My issue is I need more hate against blue/control players in general. Maybe I should just run Choke and be super sweaty
I don't think you wanna be the guy that everyone says, "Hey that's the guy that runs choke, lets kill him first" lol
Honestly what about Skithiryx, the Blight Dragon? I think having an infect creature in there that can be regenerated can be of use, plus it can put some people on an extremely short clock. Just an idea.
What exactly are you running into trouble with? Is it the counter magic? The board wipes? The general stall tactics? I looked at your list and you can honestly tell its definitely geared towards control metas, and it shocks me that you are having trouble with control decks. I would LOVE for my deck to look as good as yours lol Cards that have helped me in the past with control decks but not sure if they are worth a spot:
Most of these I've used at one time except for a few randoms (city of Sol, eyes, Fate Unraveler) but most of these cards are specific to control aspects. Maybe one of these will spark something to include or think about including.
*Random but is Lotleth Troll worth a look at? Say if I want to pick up the speed of my deck and have another way to throw stuff into the yard? Regenerate + trample is nice...
Haven't gotten to test out the new additions yet but hopefully tomorrow I'll be able to really break the deck down and look at what needs to change and find its synergy again.
Cards im considering a leaving spot for something better: Siege Rhino - Was good when I ran a Tempo build, especially doing a t2 mulch, t3 good creature, t4 siege rhino. But it kinda stands out as just wanting to be something better. Mulch - Everytime I want lands with this, I literally get 0-1. That's not going to cut it. I'm also tired of milling enchantments or good removal spells. So this will get taken up by a land fetcher maybe a Sakura-Tribe Elder. Not sure yet. Victimize- Ive done some looking and honestly I don't run enough creatures to make this a bomb card like I used to. Needs to be a solid creature to add in, no doubt. I've got plenty of reanimator shenanigans.
I understand you touched on this a bit but why exactly no tooth and nail? Or cards like green suns? Chord of calling? Are they just not needed for your deck? or you don't want to be an a-hole.
The new mana base that you've posted looks much better but I don't see that mana base in the main list. Why is that? I agree with running less utility lands as I feel you only need a couple of them as long as those few lands do what they are suppose to do. Why no strip mine? Oh and the post above for the new mana base states that you have 36 lands but I only count 34. Is that intentional? Same problem in your main list. It states that you have 36 but I only count 33 lands. Oh and just a quick suggestion, especially with constant mists in the deck, is there any reason not to play Flagstones of Trokair over a regular plains?
Same problem with creatures. It states there are 28 but I only count 25 in your main list. I also don't count 100 cards in your list. I count only 97. So I think your main list needs some updating and some general tooltip fixing. What creatures are you missing? As it stands it doesn't look like a legal commander deck.
Are there things that you don't run because you don't want to be mean? Certain abusable cards like tooth and nail? What would they be and what would you take out for them?

Thank you so much for the kind words and the list! I'm going to try a control/hating list today and my LGS, so I'll post the list and talk about it sometime later in the week.
I think Skittles is a little bit of an odd ball, just because it fits so well in The Mimeoplasm but not anywhere else. Because, you get one hit in, then he gets exiled, then an opponent just has some random poison counters that you can't take advantage of, and that is considered a lost of tempo. I think you could maybe make it work in some weird Dragon tribal with Dromoka the Eternal. If you could have Dromoka, then drop Skittles and swing and somehow bolster Skittles, that maybe would be worth it. But again, thats weird. Still cool.
Lotleth Troll is another odd ball, because it isn't a efficent discard engine and an odd beatstick in a deck that doesn't need one. I suppose it could be a self sufficient engine in some sense. I would run it with the intention of being a beatstick, not a discard engine because cards like Wild Mongrel or Sadistic Hypnotist are better discard engines.
Siege Rhino is another odd card (what is up with you and non normal cards? I like it) because it is designed as a tempo card similar to Thragtusk and Thragtusk is horrible in this format without blink support, but even then there are better things to blink. I'm not sure what to replace a tempo card like that... maybe Disciple of Bolas? Victimize can be a Reanimate or Phyrexian Delver if you need the reanimation, but you can replace it with a card draw card like Read the Bones (I've been testing this lately and it's pretty awesome. As for Mulch, maybe Satyr Wayfinder? Or Deadbridge Chant?
I understand you touched on this a bit but why exactly no tooth and nail? Or cards like green suns? Chord of calling? Are they just not needed for your deck? or you don't want to be an a-hole.

