I used to run doomblade and go for the throat but there were too many times I couldn't use them when I needed them. Two cards I recommend instead are rend flesh and eyeblight's ending. I have yet to encounter a creature while playing that they couldn't target. They make a world of difference when you have a steel hellkite or a grave titan proceeding to attack you. Sure they cost 1 more but it has never been a problem.

There are things like the Kamigawa dragons and generals like Nath that can blank these removal spells but I'd probably run Rend Flesh over Doomblade. I think I'd run Ashes to Ashes over Rend Flesh because it exiles. So cutting Doomblade for Ashes to Ashes seems reasonable. Go for the Throat kills just about everything you'd want to kill though so I think that one is a keeper.

There's also Chill to the Bone, which misses exactly one relevant creature (Rimescale Dragon), though it costs 4. Still, versatility and re-usability trump cost in EDH. That's why the terror creatures (Bone Shredder, Shriekmaw, etc) are better than the terror spells, because there's plentiful recursion around. Try cards like Slaughter and Snuff Out instead.

For a lot of decks that would be true however this one is set up similar to my monoblack deck and has almost no creature recursion so it is generally better to stick with the cheaper, more flexible spells.
People started making 5 color decks dependent too much on duels. Sundering Titan needed to come back. I am testing Mimic Vat out. I think it might be good.
I am thinking of adding voltaic key and Innocent blood. I want to get ride of plague wind. It really doesn't do anything that great for 9 mana. For 9 mana I want to win the game. See Time Stretch. The only problem with innocent blood is that it costs a lot to foil :(.
Side note to those of you who like to look at pimpage: I will be getting all my snow-covered swamps full art done. It will take a while but I found the artist and we have come up with a payment plan. You should be seeing some done within a month.
Well the only creature you'd want to sacrifice to it would be maga to reuse his ability once you have a lot of mana. I used it in my maga deck which has even less creatures than yours and it was great. That's also the only reason I ran innocent blood over fleshbag marauder because it allowed me to sac and reuse maga. Otherwise innocent blood wasn't that great because when you have so few creatures and theyre all behemoths that cost a ton of mana and you draw innocent blood with one on the board it's basically a dead draw unless you have maga out to sac and reuse.

I hear it is also good if you have Sundering Titan out ;]. I also have tried phyrexian tower. I never found it useful. -shrugs- Thank you for the suggestion. I guess innocent blood isn't a card I would want. Oh well. Thanks for your help sir.
I have been thinking about this lately. Donald had I think jokingly brought it up in another one of my threads. Make a my Oona, Queen of the Fae deck mono black. Now that did sound funny at the time. But I now think about it. What does Maga offer me that Oona doesn't offer me? I think I may want to test this concept out and see how it goes. Let me know your thoughts.
I was being totally serious about monoblack Oona, my friend has a monoblack Oona list that he plays. You can use some cool stuff like Memory Plunder & Dire Undercurrents but the deck setup is going to be different. You need Contamination (even though it shuts off coffers), Skullclamp and some other stuff that cares about tokens like Gravepact and sac outlets. His list is here if you want to look at it.
Oh I wasn't going to change it that much. I like all the cards you mentioned. I just was using a different mind set. I only normally cast Maga when I can kill someone. This normally happens with infinite mana. Oona uses infinite mana to greater effect than Maga does. I have to really consider this and test some things out. I really really really like that I can use skullclamp. Like to the point of not needing porn. lol.
The only reason I didn't stick with Oona was for the fact that painter servant got ban.
They are very cool but I must point out you spelled obedience with an A rather than a E.
Ugh. FML. Well I will just make new ones I guess. whatever. I needed to make a new mana crypt. I also need higher resolution pics. Wish I was better with photoshop :/

