This is my mono black EDH deck. I love Mono Black Control. This seems to pretty much do everything I would ever wish a deck could do. It is a lot of fun to play.
Heyo :). Looks pretty awesome, how the planar portal treating you? Black doesn't seem to lack the tutor power to need it that much, but that just me :). The other one is Vedalken Orrery. Any how, thanks for posting the list, giving me some good ideas
EDIT: After a more intense look into it, perhaps more targeted removal would be good. Such as Rend Flesh, Chill to the Bone, Ashes to Ashes[/CARD]. They are the normal suggested ones

I like vedalken orrery for cute tricks like flashing in one of my many board sweepers. It also has some pretty cute combos that if you get them off you feel all awesome inside(in a jerky kind of way). But I guess it would be the thing to go for the Rings.
I like Planar Portal because it gives me a consistent tutor.
I found that in multiplayer targeted removal is not as good as some of that board sweeping action. The only spot removal spell I could consider are Ashes to Ashes or that one with buyback.
And no problem. This deck has been a work in progress and I am even almost done foiling it out. Can't wait to get me my FTV: Relics.
Bunch of comments haha. This looks a lot like my first EDH deck when I built Maga about a year ago, minus the Eldrazi and whatnot. Over the course of many games I've realized that there are a few cards that look much better on paper than they actually are in practice, so let me outline those for you. Your experiences might differ from mine or anyone else's, so take everything on these forums with a grain of salt.
Platinum Angel was like the first card I put into every deck. The reality is that she's not very good and really doesn't do anything special for the deck. She dies to everything and even takes collateral damage from all the artifact hate that's running around these days. If you're running her for flavor or whatnot, go ahead, but I haven't had any success with her.
Avatar of Woe is another one everyone likes to run. Truthfully she's just so slow and comes down at a time when she's not even needed. I might be jaded because I play Xiahou Dun, where I can find removal and reuse it whenever, but even when I was playing Maga she always came online too late. A good replacement for her would be Drana, Kalastria Bloodchief - she doubles as repeatable removal AND beats for the win.
Darksteel Forge is another spell that comes down way too late. Yes it is pretty awesome when it does hit play, but it's the mana cost that becomes a huge turn off for me. Maybe you play in a metagame where there's less artifact hate, but my Lens and Gauntlets get blown up left and right, so the forge barely helps out.
Loxodon Warhammer is, once again, another card I see in every EDH deck known to man. Completely unimpressed by it here, seeing as you have only a small cast of creatures you'd actually want to throw into the red zone. Might I suggest something a little more deadly: Nightmare Lash has been pretty good for me.
Death Cloud rarely is black ever ahead enough that they can abuse this card. Inherently you need more swamps in order to turn all of your mana on, be it for Coffers or your mana-doubling artifacts. It's both counter intuitive and a card that I've consistently not liked seeing in my black deck, since there was never a proper opportunity to use it.
Ted makes a good point about targeted removal and I think you should have at least one or two sitting around in case you need something to die NOW or want to keep some creatures that would be destroyed by a sweeper; you could definitely go with an edict or two versus other Eldrazi. One of the main problems I see with this list is that the curve is much too high. You should try adding some more sifter cards, such as Sign in Blood, Night's Whisper, Ambition's Cost to help replenish your hand and dig for answers, as well as Wayfarer's Bauble or Mana Crypt to help you speed things out. As of now I bet you open with hands that have huge spells and not enough mana to cast them. I also think you should run more tutors, since they're what make black black. Diabolic Tutor and Insidious Dreams are popular choices that I approve of.
The list still looks great and it must be a blast to play. I just know first hand how frustrating playing on such a high curve could be. If you bring it back down a notch or two I guarantee you'll have much more fun.

