I've been throwing around my Obzedat deck around for quite a while, and I've been picking up tons of things to eventually squeeze into the deck. Unfortunately, this maybe-board no longer fits in the fatpack used for a deckbox (which normally holds three EDH decks perfectly), so I defining some of the themes better, cutting phat, and saying good-bye to several pet cards that just aren't good (I still love you, Mischievous Poltergeist!). I've gotten well on my way, but hit a wall and would appreciate suggestions to help get rid of this sideboard-that-isn't!
My current 'themes':
-Keep the power-level really competitive, but not dominating: I play opponents from Pirate tribal to full-on Child of Alara 'everything combo' and want it to be interactive and promote social interaction that doesn't start with "lynching".
-Keep flavorful: Though Basilica Screecher is cool, it doesn't quite cut it. But Angel of Despair is perfect. I picture this as a 'bad religion' deck, like cultists or delusional preachers (lands like Godless Shrine and Temple of the False God really help this).
-Have a few routes to victory: all eggs should not be in one basket.
Mechanics I want to support:
-Reanimation #1
-Being able to ramp into my would-be reanimation targets should any wild yard hate appears
-Few infinite combos: I plan on winning by either damage, life-drain, or removing every permanent my opponent owns
-Inevitability: I want to be the player that can rebuild from ANYTHING. It may hinder speed, but the sheer resiliency beats most decks that wanna Wildfire and pray
-Lifegain: Keeping this to a minimum, but it tends to be the best defense in my LGS, as people with things like Moat are targeted before players that have cast Beacon of Immortality do
1 Ashen Rider - New Angel of Despair, but better! And it's a gal that ISN'T a stripper in her off-time!
1 Unburial Rites - Really like the idea of Entombing this in a niche
1 Preacher - What's evil religion without a preacher? Has a lot of synergy with the sac outlets as repeatable removal, even with the opponent choosing
1 Reassembling Skeletons - Skullclamp's BFF
1 Bloodghast - See above
1 Temple of Silence - Waiting to obtain
1 Hero's Downfall - Instant-speed Jace removal? I see potential, but maybe not
1 Avacyn, Angel of Hope - My wraths now cheat. I like it
1 Austere Command - I took it out for the flavorful version, but I think both should be here
1 Cauldron of Souls - Neat trick, still not sure if it needs in though
1 Oblivion Stone - Normally, I don't care for the Disk in white. but the instant-speed really matters, so I can Wrath and not hit Obzedat
1 Sorin Markov - Makes my deck's clock respectable, and helps with spot-removal for little utility dudes
1 Elspeth, Knight-Errant - If I add planeswalkers, she really should be here
1 Luminate Primordial - Abuse ALL the CITP effects!
1 Sepulchral Primordial - See above
1 Exquisite Blood - Seems great, even without the combo-out potential, but not sure if it's worth a spot as just lifegain
1 Duplicant - Reanimate-able removal? And exiles? Sure!
1 Bone Shredder - Still debating whether I want him or Fleshbag Marauder in that spot. The sacrifice effect is fine, but the Marauder's art is something to cry about
1 Burnished Hart[/c] - This is just the most perfect everything: Sun Titanable, Reveillarkable, and land-based ramp
1 Mana Crypt - Good ramp is good ramp, but I am very color-heavy
1 Gilded Lotus - Do I still want to be ramping at this point?
