw cards off of creatures dying. Granted, they have to have had a counter on them which is no problem in this deck. We lose 1 life each time but that might be negligible in some cases.
Cazur, Ruthless Stalker - Cazur gives a +1/+1 counter to any creature dealing combat damage to a player. This is just another way for creatures to get +1/+1 counters in the deck.
Slippery Bogbonder - Is crazy broken in this deck. It gives Mazirek hexproof and then it takes all counters and puts them on it. So Mazirek will get all those +1/+1 counters it's been giving to other creatures. And then it becomes very difficult to get rid of.

Bankrupt in Blood is good but if you notice I also don't run cards like Altar's Reap, Blood Divination, Life's Legacy, Merciless Resolve, Momentous Fall, nor Skulltap, etc.; I would much rather have continuous effects of sacrificing and drawing cards than by a single spell. For those who like these kinds of spells with Mazirek, go for it.

The changes are not a 1-for-1 as seen in the list. I simply removed all the cards that cost more than $2 and then added some cards I have been eyeing for the deck that cost almost nothing. The last two lands I removed because it gave me more wiggle-room as far as money goes.
