I focus on reanimation instead of card draw in my Mimeoplasm deck. I would switch out the SoFaI for Sword of Body and Mind or Sword of Light and Shadow. I only own the SoBaM otherwise I would probably use both. The SoBaM has great synergy with Mimeoplasm. Mills your opponent plus it gives you tokens to sacrifice. I'm trying out Grimgrin, Corpse-Born in my deck so the tokens will be useful. Also with the SoLaS, most targeted removal is white or black so it's like having pseudo shroud.
Sword of Light and Shadow seems good and is on my want list. However, Sword of Body and Mind is the weakest Sword in my opinion because a lot of times milling an opponent for 10 will help set up their own reanimation strategies. Milling is just really risky in EDH. Also, the 2/2 wolf is less relevant than you might think because it doesn't die to Skullclamp and I don't have any 1 cmc creatures to Pod it into. GrimGrin seems like kind of janky way to use the tokens and I don't think I realy have room for something like that in here since he doesn't really do anything except get big and attack.
EDIT: Which do you guys think is better? Putrefy or Krosan Grip? Putrefy hits creatures, but I feel like the ability to hit enchantments might be more useful, since it's so much easier to kill creatures in other ways. The Split Second on K-Grip is occasionally relevant against graveyard hate.
I'm starting to question Avenger of Zendikar's spot in here because someone usually wraths before it can do anything. Also it's one of the most boring ways to win of all time. I don't really enjoy winning with it anymore.
Also not sure on Nihil Spellbomb. The Mimeoplasm can serve as graveyard removal in an emergency, while Bojuka Bog is tutorable off Prime Time and only takes a land slot. The biggest upside of Spellbomb is that it's tutorable off Trinket Mage and can be used to draw a card (from something like Mystical Tutor) in a pinch.
Re SoBaM: found another use for tokens. I play with Grave Pact, Butcher of Malakir, and sac outlets.
Grimgrin does more than attack, he's also creature removal. But you're right I might cut him. I'm just trying him out for now.
Putrefy vs Krosan Grip. Depends on what you're using it for. I would play Krosan Grip since I have plenty of creature removal and split second can be useful when destroying Nevinyrral's Disk, Oblivion Stone, Tormod's Crypt, Elixir of Immortality, Relic of Progenitus, etc. Although, before I played either Putrefy or Krosan Grip I would use Beast Within.
Avenger of Zendikar. I just put him in my Mimeoplasm deck. Avenger was sitting in my trade box since I took him out of my Mayael deck. I think he fits better in a deck with sac outlets.

I think I'm going to go with Grip because like you said, I already have plenty of sweepers to deal with creatures. Beast Within is obviously the best, and is already there, I'm just trying to decide which one takes the second spot.
As for Avenger, he's still in right now, but I keep feeling tempted to cut him. The best time to draw him is when I have Skullclamp to turn him into a draw engine. Maybe I should cut him for some more reliable draw like Necropotence?
Lately I've been really liking the ability to chain Disciple of Bolas into Mulldrifter into Consecrated Sphinx with Birthing Pod for insane Card Advantage. I feel like the four pillars of this deck are Ramp, Draw, Recursion, and Tutoring.
I finally got the casual budget list done. It's listed in the second post. The goal is to make a fun, relaxed version to use in casual games. It's much more mill and graveyard oriented, which I feel adds to the flavor. The list is still pretty rough since I just grabbed the stuff I had in my collection, so I'm sure there are plenty of suggestions and changes to be made.
I really appreciate all the recent contributions people have made. You guys have helped me improve the deck tremendously, and I feel like we have a lot of great discussion going on.
I can potentially go infinite with Time Warp in here as well. All I need is Eternal Witness and some card that lets me reuse ETB effects like Crystal Shard or Deadeye Navigator. I'm also thinking about including Archeomancer as another option to go infinite, and also just for more spell recursion.
The idea of cutting SoFaI seems wrong to me, but maybe it just doesn't belong in this deck.
Wurmcoil Engine is okay, but I've found that it often doesn't do anything other than beat down and gain 6 life per swing. In multiplayer games this really isn't that much. Most of my deaths don't come to general damage or infect, but most of the time having 6 more life wouldn't have saved me. I agree that lifegain in huge quantities (such as Celestial Mantle) can be powerful, but 6 life isn't very relevant in a 40 life format.
Archaeomancer in a pod chain with an extra turn effect in the graveyard is extremely powerful: Eternal Witness->Archaeomancer->Body Double->Sun Titan. I like it over Snapcaster for reusability.

