Yeah, this card is the real deal for Grixis decks, since artifacts are the primary way that mana acceleration is accrued in these colors. Combine that with the natural synergy that Grixis has with artifacts, and it's a no-brainer. Especially in this list. I SO SO wish that it was just mono-Blue, so I could run it in my Memnarch and Teferi lists, but I guess they had to limit this card's awesomeness somehow, heh.
How has this deck been doing? I've been on a Teferi kick but this Stax-based list looks interesting and has some similarities to our glorious Stax Overlord.
Wow, this deck looks sweet. I'm new to commander, but man, I feel lika I gotta get this deck.
Welcome to the thread man! Its my pet deck, and I love maintaining it. Theres a ton of ways to build him, post your list as soon as youve cooked one up!

100% agree it couldnt be mono blue like the new cradle is mono green. It'd be insane. I actually have been brewing a new build, a fun new deck kinda in line with this design, in a weird way, and will be writing that deck up soon. I am waiting for the new Ixalan set to drop before I get more Mishra games in.
Oh man, thats a nasty set up. Boo on your opponents for letting that happen Paradox engine is so good.
Also, sorry i havent been posting as much everyone, been very busy with this holiday break, spending time with my daughter, and my wife bought me a switch, so I have been very distracted
Oh man, thats a nasty set up. Boo on your opponents for letting that happen Paradox engine is so good.
There are a number of nasty set ups that our opponents shouldn't let us get online. But sometimes we will. I think I had this going by turn 5 or 6, it's not always easy to stop us when we stampede out of the gate like that.
In other news, anybody plan on testing this:
The flip side is a colour fixing Sol Land that spits out 4/4 artifacts, and the main side is also an artifact and easy for us to transform. Seems made for the deck, but I'm not sure I have a cut I like.
The hard part about making that cut is that you are basically cutting a spell to make room for a land. makes it really hard to find a candidate for cutting.
The hard part about making that cut is that you are basically cutting a spell to make room for a land. makes it really hard to find a candidate for cutting.
It's also a token generator, so there is that.
The other problem is it is not actually a land card. I can't just cut a land for it because I run just enough to hit the land drops I need in the early game. So I think the most logical cut would be a mana rock. That's hard too, because this is a bit slow for a mana rock, and I think the rocks I'm running are overall better cards. My weakest mana rock is probably Mind Stone, and I'm already planning to ditch that for SotV.
I do love them Sol Lands though, and the defensive bolster would be useful where I feel soft to aggro...
So now that my pre-ordered cards have finally arrived!
Changes as of Feb 2018:
Out: Saheeli Rai - Her ultimate is an instant win for us with our 3 card combo, BUT, she never gets that far, and her first 2 abilities are, for the most part, weak.
In: Storm the Vault - Is this a surprise to anyone? if we get it turn 2 or 3 courtesy of a sol ring, it provides early game ramp, if we hit it in the mid game, we get an explosion of mana at the end of our turn.
Current deck Update! Cause why not?!?! >_> And in case you are wondering, I took out portcullis because my local players refused to play the deck otherwise. And in all honestly, it usually forced the games into stagnation and often it hurt my plays as well. So I switched it out for Vedalken Orrery so I can do silly things on other players turns.
How is orrery working out for you? I imagine with lattice and unwinding clock, you could really power some degenerate things with orrery. My build doesn't feature too many ETB effects, so im not sure i'd get the same value you do.
Honestly I don't use Vedalken Orrery for ETB effects so much as how much can be done with all our available mana and a frequently full hand. And for some reason, it's been ignored every single time I've played it. But mostly it's a card that, so far, has yet to be a dead draw. Having the option to play anything anytime is always a nice option.
Question cause googling doesn't seem to have an answer. If I have Mishra, Artificer Prodigy, Nether Void, and Possibility Storm all on the field at the same time. Since possibility storm says cast in both triggers. And nether void said counter on cast does that mean if I stacked Mishra triggers correctly that both would come back?
Yes, you control your own triggers and the order they apply to the stack. You just need to be explicitly clear to order them correctly, which is simply Mishra trigger is always last to resolve.
Mishra, Storm, and Void all in play.
I cast Sol Ring.
I stack the abilities, Mishra on the bottom, then void, then Possibility storm.
Possibility storm exiles sol ring then i start flipping until i hit an artifact, lets say Lightning Greaves.
I cast my new Greaves, stacking Mishra on the bottom, then void. Void counters, Mishra puts my greaves into play.
Storm then puts all my flipped cards onto the bottom of my library, including my exiled Sol Ring.
Void fizzles, as it has no sol ring spell to counter.
Mishra resolves, I search my library for Sol ring, and put it directly into play.
So Dominaria appears to have a few interesting new toys for us
Yeah it does, lots of goodies in bound. I plan to be picking up cards for Mishra and Thor asap. In the mean time, I will be posting a full set review hopefully later this weekend for anyone following this thread to enjoy!
TL;DR up front - What a great EDH set. The Historic mechanic empowers artifacts further, that said, not a WHOLE lot of action for Mishra in this set when it comes to deck defining cards. These are the cards I think are worthy of mention, and you may want to include a few in your build
Blue
The Antiquities War - 4 mana to dig 10 cards deep and draw 2 extra cards. Not bad, though I do not like how the saga ends, forcing your artifacts into a creature state. Annoyingly risky in my opinion.
Diligent Excavator - I don't like mill. I don't run mill in my Mishra deck. That said, some people like mill artifacts, and they like to use them as a way to finish the game. If you are doing that, this is a card that might work for your deck.