Thanks!
Thank you! Welcome to the primer!
Tooth and Nail seems like a wincon to me. I don't necessarily have beef with it, I run it in the combo version of Teneb, just because if it resolves, I win due to grabbing my combo engine. Here, you can't really tutor for two things for game winning value, so it isn't worth it to me. It just isn't as good in this list, despite being a super powerful card. I just feel that TnT needs to be a win con, rather than just a strong tutor.
Chord of Calling is a good card that I haven't tested yet. I suppose it would be a very awesome card, just mana intensive in a deck that taps out every turn in the early game. I can try testing it though, see what I come up with!
Hmmm, I think the forum didn't save some of my updates. I will double check it and update soon! Also, the core build isn't the full deck, the "My Own List" section is the actual deck. I am going to double check now, so thank you!
Flagstones... there is no wrong reason to run this card, I just don't see any reason in it. I think if I wanted to abuse Constant Mists I would run Crucible of Worlds which I have been considering. Constant Mists isn't designed to be abused in this deck, it serves as a Time Walk in some sense, giving you extra turns to stay alive and win.
Mean cards... hmmm, I guess the short answer is yes. I don't run mean cards mainly because they're mean but also they aren't really allowed in my LGS league. You can earn degenerate points for comboing out or going infinite that can prevent you form earning prizes for the month. So my main deck doesn't have any "mean cards". If you look at the combo list, however, that list is very mean and designed to win right away.
Thank you for your enthusiasm! Come back with more questions or help if you need it. I will work on updating my list. Cheers!
I was talking about the "My own list" section. I look forward to the updates and fixes! Why no Vindicate? Budget purposes? Thank you for the timely reply.
There is a lot of stuff here no doubt, many reasons for most of this stuff. I'm not adding these cards to the list until I go home for sure and make sure all of these changes are correct. I've been adding and subtracting so much from this list recently that I need to make sure that all of this is correct lol
But basically, my deck has been acting like a combo deck without proper combo pieces, or a tempo deck without good early creatures lol
So I'm basically just trying to go for a midrange build. With all these adjustmend I'm going to be doing a lot of testing soon with my brother and friends so I'll be posting some good match results, that way I can start tracking what happens during games, both good and bad.
A few days ago I played a Riku deck and it just overwhelmed me, period (before most of these changes though).
I played a token based Dega commander yesterday, and It was a battle until I living death, then tutor for Resolute Archangel, He scooped after that lol I haven't seen a lot of the new cards coming up but im hoping for some good results
I'll be posting later Rhakee to respond to your comments and such. Welcome to the thread Glokkiss, coming in hard and swinging I see lol
*random but I'm starting to dislike the razorverge thicket in this deck. I see them it often late game... and... I don't like it lol so that will go bye bye. Already have a foil Mana confluence to put in it's place.
I've come up with a list. It doesn't have any spot removal as I prefer to use planeswalkers and creatures for removal. My list runs the souls sisters and blood artist so it's heavy on creatures. I play creatures that are good to have in play when a board wipe happens, creatures who are excellent post board wipe, and good-stuff creatures. Here is my list:

I'll edit it whenever I get done grading papers, so probably tomorrow night. And with Vindicate... Utter End is just better. Yes Vindicate is one mana less, but for one extra mana, you get Exile instead of Destroy and Instant speed instead of sorcery. Utter End is just much better for me over all. I do run Vindicate in the Combo version because I need all the removal I can to control the board to combo out.

