MTG Salvation

FEEL THE BURN!! Very inspired by Beusapu's deck with a few innovations on my end.



Ok, so just like Beusapu's deck this deck runs the instant kill Myr Incubator combo as well a standard suite of protection/lockdown cards like Ricochet Trap. The two major innovations are:

Possibility Storm - We have very few tutors in our deck. Late game this card is actually used for tutoring- we shuffle away our weaker cards to look for our damage dealers. Great plays include Iron Myr into Chancellor of the Forge and Pyroblast targetting Purphoros into a Price of Progress. Not only that, it also screws over our control opponents, assuming they let it resolve.

Thieves' Auction - Another finisher. When we cast this, we usually put ourselves really far ahead. Since we get first pick, we always pick Purphoros - and if it is sufficient, we simply pick enough creatures until we deal lethal damage.

Any CC would be much appreciated

Yup. You can target him, but Pyroblast checks whether he is blue. He isn't. In either case it's to use possibility storm.

The cards you posted...aren't very optimal...? I mean Purphoros is out main Wincon so we avoid playing devotion 5. Kava is weak in EDH, Kikijiki- Conscripts not as strong in mono red due to lack of card draw/tutor IMO. Kikijiki's RRR mana cost also worries me because it allows opponents to exile purphoros.

Hoarding Dragon is not as necessary because we don't have any crucial artifacts to grab ASAP, aside from perhaps Myr Incubator.

Jaya is just not good enough. Neither is Avatar of Fury because we don't swing into people as often, it's also overextending due to its high RR cost and high cmc. from experience people will attack you so I keep tokens for defense mostly. In the same vein Charmbreaker Devils are also pretty subpar....although getting back a token generation spell is nice.

Ash Zealot isn't that good? I'd rather run Young Pyro and he isn't that good either. Taurean mauler isn't good either when it's just a beatstick with no evasion, speaking from my experience playing him.

Kazuul could be good.

Mindclaw as a one shot effect? Meh.

I wish I could afford a Top, I'd definitely run that. Wheel of fortune as well.

Devil's play I cut in favor of token generation spells, especially stuff like Firecat Blitz. Same idea but higher damage. Magma quake was in there but I removed it
for blasphemous act.

Word of Seizing and wild ricochet could be good.

All in all, no disrespect or anything but that's about it... Like the creatures you mentioned aren't really that required or strong at all...? They'd fit better in a deck like Krenko I suppose but for a deck that will antagonise an entire table we usually don't have enough resources to commit to Avatar of fury? Molten primordial is just...bad. I'd rather run Insurrection. Kikijiki works with creatures with Etb but his RRR cost is a liability.

So the cards I'll take into consideration are the Top, Kazuul, Wheel and Word of Seizing. The others just aren't good enough/appropriate IMO

This is actually wrong, you must select a legal target to cast the spell, which has to be a blue creature. Think about it like if you was casting Lightning Bolt: you can't target a land or any other non-creature permanent, even if that permanent could be a legal target before resolution.

It does mean that Pyroblast is dead against non-blue decks. Assuming there is no blue deck in your match, you don't want to top deck it and you don't want to get it off P-Storm either. This card is a sideboard card at best.

It targets permanents. Idk, gatherer said I can target a non-blue permanent as well. But you're right, I wouldn't want to P-storm into this.

Look at the little different wording here. The way Pyro is written makes it check the color only on resolution because of the "if" intervening clause.

That's actually weird, but anyway, I still don't think it's a really good commander card but that could be a meta choice too.

I see! I was assuming that REB would work too but it fizzles, but now I see the point of the clause 'if'.

I'll probably cut it for Wild Ricochet or Wheel of Fortune or a Sensei's Divining Top, if I can get my hands on one though. Keeping a counterspell in red is a trick up my sleeve, but my meta is getting less and less blue heavy.

Wild Ricochet is 4 mana, you could look at Reiterate, Fork and Reverberate too (while I understand that Wild Ricochet is sometimes better, you will probably find out that the built-in Redirect is rarely relevant).

Have you considered Viashino Sandstalker? I am currently making up a purphoros list and I found him with my old cards.

While I like that he's 2 damage at least every turn, the CMC 3 and the double RR make him feel kind of lackluster. I'd rather run Glitterfang for a similar ability at a lower cost.

Hmm, I may get a Fork, but I haven't used Reverberate much. I should try and get a Gamble.

I have found that the RR copy spells are more meh compared to the redirect spells Wild Ricochet, Shunt and Ricochet Trap. Although both Red Copy and Redirect spells can help counter most Counterspells, only the Redirects will protect Purphoros from Oblation, Degalmer, and Chaos Warp. Ricochet Trap is probably my favorite versus blue since you can cast it for one R.

In addition to Gamble on my recent internet MTG card purchases, I will be playtesting Ring of Three Wishes to tutor for win conditions or a lost Purphoros, Synod Sanctum to prevent Purphoros from being tucked or stolen and Ensnaring Bridge to keep me safe and warm.

The Commander 2013 precons also gave us Tempt with Vengeance for lots-o-tokens, Sudden Demise for one-sided mass removal and my favorite secret tech piece... Eye of Doom.

Ring is great! Better than Planar Portal: it never sticks that long and the lower CMC is a big factor.

Synod Sanctum is interesting, I may try it out. Ensnaring Bridge though....wow. I need that.

How does Eye Of Doom work for you? Political card or just for the ability to destroy enchantments etc?
