Nissa, Worldwaker (4/10) - I want to like a planeswalker that can untap four lands or fetch any number of basic land cards and put them on the battlefield, but turning lands into creatures indefinitely is a good way to get your manabase blown up.
Here's a fun combo M15 introduces:
Nissa, Worldwaker + Ral Zarek/Tezzeret the Seeker + The Chain Veil = Infinite activation of any Planeswalker in any one turn. The simplest execution of this combo is with Ral Zarek as you set his loyalty arbitrarily high, then ultimate him each turn until everyone scoops or is dead. I'm working on RUG Superfriends where I think the room is more flexible for this kind of interaction (because more room for more forests in the mana base), but it's worth mentioning here as well.

That's not bad idea, depending on your meta. I can usually deal with my opponents by nuking their creatures, but a good indestructible blocker would be nice sometimes.
It's true that Nissa allows this to go infinite due to untapping lands, but even without, I should be able to afford multiple activations, and if I'm not winning at that point, I'm already in trouble.
And can I just say WHAT THE CRAP!!!! about the new Teferi? If that really does what I think it does, that's insane.
The emblem says you can activate loyalty abilities whenever you could activate an instant, and given that you can activate a loyalty ability once a turn, does that mean you can activate them on every single player's turn? Or will they adjust the rule to only once per round?)
[EDH] It's built to be a casual format and to a specific vision, and if you don't like the vision, there's nothing wrong with that, but it's not going to change to accommodate everyone. Big tent is not a goal.
That's nuts. Especially when Doubling Season lets him ultimate the turn he comes into play. Which is totally worth losing him for.
You know, I've been complaining for a while about all of the planeswalker hate they've been printing lately, but I have to admit that they've really given superfriends a boost with The Chain Veil, Ajani Steadfast, and now Teferi. Can't wait to see the other four planeswalkers. And yes, I'm in the group hoping for a Serra planeswalker that spawns out tokens.
I want to optimize the mana-base even more and trick it out to ramp up faster, so I am looking for suggestions (budget minded if possible, as I am not buying anything and will have to trade - I've only spent $16 on this deck, and I intend to keep it that way). I'm usually fine on colors but often 1-2 mana short of the quantity I wish I had.
I've been paying serious attention to this, and I was considering cutting the manlands because they come into play tapped, but my last game reminded me of why they are in here. In a game against two Sliver Overlord decks and one Zombie tribal deck, almost everything I dropped got killed. The others proceeded to beat each other senseless, allowing me to secure the win with an Alchemist's Refuge-assisted end of turn Hallowed Burial and an alpha strike of manlands pumped by Garruk. Is this worth them coming into play tapped? It was that game, but most of the time I don't animate them.
I do need to add Farseek - it's a card I've neglected because I thought it put the card in hand. I guess reading is important.
With some of the untap abilities (cough Teferi) I think I should aim for a mana rock that produces more than one mana - preferably the color of my choice. What would people suggest? Gilded Lotus is a thing, but I have to get to 5 before I can cast that.
Also, is Maelstrom Nexus worth considering? It could get me free spells if it manages to stay on the board, but what if it finds a copy of a planeswalker already out? That could be a wasted cascade.
And speaking of copies of planeswakers, I need to cut a Garruk. With three versions of him in the deck, I've had way too many games where I have one (or even two) stuck in my hand because I didn't want to cast him and lose the one I already had in play. Where is the Mirror Gallery for planeswalkers? I think I'll be dropping be Garruk, Primal Hunter. And probably Chandra Nalaar, as well. Which is actually good because there are so many cards I want to add.
Hey, this is my first post on here.
I play a deck similar to yours and I'm contemplating adding Garruk Apex Predator to the deck. I like everything about him except the CMC. Seems to be a powerhouse if you can make him stay on the board. I'm also running Genesis Wave in my deck which can make you drop 4-5 walkers in one turn depending on the mana you sink into it.

Garruk, Apex predator is definitely on my list of cards to acquire. I agree that he's awesome despite his mana cost.
On an unrelated note, I played against someone else's superfriends this past week and discovered quite a weakness. He killed his own Academy Rector to fetch and drop Omniscience, followed by Doubling Season, Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker, Elspeth, Knight Errant, Karn Liberated and some other cards. The board looked bleak to everyone but me - I had 11 lands and a Mindslaver in hand. As you can imagine, the tables turned, and he was left with one defenseless planeswalker who dies before he got another turn. So, yeah, awesome superfriends boardstate turns into a liability when Mindslavered. Shroud or counter is about the only thing that could have stopped that (at least until Teferi comes out).

To be fair, Mindslaver is a problem for a lot of decks (I speak from experience from creating a lock with Glissa, the Traitor + Forbidden Orchard with my Glissa EDH. The question about this liability (in the boarder sense of Mindslaver: target player effects) is is there enough flexibility in the deck to run Leyline of Sanctity, Witchbane Orb, etc. I admit myself I like the idea of people not being able to steal my Kozilek with Bribery anymore, but this sounds more like a meta call than a fatal flaw that must be addressed immediately because giving yourself Hexproof doesn't always help.
Running counters like you say, would also be useful, but I dunno, counters in this deck has not been consistent for me. It's a space issue again though.
I totally get the space issue. There's so many things I want to cram in this deck, and every time I get a new card, I have a hard time figuring out what to cut. And no, there isn't enough call in my meta to run hexproof/shroud/counters.
"Scion of the Ur-Dragon – Great for a dragon deck, but again lacking synergy with a planeswalker deck."
Maybe so, but probably the best option for your plan B. Combine him with two more dragons for a one turn win against someone. Less valuable in a group game but I've always been partial to the old Full English Breakfast deck and this is basically that kind of combo.
Play Scion, pass
Attack with Scion, activate Scion fetching the Molten Dragon dude that you can pump up for Phyrexian mana (use life to make him 11/4), Activate Scion again to fetch the black Infect dragon.
Win.
Personally, I think all decks should have a viable Plan B an this one is very good. I play it in my Hermit Druid deck and get quite a few wins from it in cut-throat competitive scenarios.