Unfortunately I don't have access to Sun Titan in this deck. That said, I added in Archeomancer, while keeping Snapcaster as well.
What do people think about pure combo Mimeoplasm? I've built my deck around winning with Triskelion-Mikaeus and Triskelion-Phyrexian Devourer-Necrotic Ooze.
What do people think about pure combo Mimeoplasm? I've built my deck around winning with Triskelion-Mikaeus and Triskelion-Phyrexian Devourer-Necrotic Ooze.
I would say that a pure combo version is definitely viable. I choose not to run a lot of combos because my group would hate me for it. However, if you group is fine with it, then by all means, go for it. Necrotic Ooze has so many different potential combos. I would suggest including Devoted Druid with either Quillspike or Grim Poppet as well as maybe Bloodline Keeper + Grimgrin, Corpse Born. There are also a number of different infinite mana combos with Palinchron, which include pairing it with Deadeye Navigator or Phantasmal Image. If you go the infinite mana route you can draw your deck and mill everyone out with Blue Sun's Zenith or Oona, Queen of the Fae. Another potential kill option is Exsanguinate. No matter which combos you decide to go for, make sure to run both of your options for free counterspells (Force of Will and Pact of Negation) as well as plenty of cheap counters like Arcane Denial or Muddle the Mixture (which can also transmute into combo pieces). Good luck with your build! Feel free to post it in this thread if you want to. I can link to it in the OP.
On a different note, which graveyard hate card do you guys think is better: Nihil Spellbomb or Tormod's Crypt? I have been running Spellbomb for a while, but I'm starting to think that the extra mana isn't worth the potential to draw a card. I love the fact that Crypt is free to drop and activate. I know that Jason and ISB run Crypt in Jenara, but that's because Nihil Spellbomb is outside their color identity.
I would say the lands are pretty obvious changes that needed to happen. Farhaven Elf for Yavimaya Dryad is something I'm not really sure about. The most annoying part of Dryad is the double green mana cost, but the fact that it can grab a shockland and has forestwalk means it fixes mana better and carries a Sword well. I think it's worth it, but I'd like to get more opinions. Skyshroud was just kind of a flex spot and I decided having another extra turn effect was the best use of that spot. I'm not wealthy enough to own Temporal Manipulation or Capture of Jingzhou, so Walk the Aeons will have to do. On Disciple of Bolas, I'm not sure if it's worth losing a Swordable, Clampable body, although Necro does provide insane ammounts of "draw." I'm just worried that a lt of times there won't be a good option to sacrifice to Disciple, which could make it a dead card, especially after a wrath. The only time Necro is dead is when you have only 1 life.
Also, I'll be doing a big update of the Casual budget list. I just acquired a bunch of Dredge cards and Looters to help speed up the graveyard filling a little. The deck can definitely do some cool and fun things in a slower and more relaxed meta.
I don't really consider this deck to be that competetive, but today I jumped into a 4 player game on cockatrice titled "Competetive EDH" and took infinite turns on turn 3, causing all the other players to groan about how EDH is supposed to be more casual. I felt kind of bad, but the game was clearly intended to be "competetive."
So I guess I'm not really sure where this deck stands. I never really realized I had the potential to pull off something like that until it happened. I probably wouldn't normally have gone for it at all, but I was sick of my other decks getting stomped by powerful decks in games that were titled as "casual."
Anyways, to give a purpose to this post, both the main and budget decklists recieved updates. The budget list could use some Looter effects to go with the dredge plan. I welcome any and all suggestions.
No changes to report, but the OP now looks very different. I've been working on a primer in some Word documents for a while, and I finally finished, so the deck has been submitted to the Commander Primer Committee. Let's hope that it gets accepted.
Turn 3: Hinterland Harbor, swing with Primeval Titan grabbing 2 more lands, tap Watery Grave, Urborg, and Coffers for BBBBBB, Command Tower and Hinterland Harbor for UU, cast Walk the Aeons.
Extra Turn 2: I think I stopped using Prime Time at this point because I knew I had the game won. 14 mana available, cast Archeomancer, getting back Time Warp, cast Time Warp, cast Fierce Empath getting Deadeye Navigator.
Extra Turn 3: Cast Deadeye Navigator and pair with Archeomancer, blink to return Time Warp, cast Time Warp
Extra Turn 4: Blink, cast Time Warp, cast The Mimeoplasm as a 13/13 Skithiryx, give him Haste, kill one player.
Extra Turn 5: Blink, cast Time Warp, kill another player.
Extra Turn 6: Kill last player, GG.
It was cool to do it once, but it obviously wasn't a very exciting or interactive game, so I probably wouldn't go for it again that early even if I could.
Huzzah! My thread has been accepted by the Commander Primer Committee and is now an official Commander Primer! They had a few suggestions to make so I'll make the neccessary changes once I have more time.
Congrats on the Primer! It's great to see such a flavorful commander get a shiny new primer!
I had a deck q for you... Lord of Extinction and Hermit Druid. Neither are in your change log, so should I assume you've never sleeved up either here?
Thanks! I was really surprised that no one had done one before since he seems to be a very popular commander.
I haven't ever used Hermit Druid. Do you think my basic count is low enough for him to be effective? I'm also afraid that people would freak out and go after me immediately because of his reputation as a broken combo enabler.
As for Lord of Extinction, I had him in here a long time ago, before I started keeping track of changes. I'm not really sure how helpful he would be since I don't have a lot of mill-themed cards anymore. I suppose turning random utility creatures like Mulldrifter or Yavimaya Dryad into huge, evasive threats could be fun. I think maybe he merits a bit more testing with the new build.
If I do end up including both of these cards, I think Lightning Greaves might have a spot in here to enable quicker Hermit Druid activations as well as Haste for some fast Mimeoplasm kills.