We actually were just having a talk about Azusa, Lost but Seeking and Exploration type effect the other night. What we finally decided on was, unless you're running a deck with a lot of draw, these cards are really dead. Like, maybe they can get you two, three, maybe four lands our in the first couple of turns, but it totally blows out your hand and without ways of refilling it, they become absolutely dead cards that just blow in the late game. I am not sure if Azusa should be in here, just because I would rather have a creature that brings in lands instead of maybe giving me more reach for playing my lands.
I totally feel you about the checking the deck ratios. I apparently need to do the same thing
Living Death has been super dead lately for me. I actually casted it last night with empty graveyards just to wipe the field. It was a little awkward, cause someone got back a random Birds of Paradise and that was it. It was a total dead card. I may need to re-evaluate it or the support for it.
Razorvine Thicket is totally a bad card. I see fast lands and I just shake my head, because you never get them when you want them. Confluence would definitely be an upgrade. You know what else I have been considering? City of Brass. I feel like maybe that is too much self pinging, but just imagine how much faster your fixing would be. Some thoughts to replace the awkward dual lands.
One last thing: I think you're getting to the point where Birthing Pod is good. 25 is just shy of enough creatures, but you curve into it awesomely, so maybe consider that as a potential engine. Pod also makes Living Death and your reanimation a lot better as well.
Hey! Awesome deck! I have to say, your sword package is crazy but it totally works. You could run Sword of Body and Mind because you could reanimate creatures form your opponent's yard and mess up top deck manipulation and get some dudes.
Since you have so many creatures, I would run Birthing Pod and Living End, both cards can really take advantage of the number of creatures you run. I would look at more when I have time, but thats what I see looking over it briefly. Did you have any specific questions or concerns with your build?
I've never p? layed EDH before. Are there any cards you think I should cut? Am I okay mana wise? Is 39 Lands enough?
Ahh! I can work with that Welcome to the format! Teneb is a great commander to start out with and I'd be more than happy to help you. I'll start with the mana, I think 39 is just fine. If you need to cut room for more cards, you can take out 2-3 lands. 37 or 36 is a good number with this kind of deck. Your mana base is pretty strong the way it is, so maybe cut 2 or 3 basic lands.
As for what to cards to cut, you have a couple creatures that are all stars in most formats, but in Commander it is a little odd. For example, Tarmogofy is a Modern and Legacy monster, since it can drop turn two and be a potential 4/5 creature. Those creatures are amazing in 20 life format, but Commander can be considered a 120 life format. Dropping a turn two Tarmogofy will be big, but won't gain you any advantage. So go through your list and find those cards to cut. This are the creatures that seemed slightly odd to me:
1) Have Karmic Guide in a graveyard. Play Reveillark for either its evoke cost or sacrifice it to Viscera Seer.
2) Use Reveillark's dying trigger to bring back Karmic Guide.
3) Have Karmic Guide bring Reveillark back with her enter the battlefield (ETB) trigger.
4) Sacrifice Karmic Guide.
5) Repeat the cycle. You can do the same thing if you replace either Guide or Lark with Saffi. Just sac Saffi targeting whatever creature you'd like to bring back.
The reason why you would do this is to get your sac outlet to trigger as many times as you want. The only reason I mention it with your build is because if you have Soul Warden, you can gain as much life as you want because Guide and Reveillark keep entering the battlefield. With Blood Artist of Falkenrath Noble, you can drain an opponent for their entire life total. If you want to go a Soul Sisters type route, this can be you main win condition, as well as with cards such as Test of Endurance or Felidar Sovereign. Maybe squeeze in Serra Ascendant if you'd like, with Archangel of Thune and Rhox Faithmender. I would like to see more if you decide to make this a life gain/reanimator type deck. That would be really awesome and unique.
I do stand by the fact that Living Death and Birthing Pod should be in this build. Maybe cut some of your removal creatures, like Intrepid Hero or anything else that taps to kill a creatures for them.
I hope that is a good enough start for you! I wasn't really sure what your budget is, but I really like the Soul Sisters aspect you're running. Best of luck, and come back and post if you need more help, or just want to share your experience. Welcome aboard the Teneb Train, as Rutherjc19 likes to call it.