I agree with Avatar, Angel, and Death Cloud. Those cards were the next cards to leave the deck. Drana was the card to take over the Angels spot. But I am trying to foil out this deck so I have to wait to find a foil version of her. I could see me putting Sign in Blood and Night's Whisper in. Just wish there was a good cheap removal spell besides Chill to the Bone. I mean Rend Flesh is ok I guess. I guess Death Cloud goes out for Sign in Blood. What about the other three cards. I guess I can take out avatar of woe for something. I just feel silly taking out avatar for spot removal.
I'm not sure if I understand this combo.
I assume you wish to use Sorin Markov's "Target opponent's life total becomes 10" ability with Wound Reflection in play, but I don't think that works. There is no "loss of life", but a "becomes" instead, not depicting loss of life, but simply it is.

Actually, the DCI ruling on that is that the opponent loses or gains life enough for their life total to become 10. For example if that person is at 15 life, they will lose 5 life.
For a player's life total to become 10, what actually happens is that the player gains or loses the appropriate amount of life. For example, if the targeted opponent's life total is 4 when this ability resolves, it will cause that player to gain 6 life; alternately, if the targeted player's life total is 17 when this ability resolves, it will cause that player to lose 7 life. Other cards that interact with life gain or life loss will interact with this effect accordingly.
What about the other three cards. I guess I can take out avatar of woe for something. I just feel silly taking out avatar for spot removal.
Darksteel Forge is okay, but I would suggest something like Guardian Beast if you want insurance that will hit play in a timely manner. Otherwise, using cards like Nightmare Incursion or more deadly discard, like Persecute, can go a long way to protect your artifacts. Actually the combo you have with Nev's Disk and Forge - I actually cut Disk a long time ago cause it just wasn't pulling its weight.
I've already made suggestions for the other cards in the original post, but as for replacing Avatar of Woe with removal, I don't think that's silly at all. Spot removal is still a very important part of EDH, especially if you need to play politically or need a quick, cheap answer to something. Your list seems to be lacking in the edict department, so I'd suggest running Chainer's Edict or Fleshbag Marauder.

Ok playing the deck with the changes MCR suggested make the feel of this deck and how it plays now is like cutting butter with a lightsaber. It is just a joke. Of course it doesn't always win. It just makes the deck more consistent and just makes everyones time playing against me more enjoyable.
Keep these good suggestions coming guys. I love hearing new ideas.
I took out Corrupt for night's Whisper. So far I have not been disappointed. This deck just keeps getting better and better. The next card to leave is going to be Avatar of Woe. I really would like to have avatar be replaced with a creature that is relevant more so than herself.
How well does your deck work against a bribary/counterspell player? Seems like you'd get wrecked.
Boseiju, Who shelters All helps against counter spells. Bribery hurts any deck that runs the legendary Eldrazi.
Do you have a suggestion in mono-black, besides that artifact that makes me discard my hand to counter target non-creature spell, that can help against counter spells?
My Drana build does not want to miss a Swamp land drop. I can't imagine wasting my land drops to play a Strip Mine over and over. Sure its great one on one but you can't mana denial everyone in multiplayer. People hate land destruction too, so I can imagine you become a huge target.
Between the 3 mana doublers, the 2 Coffers, Vesuva and the Temple your swamps are worth a lot of mana each.
Even if you do use Urborg to make the LD lands become swamps it still loses you a land and with Gauntlet of Power your giving your opponents a nice mana boost.
Reliquary Tower and Ivory Tower. I get what your doing with Necropotence here. Is it stable? Is it worth using your tutors for these cards? The 2 Towers are pretty lackluster without a Necropotence out.
Death Cloud hurts these black mana ramp decks a lot. Why not run Drain Life or Soul Burn for another X damage spell? They both gain you life as well.
With so many key lands, I can't belive your not running Expedition Map!
I added Temporal Extortion to my Drana deck awhile ago and its tons of fun. People who know you run Wound Reflection will just give the black deck an extra turn. Its so good.
Speaking of Wound Reflection, have you tried Blood Tribute? Even if you don't have the reflection out if will get your opponents dangerously close to death from a single casting of Maga.
Death Cloud was always an odd card to play because MBC doesn't like to lose its greatest source of mana: Swamps in play. You're rarely so far ahead that you can just run this out there. The ONLY time it's actually advantageous to use this card is if it will kill everyone at the table besides you. Too bad that's a rare occasion; even if you were in that situation, there's tons of better options.

