I am still pretty new to Sliver commander. I ripped apart my 60 card Sliver deck and my other commander deck to make this, then traded and ordered some cards. I've only had it completed, as in playable with combos, for a couple weeks now. I think I know what you mean by cutting slivers, though, and I will look there when I go to replace cards.
@FrostyNuggets: I like your build! It's about halfway between my aggro and combo lists.
What battle plan do you have, aggro OR combo? If you go for the latter, let me warn you: you're going to get a lot of flak -sliver combo can be pretty ruthless and a ***** to play against-, and more often than not you'll find yourself fighting a lopsided battle against the rest of your table. (I did that for years myself.) If you do go ahead with combo, heed Danz' and Gref's advice: reduce your sliver count, go for ramp and a very solid and varied (read: expensive as f**k) mana base, and bring in countermagic by the ton.
Going aggro is an entirely different business, and one a lot more rewarding in my humble opinion In that case, yes, you want lots of slivers indeed, but what will make or break your build will be the stuff you use to spice them up. I handpicked some mana rocks, added some stuff to rearrange your drawing (read: Mirri's Guile and Sensei's Divining Top), brought in tutoring engines (Survival of the Fittest)... I'm currently experimenting with more equipment, other than Sword of Feast and Famine, which is an absolute must.
I've been doing some reading since I read these and I find myself torn between the two. I love being able to fabricate a win out of nowhere with the combos. I also like having 12 flying, deathtouching, shrouded, double strikers, with a Sliver Legion in play. It seems with my list now that either one or the other happens, sometimes even both. I do want to cut a few of the weaker Slivers (Trample for instance) for Mirri's Guile, Sylvan Library, and Divining Top. It's just a matter of when I will have extra resources, though, and I'm not sure when exactly that will be. Between Root Sliver and Cavern of Souls I am able to play around counter-magic, and I could always use the commander, Overlord, to tutor up Queen, Gemhide, Heart, and Basal, heck, I could even shroud the combo and play it uncounterable.
Anyways I'm having a great time with this deck. I hope to play it for a long time to come.
I just realized that Survival of the Fittest and Pulmonic Sliver work very well together. lol

Hi everyone,
I am new to EDH, still building my first EDH deck, and I found slivers to be the absolute perfect fit for EDH.
I was hoping to get some advice regarding my deck, which is a work in progress.
Please keep in mind, I am trying to keep it as budget as possible, which means no fetchlands, no original dual lands, shocklands, etc. I am trying to not spend more than $5-15 per card, unless absolutely necessary. I am still trying to cut down the price, so if you see anywhere I can do that, please let me know.
The deck is meant mostly a toolbox, with the ability to control the board as necessary while at the same time having the ability to explode and annoy my opponents at any time.
Thanks in advance for the advice:
@MaxwellP: Cyclonic Rift would fit nicely in that build IMO. Good luck btw, I hope you can achieve a consistent list on budget, it's something I never managed to get.

I'll definitely find a spot for Cyclonic Rift, its a nice board wipe if overloaded.
Thanks.
Yeah, a budget build is painfully difficult.
I have been messing around with numbers for around a week now and the one I have up is the cheapest I can make, so far.
I would like it below $200, but it sacrifices so much consistency.
The problem will be consistency you need to make sure you have all 5 colors available by turn 5 (6 at the latest).
The killer is that ramp won't help you near as much as it generally pulls forests or basic lands. You just won't get the diversity as with Duals and Shocks.
I would make your budget build and then fill it in over time if you like playing the deck.

The mana base is definitely the issue.
I do plan to slowly build this up over time, so what I have up is the temporary list.
I do hope to eventually get the fetchlands, painlands, and if I magically come upon money the original dual lands.
What I will probably do is find the bare minimum that the deck needs, the absolute staples. And then from there I will put in the necessary countermagic, removal, etc.
I really like the 3 color lands, i just wish that there were pain-land versions of them, it would help a ton.
You may wish to consider sticking in the Panoramas from the Alara cycle. Their ability limits you strictly to basic lands AND has a cost on top on that... but on the good side, packing a few basics would mitigate the impact a Blood Moon could have. Danz' suggestions are also must-haves at this point; maybe later you can prescind of the Omen, but right now they're critical.
I'm adding a link to your list to the primer post. It's a good starting point for those beginning to assemble their swarms.