Funny, Greaves was the other card I was about to suggest!
@Hermit Druid: I run 6 fetches, 3 cycling lands, and Deserted Temple (maybe more), so my basic land count is probably lower. Also, I was just honest with my playgroup(s) and let them know that he was used for dredge and not for dirty combos. They've never had an issue with him since.
@Lord of Extinction: winning is good. You don't have to build around this at all, because it's all yards, he's usually big enough to kill someone.

I could probably afford to swap out a couple of basics, but I'm trying to keep my CiPT lands at a minimum. I guess I could pick up Marsh Flats and Scalding Tarn to have more fetches. My LGS is crazy on prices for the Onslaught Duals, with Polluted Delta being $60, so I'm holding out for trades on them.
Lord of Extinction just seems really fun. I've been running him in the budget dredge version (he's the most expensive card lol) and he's been a beast. I really wish he at least had trample, but that's what The Mimeoplasm is for.
I was looking at your Jarad thread and saw that you were considering turning the deck into The Mimeoplasm instead. If you decide to do this, feel free to post up your decklist in here. Adding blue gives you a lot of powerful effects, especially draw and Time Warps, but it could also dilute the playstyle of your deck. I feel like Jarad and The Mimeoplasm do different enough things to warrant their own decks, but it's obviously up to you. I know I would have a hard time supporting a BG deck and GBU deck that were both graveyard based.

I'm actually not looking at converting it, I play both right now, but I am comparing the two to see which does their job better and more efficiently. I'll be honest, Mimeoplasm has been an absolute blast to play again. Jarad requires so much planning and thinking, not that 'Plasm doesn't, but to a much smaller scale.
Anyways, if I could add 4 cards here, it would be: Hermit Druid, LoE, Greaves, and Intuition.

I know what you mean. I was looking at building around Jarad once the set comes out, and it seems like you would get into a lot of situations where you have to make sure you can leave up mana for his ability. I guess a complex general leads to a complex decision tree for the deck. I only hope that the other new legendary creatures can live up to Jarad.
As for the 4 cards you listed, all of those should be easy to grab except for Intuition. I know how powerful it would be in here, so hopefully I can find it at a reasonable price point. Too bad Gifts Ungiven isn't legal. It would be absolutely nuts in this deck.

Me too. I'm already building UG Merfolk, lol... the Legend is in Gatecrash and I know nothing about her other than her art.