You are very right. It was never usefull except in extreame situations that like never came up. I am much more happy with the build as of now. Though I am considering removing the strip mine and wasteland.
Reasons: Boseiju, Who Shelters All- Just never was a wanted land. I never thought,'Hey I could really use Bosiju, who shelters all now.'
Even against blue decks.
Lightning Greaves- It was always just a dead draw. It was more of a win more card. The only creature I would ever want to equip it to would be Maga. And if I cast Maga everyone else is dead or I have infinite mana and have Drana out too. I also want to remove Loxodon Warhammer. The problem is that I can not think of a decent replacement for it.
Chill to the Bone- At first I was impressed with this card. Then, after a while, it just sat in my hand. I understand that targeted removal is still good. I just find that I would defiantly play a removal spell that was a 2-3 mana cost instant that destroyed target creature. No restrictions. Such a card doesn't exist.
I really like all the cards you are adding. The only cut I like is Consume Spirit because unlike Exsanguinate it can kill creatures as well. Maybe cut something else from the higher end of the curve like Avatar of Woe or Plague Wind? If you're really attached to those then Warhammer could probably go.

I actually know that consume spirit can target a creature. It just never comes up where it would do anything that waiting a turn to kill them wouldn't do better. I do see what you are saying. And I may take out the hammer for it. You are right. I feel as though I have grown too attached to Loxodon Warhammer. I will test out not playing with it today. I will keep this thread posted as best I can.

I'm not a big fan of Loxodon Warhammer because I personally feel it offers too little for ANY deck. There are much better equipment out there. As for Consume Spirit, I never really liked it because of how expensive it was, even to kill a creature. It's still a fine card, and much better than warhammer imo, but the introduction of Exsanguinate pretty much stumped my need for any other drain spell in the deck. I used to run Soul Burn, Profane Command, Consume Spirit, AND Drain Life, but I realized that they just weren't as good as most people thought they were. Exsanguinate is a godsend because now you only need one instead of four lol.

I still find consistency to be key. This is why I won't drop profane command(very versatile. I actually used it in a non lethal way.). Yes the best thing to draw would be exsanguinate.
I actually took consume spirit out for the foil all is dust I traded for today. With this deck being creature light it is a welcome addition. Also it just seems like consume spirit is a win more card. (I always had one. I am just stubborn and don't want to put more non-foil cards in my deck lol.) But to go back to your quote. I completely agree with you now. It is just jank when we have exsanguinate. Honestly Foil Exsanguinate was my chase card of the set.
I know graveyard hate is really good. The only other thing I have is Leyline. But this card is just meh. I am never loving it in my deck. I only keep it there for the teneb deck I face. I want to try withered wretch or Relic of Progenitus.

Night Dealings seems too slow and clunky but I like Ill-Gotten Gains a lot. Infernal Darkness should definitely replace Contamination, it doesn't require another card to work properly and doesn't mess up Cabal Coffers.
Yes well you basically read my mind. Yesterday I did just that. Here are my changes
- Contamination

- Gilded Lotus
- Shizo, Death's Storehouse
+ Thawing Glaciers

You are very right. It was never usefull except in extreame situations that like never came up. I am much more happy with the build as of now. Though I am considering removing the strip mine and wasteland.

- Lightning Greaves
- Consume Spirit
- Chilled to the Bone
+ Snow-Covered Swamp
+ Insidious Dreams
+ Exsanguinate
+ Diabolic Tutor
Reasons:
Boseiju, Who Shelters All- Just never was a wanted land.
Consume Spirit- Replaced for Exsanguinate.
I would still love some of your advice.

Other cards I am considering to be shipped:
Nezumi Graverobber
I know graveyard hate is really good. The only other thing I have is Leyline. But this card is just meh. I am never loving it in my deck. I only keep it there for the teneb deck I face. I want to try withered wretch or Relic of Progenitus.
What are your guys thoughts?
