My plans to win are mostly based on Armageddon/Ravages of war:
Creatures +armageddon
Planeswalker +armageddon
Entreat the angels on 7mana
Please let me know what you think. I am pretty undecided for the stoneforge + jitte and sword of feast and famine, i ve seen a lot of decklists that are not running them.
Best regards
Michele
Hey! Sorry for being tardy to the party (eh, yeah, lame expression I know, but it's almost 4am @_@) I've been busy with school and work, so I've not had much time to respond to MTGS stuff. Luckily that'll be over in a few weeks.
Anyways, as for your deck, I realize it's aimed at 1v1, and I'm really not very familiar with the banlist for that, so if I recommend something that isn't legal, just disregard it. I also have pretty much no recent experience in Duel EDH, so I'm really not familiar with the meta. (Hint: this is my disclaimer in which I state I might not be very useful).
I notice that you've got a lot of conditional counters (i.e., counters instants and sorceries, like Negate, or if an opponent pays 1 or X or something). Even if it's Duel EDH, I'm not sure how effective these are. Especially since you're not running many prison pieces or tax effects, you're opponents will have available mana, as you're not forcing them to over-expend it to cast spells. I can imagine that any Green rampy deck would be able to outpace this with fairly little trouble.
Also, if you're going for spell-based win-cons (Armageddon + [insert card here]), then using Stoneforge Mystic and Sword of Feast and Famine dilutes the power of the deck. It would be better to have tutors (maybe not Mystical, if it's banned) but probably Long-Term Plans or any suitable Transmute card. That way, you can search up your win-cons. Plus, SoFaF is the only SFM target you're running; if you draw the Sword before the Mystic, the Mystic becomes a dead card in the deck. Worse, she might end up a dead draw when you need it the most. I'd think very carefully about these two cards...
Besides what I've mentioned, I'm not sure how much I can comment on your deck. It varies greatly from mine, and it's playstyle is also very different. But! Best of luck to you! Please let me know how it goes.
Just wanted to stop in and say thanks for the primer MadHatter! I have played a few games with your list and found it to be a very fun deck for me, as it suits my preferred play-style. I will be battling at my LGS tonight with my revised version of the deck for the first time and I would like to hear your thoughts on my changes. Here is my current decklist on TappedOut.
I made the following changes from the Primer list:
-Brainstorm - I found this card to be weak in EDH without a lot of shuffle effects
-Isochron Scepter - I was getting 2-for-1ed with this a lot
-Memory Lapse - I just needed to cut something to make room and I think this is my weakest counter
-Dream Cache - I actually like this better than Brainstorm, but there are better ways to draw cards
-Wall of Denial - I run enough board wipes that I usually don't need the early blocker, needed to cut a creature for Monastery Mentor
+Polluted Delta - I kept getting stuck on lands when I didn't get an early Land Tax, and this adds a U & W source with only 1 card, plus synergy with Jace and Top
+Sapphire Medallion - Pushing the cost reduction theme hard
+Copy Artifact - A cheap way to copy someone's early Gilded Lotus or even another copy of a creature you cloned with Phyrexian Metamorph, plus it's still an enchantment!
+Jace's Sanctum - Still pushing the cost reduction, with enchantment synergy, and I have found Scry to be really good in this deck
+Monastery Mentor - Trying this guy out as a more proactive way of closing the game out. Works well with Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite and my list runs 50 cards which trigger him.
Anyway, that's all I've got for now. Excited to hear people's input on my changes. Thanks in advance.

Crack Polluted Delta, fetching Hallowed Fountain, makes it a white source as well. Maybe some day I'll pick up a Tundra too. Bottom line, when checking out my deck's overall mana sources, it is realistic to call Polluted Delta both a blue and white source.
if you were to take out the omniscience combo.. What cards would you sub in instead to keep with the control feel? I think i may need to swap it out if i build this, but i don't want to put in cards that don't contribute to the over all goal of winning.

