I recently brought Mayael the Anima out of retirement out of a request by my roommate (who really only plays Duels of the Planeswalkers and with me and my playgroup occasionally) who saw Mayael sitting in my binder.
It's your basic Mayel approach: Lots of fatties, ramp, protection for Mayael.
I also run a very good enchantment package as well as important utility creature that are not able to be cheated out into play with Mayael's ability.
Is anyone still playing Mayael, The anima? I have a deck list of my own that I will be posting soon, but im just curious how many other people are still using her. It will be quite pointless if i post the deck list... and no one chimes in to offer better cards lol
She is actually the first deck that I built in commander, and I built it from scratch
I think that with the release of the new Naya generals from C13 a lot of people are going to be moving away from Mayael. From what I've seen/read she's just too inconsistent for the price you pay to cheat things in, you may as well run a solid utility general like Marath and just amp into the fatties, instead of trying to pigeonhole your deck into a Mayael build that only has maybe a 25% chance of actually hitting a creature with it's ability.

Ya im afraid you're right It's just hard to let go of my first one ya know? I totally get why Marath is better, believe me, I just dont wanna give up on it yet.
The thought has crossed my mind of converting the deck to Marath as well. A friend of mine in my local playgroup played his freshly built Marath deck this week and it looked fun.
Mayael can still wreck, though, as it's true there may be diminishing returns on the cost value for getting your fatties into play, I still like being able to cycle lands away to the bottom late in the game.
Gisela, Blade of Goldnight is also always devastating for your opponents if you hit her and she's left answered. Each fat would hit for at least 10.
Warstorm Surge is a slightly more expensive alternative for Where Ancients Tread, but lets you trigger Deus of Calamity's ability when it hits the battlefield. Also, triggers on Ant Queen tokens.
Mm, whats the purpose of Squee in your deck? Is he there for just Survival of the Fittest?

Yes, exactly. Squee is in there for free Survival activations. Gisela would be insane in here, but I only own one copy presently, and it is in my Kaalia deck.
I haven't converted to Marath yet (although I think it's imminent) there are some updates I have made to the deck that I just entered. Please still feel free to leave feedback.
I'm planning on finishing my Mayael deck rather soon, though a few of the cards will have to be proxied for the time being. I don't care if she's unpopular, she just seems like a ton of fun to play. What better way to play EDH than to stomp with big creatures?

Scroll Rack is also pretty great with Mayael, and I run Lurking Predators to further take advantage of it.
