Hi everyone! Thanks for the click. Ive been looking for a mono colour general that can have a great time in the more casual EDH group while still holding its own against the competitive blue-driven meta. I picked Adamaro because he was one of the first foils I ever got and very few people know he exists. (And he's usually surprisingly large haha)
The idea behind the deck is to quickly ramp with mana rocks and then drop Adamaro and blow up land after land. Red is the colour for artifact hate so Ive included a ton of that as well... and Mycosynth Lattice plus Vandalblast is just dirty as hell.
From the get-go, most people will see Adamaro and think, 'Oh, I'll play tons of Howling Mine effects and everybody will love me and I'll kill them and haha." But you must remember, red is the crappiest colour in commander. Everyone's cards are better than yours and you definitely don't want them to have MORE toys to kill you with. Solution? Blow up their lands of course! You can't play anything without lands now can you?
Mikokoro, Center of the Sea, Temple Bell: Cards for everyone which fuels Adamaro. I know I said these are a bit dangerous but hey... what options do we really have in red?
Blood Moon and Stranglehold are kind of hit or miss. They're either really fantastic or just slightly irksome. Any good ideas on a replacement? Same goes for Detritivore They are all prime targets for my discard spells when I don't need them so I guess there's that?
I like Koth, but Im not sure where to fit him... I could maybe lose Otherworld Atlas or Dwarven Miner! With the amount of LD I have he's pretty much useless. Im wondering how good he will be with so much land destruction? I'll want to get rid of my mountains more than anything since my non basics are so important. On the other hand, I DO play with crucible of worlds...
Haha i was just thinking the same thing. These names are so metal.
Im feeling there is a bit too much mass LD. I will replace 2 of the weaker ones for Decree of Annihilation (since it's uncounterable outside stifle effects) and another resilient threat. Perhaps some sort of animating artifact?
CARDS THAT ARE SLIGHTLY WEAK
Smoke: My meta usually wants to untap with just their general anyway. (Except for Azami but I'm already geared for her
Tectonic Break: I usually find this a lot worse than Thoughts of Ruin
Keldon Firebombers: Meh. Three lands is three lands and a 3/3 body is not worth 5 mana. Hes "alright" late game but by that point I've destroyed lands a bunch of times so everybody only has 3 or 4 and a 3/3 aint getting me anywhere. And if I see him early he just plain sucks
I really like Foriysian Totem. It dodges sorcery speed removal AND ramps. Guardian Idol is along the same lines. I love the idea of still having creatures (even small ones) after Wildfire and Destructive Force. Not to mention wrath effects. Also I think I want a bit more looting effects so I'm gonna add in Rummaging Goblin
So I've been testing and MAN is this deck fun. Since its mono red, you often find yourself doing different things to win (since you cant always achieve the MANA ROCK, ADAMAMARO, LD plan due to lack of card draw and filtering) and that leads to some really fun and creative games. Nobody ever got mad when I completely destroyed all lands : )
That said... the deck needs more LD haha! I've replaced some of the underperformers with cards I feel will better set up my plan!
-1 Ring of Valkas
-1 Detritivore
-1 Worn Powerstone
-1 Phyrexian Revoker
-1 Otherworld Atlas
-1 Into the Core
+1 Tectonic Break
+1 Fellwar Stone
+1 Decree of Annihilation
+1 Mana Vault
+1 Ruination
+1 Dwarven Miner
Im really not digging Godo that much : ( He's kind of weak with no powerful equipments other than the Sword. I may cut him. Not sure for what though. Perhaps something like Stranglehold It is a form of Land Denial since everybody in my playgroup runs fetches. And green ramp. I can't wait to see what's in the mono red commander 2014 deck!
Iron Maiden is great in a 4v4 free for all. If I'm not getting my LD as fast as I'd like too then it does a nice job of hurting people while I prepare. Not the best card in the deck but definitely not the worst. Nevyinyrral's Disk is no good here because it destroys artifacts and boy do I need those. Darksteel Forge, while a great card, never seems to affect the board state that much. Sure I've got indestructible lands and stuff with Mycosynth lattice out, but a much more devastating combo is with Vandalblast. Darksteel Forge is just to costly : (
I'm thinking of replacing Wheel of Fate. People just empty their hands before it resolves and get a bunch of new cards. Maybe I'll use Magus of the Moon instead? I'm thinking of going
Sword of War and Peace also kind of sucks here (my meta and just plain suckage) What other nice card could I use instead? it needn't be an equipment. I would use Lightning Greaves but theres isn't much targeted removal in my meta anyway and haste can come from Anger more efficiently. I'm trying Tormenting Voice in it's stead for now. Wondering if I should bother with Ruby Medallion...
O-Naginata is one of my favorite equips for aggressive strategies, and any time the power clause is relevant you were probably in trouble anyways. I'm not convinced SoWaP is a bad card, because it's probably my favorite sword in aggressive decks, but you could try O-Naginata Font of Mythos is one of the most efficient ways to make everyone draw a ton of cards. Anvil of Bogardan gives everyone more selection than raw cards, but more importantly takes everyone's max hand size away.
I ran a Multani, Maro-Sorcerer list for a while that used Umbilicus and Blood Clock, both of which kind of fit into what you're doing here. They either clear a path for you general while making him bigger or continue to do incremental damage.
Is skipping Wake of Destruction a meta call? It's an excellent way to take a mono-colored player out of the game, or set back a couple other players by hitting a common land. It does get less effective depending on your group, though.
I'd try and find some more artifact hate, particularly repeatable hate, if you're going to use Liquimetal Coating/Mycosynth Lattice, otherwise I would consider losing one or both of those. Heretic is excellent, Hoard-Smelter Dragon is solid but might not play well with the LD, and Hammer Mage deserves special mention for it's play with Lattice. Shattering Pulse might also be worth a consideration. You might also try Hoarding Dragon as a way to find the other piece, because it's an inconsistent combo as is. Burning of Xinye is a single player Wildfire analogue. It could still be solid in conjunction with your other land hate, and the cost on it is way down right now because of its recent FTV printing.
If you want to push MLD themes, I'd run more mana rocks. They let you play with no lands and make the group card draw a little more lopsided in your favor, because you're more likely to be able to play what you pick up. Thran Dynamo and Worn Powerstone are both excellent in the long game. Tangle Wire is a great tempo play, and the possibility of getting it online with Welder is a dream scenario.
I've never been a big fan of Mindclaw Shaman. I get that he's a good way to pick up effects that are outside of your color pie, but I've seen him whiff a fair amount as well. He's just more inconsistent than I like. Volcanic Fallout seems too small unless you're regularly facing token swarms. I like the card in this format more than some people I've talked to, but you're already running Wildfire and co. Tibalt, the Fiend-Blooded has never done much for me, but you may have different experiences. Crucible of Worlds seems a little unsupported. Is it doing good work with what you have in there?
I like the deck overall. It seems like it plays to Adamaro's strengths well.