The alara lands are interesting, ill test with them and see how it goes.
Yeah playing around blood moon is definitely a nice ability to have.
Thanks for including me.
Ill post a new list later today or tomorrow, which will be a "budget" build with mostly staples and then some blank spots, and what I put there.
I play with a more casual group of friends and I run Sliver Overlord as my commander, however the land base is super budget, all of the vivid lands, shard tri colors, a few more mana rocks then I think most decks run.. and it seems to work out fine.
I guess that's more in a casual setting though, against decks with duals/fetches/etc it might get stomped? I'm not sure because I haven't tried it yet, going to bring it to my LGS on Friday to find out.

The biggest problem is your mana comes in tapped and you can't mana fix. You have to play whatever you randomly draw. In 5 colors that can make solid access to any color very difficult.

Great guide! Really enjoying playing the aggro list - its fiesty put doesn't fun stomp. Great balance.
However, I find that it may need a bit of tweaking in curve, such as some more early game drops. Not sure what to fiddle with, but I am starting by bringing in mox diamond over seedguide ash.
Thanks I fun stomped long enough with the combo list, the aggro one is a lot more enjoyable to play against.
What you suggest could certainly make it work faster, I'll give you that. It warrants a try.
Primal Surge is the ultimate fun card: either it spectacularly succeeds and has everyone raped by a swarm the likes of which would make a Tyranid player proud, or it spectacularly fails and has everyone laughing their asses off (such as when the first card I exiled after playing it was a Hull Breach. Ow.) Efficiency-wise, it's great. (EDIT: at least in this build.) Fun-wise, it's unmatched.

I am also testing out Liliana of the dark realms, she has some awesome interactions with the mana base, and is a land tutor that is also a permanent, that also voltrons the overlord.
Hmmmm... the thing about the card you get back being chosen at random kind of puts me off. On the other hand, it could prolong its stay on the board, and if you could flash it in before your turn having abused the Top beforehand... It merits testing alright.

Yeah, it depends how far you want to go down the purely fun rabbit hole. I see this as a totally unnecessary, but potentially quite fun card.

I think at worst it's card advantage. It's basically get a free creature or draw a card at random from your graveyard. It's also nice recursion even if only random.
I think it's a fun card and it should be a fairly cheap addition. Plus you can tutor it if you want. Our ramp should allow it to come out pretty early.
It would be sick to start infinite mana from mana echoes without even paying for it. lol

Being a GW player at heart, I wanted to start around a core of my other decks, mainly Saffi Eriksdotter, Reveillark and Karmic Guide. This would additionally serve as recursion of my slivers so that I do not need to rely on Patriarch Bidding or Living death to resurrect my creatures. I am not a big fan of counterspells, since they take up a slot in your hand and you need to keep your mana open. I understand that sometimes a key spell needs to be countered but usually my creatures can deal with that. The Slivers I feel even more so.
One card somebody pointed out to me is Wild pair. Is it possible to play these or are Sinew Sliver or Muscle Sliver and the like messing this up too much.
*facepalm* Wild Pair should have been included outright since it's packed in the Premium Deck Slivers set. I'm not a big fan of it though, it tends to have a very reduced board life. I've seen Karmic Guide used, abused and reused in outrageous ways, but I'm a bit reluctant to add up more non-sliver creatures to these builds. (That's my personal preference, I'll add it to the useful card list; most will have no such compunctions. )
Have you read the aggro list? Since you mentioned countermagic I venture you may have skipped it. It's a lot more fun to play IMO.

Not trying to be a downer, but it's true. I'd make sure you are using Prismatic Omen and Chromatic Lantern.