Artificer's Assistant - Might be the best blue card of the set for us. 1 drop flier that also gives us scry 1 on every artifact cast. Pretty great actually.
Unwind - Might be a staple, I plan to grab a copy or two, though not for Mishra.
Red
Squee, The Immortal - Potentially good for a Stax variant as a permanent that never is truly gone.
Black
Phyrexian Scriptures - Turns Mishra into an artifact via Phyrexian means...oh man the brothers war is coming back to me. Then you destroy all non artifacts, then you exile your opponents graves! This card looks fun, and might be worthy of a slot if you want to tinker with it.
Colorless
Karn, Scion of Urza - Looks too slow to be impactful. At 4 mana I expect a bigger splash than let my opponent pick 1 of 2 cards off the top, and risk exiling an important card to my own strategy. His -2 makes a beater creature, which might be decent for the deck, but overall, I am a pass on new Karn.
Mox Amber - Doesn't accelerate our early game, which makes me question its viability as a moxen. Late game, it will just be a conditionally bad multi color land equivolent. I don't like it much.
Weatherlight - If you run a creature beatdown variant of Mishra, this might be good for you, as it turns 3 power into 4, flies, and can draw us cards when it hits.
Blackblade Reforged - Good on any commander for aggro bonuses. I will definitely be grabbing a copy for my Thor deck, but its only good in Mishra if you are running an equipment based Mishra Voltron.
Helm of the Host - Not really useful for Mishra himself, but any of our other creatures could make use of this one. I will likely grab a few copies and potentially throw one into Mishra for funsies. Also combines nicely with Mechanized Production
Mishra's Self-Replicator - With a name like that, how could we NOT like this card?! Oh, yeah, because its a 5 drop 2/2 that takes more mana to replicate. That said, once you start getting copies of copies of copies, you might be able to do some good things, and again, works with Mechanized Production
Thran Temporal Gateway - I have mixed feelings. Its nice that it cheats artifacts into play for 4 mana, but I am unsure how much I like that its only from hand into play. Might have to get a copy and playtest it a little.
Damping Sphere - This one might be great for a stax build. Slows down lands that generate a lot of mana, and it prevents players from dumping their hands quickly.
Jhoira's Familiar - Expensive, but a 2/2 flier that makes our cards cheaper to cast. Overall, I think it'd be a great budget version card to include.
Multicolor
Jhoira, Weatherlight Captain - Draw a card with every artifact cast? Definitely a must pick up card in my opinion, gives us a 2nd copy of Vedalken Archmage. I will be buying her immediately.
Rona, Disciple of Gix - I just don't think she will be viable enough to run. I will see, but I am in no rush to play test Rona.
Lands
Cabal Stronghold - Not as good as coffers, but its going to be more affordable.
My apologies everyone, my office got crazy this month, and I took some time away from MTGSalv to focus on getting my project out the door on time. I am back now and I intend to catch up and post some updates
TL;DR up front - Artifacts are weak and uninspiring. Honestly, the best card in the set from my perspective is likey Stolen Strategy, and its not great if you can afford superior enchantments.
Blue
Zndrsplt, Eye of Wisdom - I am not super excited about this card, but it does provide another means of drawing cards for us. If you run a more chaotic Mishra and include Krark's Thumb, this could be a great card for you.
Chakram Retriever - With the right mana dorks, this card could be very abusable in a storm variant. That said, at 5cmc its very expensive for a non artifact.
Fumble - Meta specific, but my god is this strong against voltrons.
Spellseeker - great card, though idk if it fits Mishra.
Red
Okaun, Eye of Chaos - Again, if you are going hard on chaos and rocking the thumb, this guy MIGHT work well in Mishra, but not without his partner.
Stolen Strategy - oh man, this one has legs. We could steal an artifact and get value. Not consistent, but would be a great budget card for mishra!
Black
Thrilling Encore - Only really useful card I've seen in this set for Mishra, could help us recover from a board wipe. That said, not a trick i want to hold 5 mana for unless I am running a VERY creature heavy variant.
Colorless
Sentinel Tower - Frankly, the only card worthy of mention, and its really just useful in a storm / eggs mishra deck, and considering that we build up storm count via artifact cycling, its really not useful. Artifacts in general are a dud from this set.
Multicolor
Last One Standing - 3 mana board wipe can be pretty damn clutch, even if 1 creature sneaks by. Most decks in my meta are go wide, and rarely have a single key creature.
Lands
Nothing to see here
Let me know if you think I missed a noteworthy card and why and i'll add it to this list!
Still working on my 2018 set reviews, but no major changes have been made to this deck list this year, still maintaining, and would love to hear if anyone has any suggestions / synergies that are working for them; but my build has been performing very well for a while now.
Strongly considering dropping the 3 artifact lands from this deck in favor of either more versatile non basics OR just some basics to break the nonbo interaction with possibility storm as well as be a bit more resilient to early game removal. got hosed by a shattering spree the other day, feels bad man
Currently thinking about dropping Karn Liberated for Tezzeret, Artifice Master, but really struggling to find a place to plug Sai into the deck, despite him being very powerful in the build in that he provides free value on spell casts. Toying with cutting Phyrexian Arena for him, since Arena is slow to draw cards and harder to cast, where as Sai can draw immediately, and get us going with some bodies on the field.
How has this deck been doing? I've been on a Teferi kick but this Stax-based list looks interesting and has some similarities to our glorious Stax Overlord.