The main differences? I cut out the Enchanted Evening combo, as it's too risky in my playgroup (Merciless Eviction gets slung around easy) and in its place I run a single infinite turn combo. I also have a Linvala, who is brand new to the deck as of the time of this post. There's still some utility lands I need but most non-land cards are rigidly set in the deck.

I started with the stock list as well and initially found that omniscience combo didn't fit well either because if i combo off i like winning. What i ended up doing instead of getting rid of it was actually skimping on other cards i didn't like as. much and squeezed in a Whole lot more draw spells and now it works great. I'm at work on duty for the weekend but gonna post a list when i can or when i get home.

Would love some feedback. Not sure what direction I need to go at this point. I beat a well built wizard deck 2:1 The other day,I prefer to play this deck 1v1
Wow, I love the deck! Puts everything that I love about control with added prison bonuses. I've been looking to use GAAF for awhile, now might be the time! My playgroup doesn't play commander very often though :(, any tips for converting this into a 60 card, (casual) deck?
I don't know what your meta is like, but Rule of Law effects and things like Thalia, Guardian of Thraben are so good against the spellslinger decks that dominate the EDH format. Eidolon of Rhetoric even has the upside of being an enchantment!
I would say you run enough counterspells to make Baral, Chief of Compliance an excellent choice. Additionally, if you want a more reliable wincon than destroying all permanents, you can run Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir + Knowledge Pool combo to prevent your opponents from playing the game, eventually winning with teferi beats. You could run both combos, cutting maybe Frost Titan and Dream Cache (which seems exceptionally bad-- why not just run divination if you want card draw that badly?). Future Sight, Sensei's Divining Top, and Foundry Inspector/Helm of Awakening also draw your deck if you want that kind of combo.
Wow, I honestly didn't expect a reply this quickly, thanks! Baral, Chief of Compliance is definitely a great card in the deck. I'm also thinking of maybe putting in Erayo, Soratami Ascendant for a pseudo lock, with all of the cheap counterspells and such I think it will be fairly easy to flip, (Gigadrowse seems pretty reliable to do that, while also tapping down lands or potential attackers). And of course if you have a flipped Erayo, along with Rule of Law or Eidolon of Rhetoric well... isn't that nice! (For you). I've run Dream Cache in a few of my other prison/control decks, and it's actually fairly useful, particularly if you're trying to set up a prison lock and you need one more combo piece so you tutor with Long-term plans and then play the cache: there it is!
The last combo sounds funny, but it's a little too gimmicky and doesn't quite fit the deck that I'm trying to build. (I find combos requiring 3 cards or more to be quite difficult to play, and I don't think it's worth it taking up that many cards slots just to be able to draw a ton of cards; look at it this way, the combo requires 3 cards with a total of 7-9 mana, well if I am trying to combo, I'll probably have at least 3 of each, if not four in the deck. I just don't think taking up 12 slots is worth it for a 7 mana combo that ultimately wouldn't do a bunch, after all, I can only play so many counterspells a turn, though [card]Laboratory Maniac[card] would be an option at that point, I guess).
I haven't yet decided on draw cards, obviously instant/sorcery spells like Divination would synergize with Baral, Chief of Compliance, but Rhystic Study would net either more cards or slow down the opponents in the long run. I'm working on a decklist right now, I'll post it here when it's mostly complete.

Just an FYI, Erayo is banned in EDH. At least in Multiplayer. I don't know about 1v1.
Huh, didn't know that, thanks for the tip! I do have Erayo in my EDH deck, I guess I'll take it out when I play in official games. That being said, the discussion that you quoted was me asking for help converting this deck into a casual 60 card deck, so Erayo would be fine for that.

As far as win cons go, though Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir & Knowledge pool are probably more reliable, Aura Thief & Enchanted Evening sound like a lot more fun to kill everyone with their own stuff, or just take all of their lands and poke them to death with Baral, Chief of Compliance and GAAF.
