Fairly straightfoward. Some light stax to ensure the boards don't get too out of control, and keep your spot removal meaningful. Lots of strong donate targets - but nothing that's ONLY useful as a donate target. The stax pieces (and the various auras) especially make great targets since it doesn't matter who controls them, but failing at that, there's always lands. The wipe selection is focused solely on the stuff that keeps Zedruu alive (or at least has the option to), since she's my only real draw engine. There's also very few creatures since I want to keep my own presence relatively light, and because creatures are usually worthless for donation purposes. If the library of leng + spellbook + reliquary tower seems stupid, the idea is that I can just donate whichever duplicates I run into. Anyway, that's all I got.
Played a handful of 1v1s and a 3-man FFA tonight, Zedruu crushed it each time. Surprise MVPs were the spellbook effects, they were great donate targets and really helpful when I started drawing 5+ cards a turn. I did trip over my own stax pieces a little (especially RIP, d'oh) but the deck was drawing and controlling so efficiently I never felt like it was too big of a deal. It didn't do as well as I was hoping at avoiding hate, but in retrospect I'm not sure what I thought people would do when it was drawing so many cards and killing everything all the time.
Tough call between a 4 and a 5. It was a lot of fun, definitely my kind of deck. On the other hand, not great at actually securing a win in a timely manner. I'll give Zed a high 4/5.
This deck has some good ideas. I only wish I had your card pool.
Well it helps that I only have 2 decks together at any given time, one of which is Zirilan of the Claw and one of which rotates through whatever I feel like building out of my pool on a given week. This week was Zedruu, next week I'm doing PDH, and the week after that I'm doing Tasigur. At some point I'm also going to squeeze in Teneb, the Harvester so I can finish my commander rainbow. I don't really like any of the abzan commanders but I guess Teneb is ok.
My goal is to be able to build any commander from what I have in my collection. I think I'm pretty close
O-stone is much much better than planar cleansing on a lot of fronts. The biggest ones are that o-stone can go off earlier (turn 5 with no ramp), o-stone can go off at instant-speed (such as eot so I get to rebuild first), and o-stone can save your permanents with counters. I always think it's weird that no one seems to care much about the fate counters, I use them all the time, but maybe it's just because most of the people I play against don't have much instant-speed artifact removal.