Alright so I pretty much agree with the fast lands. They are pretty much getting cut from all my decks lol
About the Azusa, one of the reasons that I decided to put it in was due to Life from the Loam dredge thing. There are plenty of times I could drop multiple lands in a turn, assuming that I hit that card with an ok supply of lands. However, without that card or Greater good out I really dont have a good draw engine. So maybe instead of Azusa I could add in Oracle of Mul Daya or Courser of Kruphix again. I'll do some more playtesting and get back to you on her, but I totally get what you are saying with it.
And I wouldn't add City of Brass in... lol I think you are setting yourself up for too much life loss. With your duals and all that stuff packaged in there, I really don't think you need that. I think if you're desperate for more variant colored sources I would go with Gemstone Mine. Granted it only gets you 3 turns but... it may be just what you need to get that constant t2 farseek without having a forest lol

If you can get the Life from the Loam or a Crucible of Worlds engine going, then they become better, but those are just cards that are okay in these decks, good with engines, and great in any GUx deck. Oracle and Courser are both serious cards to consider if you need to extend your land drop reach.
But the art is so pretty But yeah probably not. I don't think I am "desperate" because my land base is super solid. I just went a little nutty over the art (modern masters and 8th edition).

Ya the art is pretty I totally get it lol I've got a huge hinkering for magic right now I wish I wasn't working right now lol
I run life from the loam mainly because of the dredge factor. The land back to my hand is a bonus. Most of the time at the end of the turn if I have to discard lands anyways lol
The more and more I think about it the more I wanna run birthing pod, SO i will be adding it when I get home lol BOOM

I run Life from the Loam as well. Sometimes it is really awesome, but sometimes it is a dead draw.
Everyone, just wanted to let you know that the list has been updated with he most recent list.
List is all updated. Dauntless Escort is pretty awesome not gonna lie. Liking my new list. It's getting back the original flow of the deck and I'm really liking it.
I think you should try running Corpse Dance. This card is an absolute engine. It is better with a sac outlet in play, but it can still give you a lot of value.
So while I was playing last night, someone pointed out that I can't manipulate or stack my graveyard. I haven't heard this in the whole ten years I played magic, so I suppose you learn something new everyday. Because of this, Corpse Dance has become very, very, VERY bad. It no longer has the late game reach and effectiveness it had before. So because of that, I'm taking out dance for Unburial Rites.

Guess I wont be adding that into my deck then lol I honestly didn't know that either, I goggled it and Yup sure enough there it was lol I'll have to remember that just in case I see cards like this in the future.
How has the testing been going Rhakee? I played a 3 player pod with Teneb vs Dega Tokens vs Omnath. I won by sheer card advantage produced from Disciple of bolas twice, Greater Good and the finisher of course... Living Death lol haven't been able to play many more games unfortunately.
I faced some heavy control decks today amd im really lackin the card draw without creatures. Nylea I took out because i needed a spot for the aven, and trample doesnt do too much for me really, but we will see
Hey I been referred to this thread by Rutherjc19, if you have the time can you check out my deck and let me know how I can modify it to be more competitive?
Hey I have a quick question, I have most of the cards you're running except for most of the multi-colored lands and the following rares worth more than $3. I was curious as far as budget concerns go what cards you would say are more easily replaceable than others, and by what? I feel like Chromatic, Mirari's Wake and Greater Good might be near the top of the list as far as cards I really should run, along with at least a few of the multi-lands I'm missing of course. Thoughts?
Hello everyone! I'm sorry I've been MIA. Finals have been super brutal this week, so I'm trying to keep it together. In the home stretch though, going to run Teneb and decompress a little bit. Its so great to see everyone collaborating on this thread! Keep it up!