The thing to keep in mind is it's a snowball effect, you'll be casting Oona more frequently because she's much cheaper than Maga so it makes sense to use things like Contamination and Skullclamp because she'll be in play a lot more. This in turn makes guys like Bloodghast more appealing and leads you down the road of less sweepers and more guys which leads to graveyard creature recursion being more appealing. I think an optimal monoblack Oona list will look quite a bit different than monoblack Maga, with Maga you don't have to include a single card just for him, everything is just good monoblack big mana cards but Oona needs some more building around because she'll see more play. I don't thing 1 is better than the other, they are just different with different strengths and weaknesses.
Yeah. I thought about that a lot today as I cursed myself for most likely failing my a&p final. I don't think I will do it. Mainly for that reason. I do think I will be making another oona deck though. Man, I really really like mono black huh?
I'm not personally a big fan of Consume Spirit and Drain Life in multiplayer edh, so I wouldn't mind seeing them go. I also feel that Sign In Blood and Night's Whisper do too little for the cost of filling up a cardslot.
I see you're playing Ambition's Cost, but no Ancient Craving ?
Also, have you ever considered Moonlight Bargain ? I like it due to its instant speed; and that you get to choose what to keep and what to discard. True, it has the price of 2 life for 1 card, but if you wanted to; you could dump all 5 cards in the graveyard. It's especially neat when you want to fill your graveyard with reanimation targets.
Yeah I am feeling the same way with you on the drain lifes that only target one player.
The cheap draw spells are great actually in my experience with them. They are never a dead draw for me. I am also trying to reduce the mana curve in this deck.
I want to put Ancient Craving in. I 1) Don't have it, 2) Not willing to pay $6 dollars for a card that should cost much much less. If you knew me or read some of the other posts in her(this isn't supposed to sound sarcastic I promise) you would see that I take great pride in this deck. The fact that it is another card that can't be foiled is a bummer. I really do want the card though. I will have to see if my friend has it.
I have considered Moonlight Bargain. I came to the conclusion that at 2 life a card it is getting kinda steep. Also I only have one reanimation spell in the deck. -shrugs-. I don't really do much reanimating. Especially not out of my own graveyard.
I think this deck list is getting really really tight guys. I am running out of cards that I can take out just to test with lol. You guys here have been a huge help in my rationalization process. Keep up the good work. Everyone of you has given great advice. Even if I do shoot a lot of it down now a days. Please don't think that I don't value your advice. I love it actually.
I plan on taking out steel hellkite for karn liberated. Mostly because hellkite can't always hit the permanent you want because it was either removed or blocked. I use both sign in blood and night's whisper for the reasons you mentioned. They are great at for hitting early land drops in such a mana intensive deck. I would imagine they work well being the top card you put on your library after you've stacked it from insidious dreams.
Edit how has ill-gotten gains been? I know you combo it with Leyline of the void but has it ever backfired? I'm thinking about using it with Leyline and just as a way to retrieve combo pieces.

If I cast it I am winning the game that turn. It is just another Yag Will. That is, if I don't have leyline out. I think I might just try that out. Thanks for the suggestion.
I see that you don't play Bubbling Muck, and the absence of that card is quite rare in Maga. Is it something you've tried but found wanting? Would you like to share your thougts on it? As a fellow Mono-black enthusiast, it's a card that's been in and out of my Maga and Drana decks so many times I've actually lost count.
I suppose your points about Sign in Blood/Night's Whisper being low on the cmc are valid. As for Ancient Craving, most vendors take 2-4 bucks for it, depending on set (I buy alot from Trollandtoad, give them a peek ). And if its whitebordered, well... Surely you can alter it to look respectable
Bubbling muck is a fine card. I won't hold it against someone if they do. I just don't find the card that amazing. I do find my self wanting more. I anticipate that my mana doublers will be destroyed. I count on that. I like that they draw the attention away from my combo pieces. I don't need Gauntlet, lens, or the others to win. They help. But they aren't intricate in my path to victory. I just like that they draw out the hate to something that I don't really care if they destroy. Also if a card keeps going in and out of your deck you might want to consider if it really is worth it. I find that if a card keeps moving in and out it really isn't that worth it and you can always do better. Think of it as a girlfriend. If you just keep going back to her and dumping her when you find something better, is she really the one?
Phyrexian Obliterator is not going in. I see it as an aggroish card. My deck is control. Life's Finale is a card that will help your opponent out more than it will you. A lot of decks circle around abusing the yard. I really would rather help me than someone else.
These are just my thoughts. I am not saying Phyrexian Obliterator could not go in the deck. I am just saying I can't think of a time where I thought I would really like to deal 5 points of damage to my opponent.