Some people like to win MtG matches in the Red Zone. I prefer to win the way God intended: on the stack.
While that is a brutal combo, I don't think I'd call it a reliable plan B, as that combo requires that both dragons be in your library - as soon as you draw either one of them, the combo is off. I'm a huge fan of Scion, but I don't think this deck has enough free spots to provide him the support he needs.
I've found it to be pretty consistent as a Plan B, especially as you can always brainstorm back one of the pieces with Jace TMS if necessary. But you have to go with what you are comfortable playing and it does occupy two MD slots. Also, your Plan A looks pretty slow, so the chances of you drawing the other dragon is a lot higher so it might end up being Plan A by default and ruining your whole game plan. Still, making popel deal with Dragons and then killing them with massive PW advantage is strategically sound.
Enjoy your deck. It looks like fun.

Not sure what commander is...if it's a 100 card singles only deck, then I'd add the rest of the planeswalkers with some more split lands, those proliferating artifacts, if the heavy planeswalker theme is too much then I'd probably tone it down and add more Myr's of various kinds and Eldrazi...just for fun. And maybe a ***** pile of X spells.
Btw, is there a couple cards that could transform planeswalkers into something else, so that I can do something to the effect of using planeswalker powers as instants?
Hey nice list! How do you feel about Assemble the Legion as not only an alternate win-condition, in combination with Doubling Season, but also Skullclamp fodder and chumping for planeswalkers?
play Skyshroud Claim over shard convergence, it's the same cost and speed but is more accel for you, if you're rocking the shock lands it fixes your colours
It's too late tonight, but I will be doing a fairly big update this weekend. I was finally able to trade for an Ajani Steadfast! I can't wait to put him in. I'll also be adding a Mirari's Wake, Farseek, and Sterling Grove. Just need to decide what to cut.
Btw, is there a couple cards that could transform planeswalkers into something else, so that I can do something to the effect of using planeswalker powers as instants?
No need - there will soon be one card that does it by itself, and his name is Teferi. Seriously, check out the Commander2014 spoiler. That card will be mine.
Hey nice list! How do you feel about Assemble the Legion as not only an alternate win-condition, in combination with Doubling Season, but also Skullclamp fodder and chumping for planeswalkers?
Assemble the Legion certainly has synergy, not only for the reasons you listed, but also because I could proliferate the muster counters to accelerate it. Unfortunately, at five mana I want something that affects the board right now rather than something I have to build up to. A more enchantment heavy build may find it very useful.
play Skyshroud Claim over shard convergence, it's the same cost and speed but is more accel for you, if you're rocking the shock lands it fixes your colours
Yep - shock lands make this the superior card because ramp is better than just going into the hand. I personally prefer Farseek, which I just acquired, because despite only ramping for one, it can happen sooner and allow me to ramp into a four-drop planeswalker rather than having to wait for four open mana. Plus, it can get a non-Forest shock, and if I'm casting a green spell, odds are I already have green.
I've been toying with building superfriends for a long time and your thread has been very educational and the opening post is extremely well written (i'm not sure why this hasn't been promoted to a Primer). I'm excited to see this weekend's post. One question... If you had zero budget limitations, is there a list of card that you would put in here that you don't have now (that aren't banned)?
Thanx, I heard about that blue planeswalker, that new planeswalker will be sick, my kids tremble in fear of my planeswalker deck, running joke in my house that dad cheats at magic cuz he uses the super friends lol, great game magic is... Too bad my kids don't use counter spell (teehee) then again I never did tell them about counter magic lol
Phyrexian Metamorph very nearly made it in, but I couldn't figure out what else to cut. As is, I want to increase the planeswalker count possibly as high as 25 (we shall see what goodies the Commander 2014 decks bring). I'm going to play it with the new list and see if I can cut one or two of the non-ramping mana fixers.
I was sad to see some of these go, but I lowered the mana curve and gained extra utility. Acidic Slime is great, but Aura Shards gives all of my creatures that ability (nearly) and isn't nerfed by Humility. Myojin and Relic both interacted with proliferate, but both were slow. Sterling Grove gives my other enchantments protection and can even tutor whichever one I need. And Mirari's Wake doubles my mana (future Teferi tech) and gives me an edge when Humility is out.

I actually applied for primer status about a year ago. The primer committee requested that I make some structural changes, and I started to, but then life intervened. Since then, I have changed jobs, purchased a house, and moved to a different town. Now that things are stabilizing, I'm hoping that I can begin posting regularly again and reapply in a little while.
Zero budget limitation wishlist? Academy Rector, Enlightened Tutor, and original dual lands. This would make my deck more consistent and open up a few mana fixing slots.
Superfriends is fun. Any particular reason you're not running Sol Ring?
