Fraying Omnipotence - Similar to spells like Pox and Death Cloud. Definitely worth considering if you like running the aforementioned cards.
Open the Graves - Definitely worth considering since you can get a body to replace whatever nontoken creature died. So when you sacrifice cards like Caustic Caterpillar and the like, you get a 2/2 zombie in its place. If someone were to wrath, you can also replace your nontoken creatures with a 2/2 zombie, too.

As for the Budget Build, I have to revise the decklist because after a year, the deck has doubled in price. Some cards that were much cheaper are now almost $2 with some reaching surpassing $6. Almost $60 is still budget to some but not to me. I want it to be even cheaper. I'll have to reevaluate the deck as far as pricing goes.

Sorry for the delay; here's my review for Commander 2018:
Skull Storm - Too expensive for what it does. Mazirek itself is a very hard to cast commander at 5 CMC. To make this spell worth your while, you'd have to at least cast Mazirek maybe 3 times in a match, meaning that the 3rd time it'd have to have been cast for a total of 9 CMC. That's potentially okay since Skull Storm also costs 9. However, in doing so, you're spending 9 mana to have opponents sacrifice 3 creatures at most. And even then, if they don't have any creatures they'd just be losing half their life rounded up. You're much better off running Barter in Blood, which costs less than half and hits 2 creatures for every player. This card is much better served in decks like Skullbriar, the Walking Grave.
Genesis Storm - Too expensive for what it does considering how expensive Mazirek is to cast. Additionally, we don't any similar effects to begin with. I see this card more at home in decks like Rhys, the Redeemed and other cheap to cast commanders.
Loyal Guardian - Too slow in terms of distributing +1/+1 counters (as far as this deck is concerned). This lieutenant is better suited for decks like Atraxa, Praetors' Voice.
Ravenous Slime - Not only does this creature pump itself with +1/+1 counters when opponents' creatures die, but it makes sure they're exiled when dying. Definitely worth considering for that aspect alone.
Turntimber Sower - Definitely worth testing. With all the fetchlands and lands like Strip Mine and Wasteland, the amount of tokens produced is significant. Additionally, it has a built-in sacrifice outlet which also returns lands to the battlefield. Both abilities are relevent on a great body (3/3 for 3) and it has relevant creature types if you want to have a tribal subtheme.
Windgrace's Judgment - Excellent removal spell albeit maybe not an autoinclude in this deck.
Entreat the Dead - A great reanimator spell that's very feasible given all the mana that the deck is capable of producing. Miracle-ing this card when your graveyard is full of creatures is just icing on the cake.

Thanks DementedKirby. I agree with all that you have said here. I picked up a copy of each in the list excluding Genesis Storm and Loyal Guardian (Skull Storm for the art over it's suitability with Mazirek).
I wasn't overly impressed by the C18 offerings and cherry picked a few more cards from the set as opposed to purchasing any of the decks. The only commander that slightly interested me was Aminatou, the Fateshifter, but not enough to buy and invest in upgrades.
I'm definitely going to give Turntimber Sower a chance, not sure what I'll cut yet....
I've used your list for inspiration in the past -- so thank you for all the work you've put into this primer! I've built a somewhat different Mazirek list than yours, but had a crazy game yesterday, where an opponent played Rite of the Raging Storm which essentially won me the game. I'm curious if anyone knows of a similar card in Black/Green. A card that creates something for an opponent which then requires them to sac it at end of turn. I kinda doubt it, or it would already be in everyone's Mazirek lists, but figured it was worth asking.

Thanks! If you want to have more options to Mazirek, you can build a BRG deck around stax using Shattergang Brothers while keeping Mazirek in the 99. However, since I hardly ran any red cards then I just left Mazirek at the helm.

Yeah, I don't want to change the commander, I love Mazirek too much -- he fuels the entire deck. I can't imagine any similar functionality to Rite of the Raging Storm in black/green, but I figured it was worth asking. A card like Tombstone Stairwell almost fits the bill, but it's lacking the sacrifice clause, which is the most important component for Mazirek.

Either way, cards like Sheoldred, Whispering One have opponents sacrifice a creature during their upkeep. Or a card like Smokestack which makes them sacrifice any permanent. Granted, if they have nothing to sacrifice then you don't get triggers. But if they have no creatures then there's no one to block a very big and angry Mazirek.

Any reason Greater Good isn’t in here? I was surprised I didn’t see anyone mention it. Free sac outlet and card draw. With mazirek pumping everything up you could potentially draw so many cards.

That's true. It is a great card and I'd have to test for it. The only drawback is that it isn't a creature. Also, if all your creatures are too huge, you couldn't be able to consistently use it without possibly decking yourself and discarding a lot to the graveyard. I would say that it could be possible to test it in Smothering Abomination's place.

New card that fits perfectly in this.
Plaguespreader
2B
Creature- human shaman
When plaguespreader enters the battlefield, each player sacrifices a creature or planeswalker. Each player that can't, discards a card

Thanks! I've read a lot but my first time posting. Another card I was thinking about but I don't know if it's good enough for a slot is molder slug
Yeah, you could literally play Smokestack instead and it would be a better card than Molder Slug in every sense: creatures are easier to remove, Smokestack is not only easier to cast but it's cheaper to as well, Smokestack makes player sacrifice a permanent whereas Molder Slug is just an artifact.

Midnight Reaper - An easier to cast Dark Prophecy with a body. The only downside is that creatures are easier to get rid of than enchantments and it doesn't trigger when token creatures die.
Severed Strands - Provides a sacrifice outlet, gains you life, and can also destroy another creature. Definitely worth considering - especially in the Budget Build.
Izoni, Thousand-Eyed - Provides lots of creature tokens depending on the graveyard and also provides a cheap sacrifice outlet that gives card draw.
Vraska, Golgari Queen - All abilities are relevant. You can sacrifice a creature for value, destroy an opponent's cheap nonland permanent, and get an epic emblem. Although the emblem isn't necessary with how huge Mazirek can get, it can still end a game when you deprive the opponents of creatures with all the stax; only one creature unblocked and its game over.

What's good about Plaguecrafter (besides being a better Fleshbag Marauder) is that it can sacrifice itself when it enters the battlefield. Barter in Blood has the problem of me also needing to sacrifice two creatures. Sometimes I don't want to sacrifice said creatures. Barter in Blood would sometimes sit in my hand unless it would hurt opponents more than me.
Vraska, Golgari Queen is a great planeswalker for this deck. The positive ability is a sacrifice outlet that also nets me a card. The middle ability is great removal. The ultimate is amazing because the deck is constantly removing opponents' creatures. So even a lowly token that can go through is enough to win the game. So far I've been using Vraska as removal and advantage more so than worrying about getting the ultimate.

I know it's a bit early, but will you be doing a review of Commander 2018 cards for the deck?
I don't see much there for us (reprints excluded), other than Turntimber Sower, which could be pretty good.
Sac an Evolving Wilds, for example, get a plant token, pay G and sac 3 creatures return the EW, play it again, sac it... it can get a few triggers.
Skull Storm at 9 CMC....
What do you think?

Counting itself is not worth the life loss.
Maelstrom Pulse is slower and more costly than Abrupt Decay. But how often do you play a commander game when a huge threat has a CMC of less than 4? Between those two I'd go with Maelstrom Pulse. But between Maelstrom Pulse and Assassin's Trophy I'd go for the latter.