This is a really cool deck, I like the flavour of it.
My only recommendation would be what a previous comment mentioned: Darksteel Forge.
Not only would this combo with Mycosynth Lattice to protect your lands, but without Mycosynth Lattice it also protects the mana rocks that may be your primary mana base. It also allows Liquimetal Coating to save a creature in combat, or any otherwise non-artifact permanent from targeted destruction.
Karn, Silver Golem would also do a lot of work in this deck. Targeted land destruction in combination with Liquimetal Coating or Mycosynth Lattice, He's a pretty solid blocker and he can animate your other artifacts as blockers/beaters as necessary.
Thanks for the feedback guys! I've decided to do the following with the deck
OUT
-1 Liquimetal Coating: Just too weak without Heretic. Mycosynth Lattice is much better.
-1 Mindclaw Shaman: Like you said Weebo, he's just too inconsistent.
-1 Wheel of Fate: The worst wheel since people can see it coming.
-1 Rummaging Goblin: Deal Broker is way better.
-1 Swiftfoot Boots: Hexproof is useless in my meta. Most players play some form of combo so not that much spot removal in their decks.
-1 Howling Mine: I feel Anvil of Bogardan will do the job a bit better.
-1 Tibalt, the Fiend-Blooded: Sad to see this one go but I just need room : (
-1 Sword of War and Peace: The power boost is more significant on Warhammer. Lifelink is much more reliable than SoWaP lifegain ability and Trample assures at least something is dying to Adamaro.
IN
+1 Magus of the Moon: Land denial.
+1 Deal Broker; Looter
+1 Tormenting Voice: Some more draw.
+1 Anvil of Bogardan: Better than Howling Mine for this type of deck.
+1 Karn, Silver Golem: So freaking sweet with Latice! And makes beaters too! He can also be used politically. Thanks for the suggestion Arkhaic!
+1 Torpor Orb: Lots of combo in my meta and this stops some of it. Just plays well here since I have ONE creature that has an ETB effect.
+1 Wake of Destruction: Im gonna try this one out. I would maybe just put Boil instead tbh, but hitting the green ramp decks at the table is nice. This is the only addition I'm kinda iffy on. Most players in my meta play multicolor and different combinations to boot!
+1 Thran Dynamo: I like this better than Worn Powerstone because its not a three drop. And I want Adamaro at 3
What do you guys think? Good moves? I really want to try Hoarding Dragon and Darksteel Forge but I feel that one is too slow and the other too high CmC for it's board impact.
Oh and to answer your question Weebo, yes, Crucible is incredible. It allows me to play the lands that i blew up with my mass LD AND lets me use the lands in my hand as discard fodder.
I'm wondering if maybe Voltaic Key would serve as a better mana rock than say... Fellwar Stone? It can also untap some other non-mana producing artifacts like Temple Bell or Deal Broker

Voltaic Key is only a mana rock if you control one of four other artifacts in the deck, otherwise you're just breaking even. You only have a handful of cards that it does anything with.

