Ooooh I didn't know Sage of Fables existed. That's pretty nice, it's a lot like Zameck Guildmage, but with colorless for the activation cost. I like a little redundancy when it comes to draw engines.
I recently started building one of these and see a lot of overlap (shocking, I know). I missed that Champion of Lambholt though, but no longer.
It also seems you are missing Mycoloth. Seems good both in combination with the Champion and in general. My deck also runs Ivy Lane Denizen with Ooze Flux and/or Spike Breeder for token generation.

Mycoloth is a possibility. I'm iffy on the devour without some other token generation, as you said. It is a good possibility and it could easily overwhelm a board very very quickly.

Yeah, the Devour could definitely backfire, but the beauty of it with Vorel is that it only takes one creature to set him up for greatness.
I'm also planning on including at least the green Myojin in mine - indestructible and casting creatures for free forever seems good. Naturally better if you can get a +1 counter onto him, as it is with the Cold-Eye Selkie
Edit: Have you considered Crowned Ceratok over the Shambler for the trample effect? Sapphire Drake also provides evasion to all the "little" ones

Hmm. Crowned Ceratok just may be better. Good call.
I too find that Mycoloth is lacking in a non-token deck as removals are usually aplenty in multiplayer EDH.
How is lux cannon working out for you guys? I haven't tried it yet, looking for inputs before I invest in getting a copy. With so many other cards screaming for Vorel's doubling attention, wouldn't this card be slow?
it is good. destroying one permanent each turn (or even one in each opponent's turn too) is always good.
But my deck has all the proliferation, has coretapper etc. so Vorel is not only token maker here.
Played several games with my list, very fun to play, could be either very slow and very explosive. Lo's of possibilities, lots of fun.
And the winner of the award Surprice of the year is : Thrummingbird!!!! great card. Noteless, but if hits even once, it is BIG. In early rounds it can hit twice or more before they see it as a threat.
Yeah Lux Cannon really shines when proliferate effects are aplenty in the deck. I can't really find a spot for it in my current decklist :(, need to find time to play more.
The top contender in my deck is Inkmoth Nexus lol. This is probably a meta-call but in my playgroup, effects like Cyclonic Rift, Planar Cleansing and Oblivion Stone are commonplace. Almost every deck that runs the colors will 100% run these cards. Inkmoth usually dodges all these wipes and is a very good investment for +1/+1 counters. Vorel can even double it when it is not a creature too.
I've been considering starting to play Commander for a month now, and have been browsing the forums to try and find a deck that suits my playstyle (and budget also) - and man do I like your deck build. Good job, it looks awesome, and I will likely try to build something similar as my first Commander deck ever. I just have a couple questions regarding the choice of counterspells.. Why are Spell Crumple and Hinder considered better than Dissipate? Are Counterspell and Simic Charm cards that could work in a deck like this? (I'm usually more of a control-player, hence why I'm considering including a couple extra control cards)
To further elaborate on countermagic, tuck spells (Hinder/Spell crumple) are amongst the best as they put the countered spell at the bottom of its owner's library. This is a very important deciding factor when you use the counter on an opponent's commander. With normal countermagic like dissipate/counterspell, usually the opponent can opt to put their commander back into the command zone, ready to recast it again. Tucking a commander becomes very important as it is usually hard for players to tutor back out their commander without them running B or G.
Another group of countermagic you might want to consider are spells like spelljack, desertion and gather specimens. These work wonders especially on players who treat their own graveyard like a secondary hand.
I am too running a Vorel deck with a slightly different approach, do check it out.
Last night I had a Progenitor Mimic copying my Master Biomancer.
The original clone had 2 counters on it. The next clone got 6 counters. The next clone got 14 counters. It was awesome.
Existenz: As Nekorin stated, Spell Crumple and Hinder are great for putting cards on the bottom of the library instead of in the graveyard (or back to the command zone). Nearly everyone has some fun tricks to pull with their commander and getting rid of that can sometimes win you the game. Dissipate is also good for removing from the graveyard... but the commander can just go back to the command zone.
I'm glad you like my list... and look forward to seeing what you come up with, be sure to link it so I can check it out.
I've browsed both Danissmus' and Nekorin's lists and stole ideas from them... we each have a bit different Vorel build, but there's a lot of overlap and any way you go with it you're going to have a great time.
I'll probably mostly be playing 1 vs 1, are there any specific cards that you guys have chosen not to play in your Vorel-lists due to the cards not being so great in multiplayer?
Thanks from the EDH-newbie!
I've played the deck Multi and 1v1 and havent really felt that any particular card was better or worse. Forgotten Ancient does get a significant boost in multiplayer, I suppose.
When I came in around the original Mirrordin block, I made a Sunburst deck. I loved attempting to get all 5 colors and then playing Suncrusher, Lunar Avenger, and whatever else I could get. Your decklist is pulling me back to those good ole days where I micro-manage all my dudes and my math fun when I attack.
Definitely gonna make the deck myself with some of my own personal touches. Thanks for posting this!

