MTG Salvation

Jarad was originally added as another sac outlet in my old Savra deck, but it became apparent that he outshone his sister in terms of raw power. While Savra could play a slow, grinding control game, she was not a sac outlet herself. Jarad is far more aggressive, getting big enough to deal serious damage and bleeding opponents dry with a killer sac ability. Needless to say, I scrapped the Savra shell and made numerous changes, but the result was well worth it.



The deck is creature-heavy because that works well with Jarad's first two abilities. Most of the cards fall into at least one of the following categories: ramp, fatties, bleeders, recursion, removal, card advantage. Whenever possible, I selected cards that filled more than one of these functions, which means there was no room for vanilla fatties like Boneyard Wurm and Lord of Extinction or even french vanillas like Mortivore and Revenant. While those creatures are certainly big and can be devastating with Jarad's fling ability, they do little else for the deck and are less interesting to me.

Feel free to leave suggestions on what to add or what to cut (I think I may want to bump the land count up a little). Just try to keep the suggestions on theme of ramping into useful fatties while bleeding my opponents' life totals.

I traded for another Massacre Wurm for this deck. He really fits the theme, killing off small creatures and bleeding opponents while providing a nice body to fling in a pinch. Braids was a holdover from the Savra deck that didn't really belong.

I've been pleased with the deck so far but feel like it needs to go just a little faster. Even ramping to more land than both my opponents combined, I felt like I could have used more mana. Card draw would be nice, too.

Why don't you add more ramp to make it go faster? =)

Have you considered Cauldron of Souls?

I had been considering Seedguide Ash but prefer my ramp to be at the lower end of the mana curve or to do something more (like Sylvan Primordial). The others are non-creatures, which makes them less useful to Jarad. That doesn't mean I won't consider, it just means they'll really have to earn their spot. I do have a few other creatures that fetch land - maybe I'll dig them out and find one or two more to add.

And I hadn't really looked at Cauldron of Souls. Mikaeus serves a similar purpose and has a 5/5 body to boot.

The banning of Sylvan Primordial was a bummer but at least made it easy to add Champion of Stray Souls without having a hard time figuring out what to cut.

Sidisi, Undead Vizier joins the ranks as Diabolic Intent #2. I removed Dawntreader Elk.

Hey, I'd like to welcome you to Jarad. I've been playing a combo Jarad for a couple years, and while our wincons are different, our engines are pretty similar. You're missing some important pieces, like Greater Good, Entomb, etc. Here's my list.

It's been seven months since I recorded changes to this deck, but I've been playing it off and on the whole time.



Champion of Stray Souls was never as fun as I hoped, and Phyrexian Altar is needed elsewhere, so out they go. The Bloodghast/Perilous Forays combo was cute but rarely happened.
Two more bleeders in. I'm not sure why Gary took so long to find a home here, but he's in. And Cutthroat is nice redundancy to Blood Artist and Falkenrath Noble.
Caterpillar is simply a cheaper Zealot.

Deathmantle looks good in theory, but I often don't have 4. 1B is easier and nets me more cards in the long run.

This Zombie Elf demands a necro. I've been playing and tweaking the deck but haven't been very good at updating the list for the past 2+ years. I just updated the original list with the cumulative changes, and wow are there a lot of changes.