This deck has been testing VERY well! I'm starting to think I don't need Anvil of Bogardan or Temple Bell. I actually have sufficient card filtering with my red draw cards and these tend to help the other players. In testing, at least ONE opponent ALWAYS has 6+ cards in hand without my help so these are kind of dangerous to run. Anybody got any alternatives? I'm gonna try Lightning Bolt in place of Anvil for now. Its nice spot removal and could also remove Planeswalkers. I'm also thinking of trying either Banefire or Overmaster.
What do we think about the new commander spoilers? Seems like that new goblin planeswalker would be great here!
Looks like I'm gonna ditch Iron Maiden. Its just really par. The damage is incredibly irrelevant haha. I'm not sure what to use instead though. Something that stops Prosh decks would be nice. Does anybody have experience with War's Toll? Seems like a fun card : )
Hey man.
Couple suggestions here.
Instead of Iron Maiden, perhapsSulfuric Vortex? The life gain hose can be very relevant. Teferi's Puzzle Box can frustrate control decks and help you filter through your deck. Unless you like your hand, then of course you Goblin Welder that box. Stoneshaker Shaman is dick with Winter Orb.
Prosh decks I think might get a little hurt by Æther Flash. I dunno, it's tough playing mono red in that situation. Jokulhaups, All is Dust, and Oblivion Stone cause sometimes it ALL has to go.
-1 Deal Broker (Too Slow, irrelevant body)
-1 Mad Prophet (Only reason it was here was haste, which Daretti sort of has)
-1 Loxodon Warhammer (O-Naginata fills the trample role better)
-1 Aftershock (OMG Volcanic Offering is SOOOO much better than this)
-1 Coldsteel Heart (I felt that Sculpting Steel would either be a better mana rock, or just a much stronger artifact in general)
+1 Sculpting Steel
+1 Daretti, Scrap Savant
+1 Wurmcoil Engine (Threats for days and nice synergy with Goblin Welder and Daretti)
+1 Volcanic Offering (I would play 20 of these if I could. This card is nuts. Mono red staple)
+1 O-Naginata (I wanted a faster Loxodon Warhammer, and this is it)
Man is this deck ever fun. I've been playing a lot of star magic and 2 headed and this is usually the deck that has the most political sway. I usually found myself being the center of attention, and not in a bad way.
Thanks man : ) I hope you're serious because its damn fun to play. I've been looking for something other than Adamaro to close games out quick after lands have gone boom. Any suggestions? I cant really rely on combo since the deck isn't build that way and has pretty much no tutors. I'm gonna try using Hoarding Dragon in place of Reiterate. This is very much a tap out style deck and Reiterate just doesn't really do much here. I cant think of an efficient way red ends games other than Comet Storm with doublers like Furnace of Rath but thats an entirely different type of deck. I'm also replacing Destructive Force with Devastation. It's just better : )
I'll also be giving Hammer of Purphoros a chance in place of Aether Flash. I need a second haste enable and this one is pretty sweet. Actually, maybe Urabrask would be better

Boseiju, Who Shelters All: Uncounterable land destruction? I'll take it.
Mikokoro, Center of the Sea, Temple Bell: Cards for everyone which fuels Adamaro. I know I said these are a bit dangerous but hey... what options do we really have in red?
Mycosynth Lattice: This is a big one. So many powerful synergies with this card.
1. With Karn, Silver Golem we get 1: destroy target land.
2. With Vandalblast: we get 4R: lose target friend
3. With Goblin Welder: we can just have way too much fun swapping.
4. With Viashino Heretic: we can destroy any permanent for 2R
5. With Shattering Spree: we get Vindicate on crack
Blood Moon, Price of Glory, Stranglehold: Your standard red hate. We have few reasons to tap for mana during an opponents turn so Price of Glory is especially dirty.
Greater Gargadon: Nothing is sweeter than having this guy suspended when you decide to blow up all lands. He is definitely the greatest gargadon.
Volcanic Offering: This card is insane. Play with it, you'll see why. Its a 4 for 1. Instant. In RED!

Font of Mythos is one of the most efficient ways to make everyone draw a ton of cards.
Anvil of Bogardan gives everyone more selection than raw cards, but more importantly takes everyone's max hand size away.