Made a decent shell of Vorel last week and played 1 game with it last Friday. It uses counters alright! Everyone at the table had a slow start but I plopped out some graft guys, and used hideaway to get Triskelion in play. Then things just got nuts when I started doubling his counters. And then people started ganging up on me! (the nerve!). Especially when I used Expedition Map to fetch Minamo. I just wanted Trik to have more than 20 counters! Why won't anyone let me do so!
First takeaways were 1) that I lacked a form of evasion needed to get damage in, especially when I had a big creature. 2) I didn't get much card draw or draw into any of it. and 3) I can remove a small number of graft or 'counter matters' cards to help 1 and 2 out. Having too many things and didn't have alot of mana to do everything was holding me back. Although Iw as using 5 mana to Vorel twice with Minamo, so idk. =p

Sounds good. Triskelion doubling sounds like a blast.
I've added in the Krasis that gives all creatures with a +1/+1 counter trample... helps push through the damage.
Just as a thought, you could include level up cards. Lighthouse Chronologist will easily be online. Kazandu Tuskcaller giving you 6 power everytime she taps would also be good.
That's stretching it, but if you're more casual, Myojin of Seeing Winds would be crazy with many Divinity Counters. DRAW ALL THE CARDS!

I've been working on a preliminary list over the last few days and the thought of pushing damage through has been on my mind. So far I added in the graft guys that give flying and trample, Phantom Nantuko, and champion of Lambholt to push damage through. I'm debating of adding in my spare copy of Overwhelming Stampede as well. It doesn't add counters, but it effectively doubles our damage output and grants trample from 1 turn. I've considered Cyclonic Rift as another means for the blowout win as well, but I don't have a 3rd copy, lol.
Just sticking my list into piles, I seem to have too much card draw, but I also haven't gave it a dry run yet. I currently have 6 counter based draw engines, and 4 spell based. Prime Speaker Zegana seems like a 'draw-your-deck' type of card in this deck, but she will be fun regardless.
How much hate are you running? I have 12 pieces in my pile and that may be too much. Propaganda seems like one we want here to give us time to set up, I also have 6 counters spells, including Draining Whelk, then Krosan Grip and Beast Within, rounded out with Infused Arrows, Tumble Magnet, and Suncrusher. I know for certain the aforementioned cyclonic rift wants to be here and suncrusher is likely overcosted.

Triskelion and his pal Triskelvus both seem like nice potential win cons for the deck, or at very least, quite solid burn/removal. I snagged a russian Triskelvus I'm interested to try.
Also, have you looked into the Avenger of Zendikar? He makes a ton of tokens that gain +1/+1 counters. He seems like he could single-handedly pull off a blowout win with some counter doubling assistance.

I orginally had Champion of Lambholt in the deck and I was pondering Phantom Nantuko earlier. I wrote it off for some reason or another and it didn't make the cut. But I'm going to go back in and revise my strategy for future games. Expedition Map is a almost auto-include only if you don't have enough for all your decks. I find its so useful finding Scrying Sheets, Emeria, [insert good nonbasic here]. It's just phenomial.
I need to redesign the deck later this evening. (I swear I'll post it today! X_x) In terms of removal there isn't much in the deck. I just threw a buncha cards in that dealt with +1/+1 counters and didn't give a damn for anything else. I got lucky I guess I was able to stick Trik and had a blast. But would love to fine tune the deck so I can have 6-10 good threats and have cards to back up and protect my evil machinations!

Counterspells seem especially important to the plan. We can get out of hand in a hurry, but need backup to keep wraths away and stop spot removal and tucks, especially on Vorel. The deck doesn't fold without Vorel, but it becomes much less good in a hurry.
What are your thought on Illusionists Bracers and Rings of Brighthearth to get more use out of Vorel and a few other cards we have. Also, with all the +1/+1 counters floating around, Experiment Krajj seems like a great backup to vorel to generate even more counters. I don't have one, but Sakishima, the Imposter could possibly fill this role as well.
I just decided to dig through gatherer and find every creature, artifact, or land that dealt with counters and wasn't in the TC's deck list. Here are the ones I thought might be useful:

Starred the ones I know are in my deck. Wanted to use Wickerbough Elder, but it only likes -1/-1 counters. Would nuts to have a Naturalize at the ready all the time. Pentavus is a boss (in limited at least). I have not drawn him, but he's just good. Needs mana, but is very versatile.

Ofc, counterspells are part of the game, but as most of my EDH decks run blue, I wanted to diviate from having a bunch of counterspells in this one. Personally choice, but may have 2-5 in there. Plasm Capture at least. Bracers and Rings are excellent additions if you wanna squeeze those in there. Experiment Kraj....ehh. How many Vorels do we really need? =p Playing Sakishima is an awesome idea tho. I have to do that....immediately!
One thing I was also decided upon was whether to make Vorel have an artifact subtheme. With Pentavus, Trik, and Triskelavus, Modular artifacts, charge counter artifacts, Energy Chamber, [other artifact shenanigans] it's possible. All depends on personal preference.

Mycoloth is bad in a non-token heavy deck because he ends up just eating removal before he does anything, so you get 2 for 1ed.

Thanks for the list Mathochism!