Well, Fact or Fiction is a fine replacement. But, imagine searching for any three cards and getting two of them right into the yard (even better with Survival of the Fittest out).
Oh, and another card to consider is Filth. You play both Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth and Primeval to fetch it. Making all your stuff unblockable wins games, I know that from experience.
EDIT:
One thought that I carry over from Jarad, is that Necropotence may be counter-intuitive to what you want to do here (this comes from someone who owns foil signed ones and would love nothing more than to play them!). Because it goes against the fundamental premise (yard, recursion, 'Plasm, etc), it can, at times, be hard to work with. Have you considered Rhystic Study?

@Intuition: Fact or Fiction is already in the list, and I really do want to get Intuition either way. I have a pretty solid pile of store credit right now so I could probably get it as a present for myself for completing the primer.
I've thought about Filth a little bit, but it seems so reliant on Urborg. Black isn't that popular in my group, so it would be mostly dead without Prime Time or another tutor. I wish Urborg was a Swamp while it was in your library...
I haven't gotten to test Necropotence much as it is a very recent addition. I agree that the part about exiling cards is against what the deck tries to do, but the ability to draw so many cards at once is incredible. I usually just use it to draw back up to 7 every turn, but, like I said, I haven't gotten to test it enough to see if it's worth it just for that. I ran Rhystic Study for a while, but it usually end up just being a tax effect. It was incredible in the first 3-5 turns, but after that it would never really draw me much. Maybe I should just add Disciple of Bolas back in, especially if I go with LoE. I've found that a bit of lifegain can be really useful because I tend to get attacked a lot with this deck. Swapping it in for Necro could certainly help with this problem. LoE and Disciple would actually be pretty sweet to grab off of Tooth and Nail.
Thanks for all the suggestions. I've definitely got more testing to do now. Also, what is your opinion of Avenger of Zendikar. I think he's the most boring finisher of all time and I'm thinking about cutting him. I also feel like he often eats a wrath before I can do anything with him because I don't have any global haste outlets.
Yeah, I knew that FoF was in, I was stating that it was a good Intution filler until you're able to secure a copy.
@Filth: black is by-far the most popular color in my meta(s) and I think is the #1 color in the deck database here. It can be reliant on Urborg, depending on the other three people you sit down with, but I don't think I've ever played a 4 person game without someone running black.
@Necropotence: I agree that the ability to draw back to 7 is awesome, but think about how much worse cards like Survival of the Fittest get with it. Rhystic Study or Disciple of Bolas would be a great fit (I personally like both). Also, Disciple can be copied by Body Double if it's in the yard.
@Avenger of Zendikar: I know what you mean by boring, but does actually win games (more than a few for me), and is stupid-good with Primeval (Tooth and Nail?) and Skullclamp. He's a lot better when you can pair Regal Force, but he's still VERY good here. One replacement you *could* try is Grave Titan, I do see a lot of decks run that, but Avenger does it faster, bigger, and is more synergistic with the rest of your list.

Trade thread on MOTL
I've only done it once, and I'll probably never do it again, but this is how I did it:
Opening Hand: Verdant Catacombs, Hinterland Harbor, Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth, Entomb, Reanimate, Time Warp, Walk the Aeons
Turn 1: Verdant Catacombs fetching Watery Grave, Entomb for Primeval Titan
Turn 2: Urborg, Reanimate on Primeval Titan fetching Cabal Coffers and Command Tower
Turn 3: Hinterland Harbor, swing with Primeval Titan grabbing 2 more lands, tap Watery Grave, Urborg, and Coffers for BBBBBB, Command Tower and Hinterland Harbor for UU, cast Walk the Aeons.
Extra Turn 1: swing with Prime Time again for 2 more lands, 12 mana total available, cast Time Warp, cast Fact or Fiction, ending up with Buried Alive and Fierce Empath. At some point previous I drew Archaeomancer. Cast Buried Alive for Skithiryx, the Blight Dragon, Terastodon and Consecrated Sphinx.

Agreed! They did a very nice job on it.
EDIT
Flavor Q: does Mimeoplasm absorb dead things and take on their abilities (i.e. Body Double-style), or does it kill them as it's absorbing their properties?