This makes Bone Dancer a little better, since opponents can't manipulate their graveyards in response. He could be a possible Teneb 2.0 in some sense.
So far, testing has been amazing. Being a grindy deck that can out grind other control decks is really awesome. Pure control builds are still a problem, but we're managing. I'm going to do more testing tonight. Right now the main concern is getting Living Death set up as a win condition. With Survival of the Fittest out, you can fill your yard with goodies to reanimate. I use to go all out and just fill my yard, but I found out that that isn't only fragile, it is also win more. there is only so much advantage you can have before effects get redundant. But after seeing a Living End deck in modern, I realized you just need a couple key creatures, not a whole army. So here is what I try to fill up on when I try to combo off:
Just these three guys can create a lot of advantage to make we min the game. Avenger provides the army, Norn provides the pump, and Escort can protect from board wipe and Teeg can stop wipes. Cyclonic Rift is still a huge problem. Toxic Deluge is the only other spell that can get under this creature lock, but hardly anyone runs this spell and they just go back into the yard. I think the way to battle Rift is to sac your entire board, then reanimate them again. So far, this has been working for me. I’ll report and write more on this later.
Hey I been referred to this thread by Rutherjc19, if you have the time can you check out my deck and let me know how I can modify it to be more competitive?
Budget is not an issue with this deck as I been trying to find a way to make it more stronger. Thanks in advance!
Hey! Welcome to the Teneb Train! Shout out to Rutherjc19, he’s growing this thread and I am very grateful for that!
I think that your list is very tight as it is. I love the balance and the raw control element with the combo nature. I think the only thing is can suggest is your protection for your combo. Grand Abolisher is a must to prevent counters or instant speed Rifts from disrupting your combo. City of Solitude is another card, but prevents you to cast instants or combo out in response to something. Iona seems a little out of place. I mean, it is a great reanimation target that can lock out a color. But I mean, best case scenario, you’re locking down a mono colored deck that probably wasn’t a threat in the first place (unless it was blue) or you’re locking down one color of a deck that its other colors can deal with. It seems very win-more. That’s what I can see just from glossing over it. But that is a very awesome list

Hey! Welcome back! Haven’t seen you ‘round here in some time! I have been needing to make a budget list and I’m so sorry I haven’t gotten around to it. It is just hard to go from a tuned commander deck to a 75% build. It would have been a lot easier if I was just starting, but oh well. I should be drafting a list sometime soon, but I’ll help you out with these ones:
Dromoka->City of Solitude: Does the same thing, just can’t attack. Keep in mind, this card keeps you honest as well, so there isn’t any work around.
Elesh Norn->Massacre Wurm: For one less mana, you get the wrath effect that can be a possible win condition against token decks. It can be abused with graveyard reanimation and such. It isn’t under three bucks, but it isn’t 30. Honestly, you may need to bite the bullet for this one.
Volrath’s Stronghold->Any land: This land, while being an engine, isn’t required. You can honestly have any land in this land slot. Maybe Vault of the Archangel would be good to invest in, but this is up to you.
Lantern-> Any ramp spell: This one is tricky, because this is a budget downgrade from Prismatic Omen. I think that you can’t really find a color fixing spell like this, besides perhaps Joiner Adept. If you’re looking for the color fixing mode, Adept is the choice. If you’re looking for the ramp, then any ramp creature (Farhaven Elf for example) will work.
Eldarami’s Call->Chord of Calling or Birthing Pod: Both are a little over 3 bucks, but these are both ten times better creature tutors than anything you can find on the market. If you really need to crunch, Fierce Empath is the next best thing.
Greater Good->Momentous Fall: Not as great, but it is a draw spell that can net you quite a bit of advantage.
Yawgmoth’s Will->Praetor’s Council: Probably the next best thing, this card on its own is an absolute monster.
Enlightened, Vampiric Tutor->Any tutor effect: When you can’t grab these tutor effects, just use some different ones. I would try to grab the new Sidisi if you can. Diabolic Tutor and Increasing Ambition are both viable tutor slots.
Toxic Deluge->Black Sun Zenith: Hands down the next best thing.
Abrupt Decay->Any removal spell: This guy is in here because this is a good way to kill combo pieces or permanents without getting blown out by counter spells. Krosan Grip is most likely the way to go.
Thoughts?
I like all of these suggestions, and I'll even add some more. I was writing a list at school and I was matching quite a few of these with his suggestions so I'm glad we are on the same page.
Elarami's call- Congregation at Dawn, fun card and sets you up for multiple turns. Abrupt Decay: Putrefy/Mortify/Hero's Downfall, all easy cards to consider (downfall is about 4 bucks though). Mirari's Wake: Caged Sun, Marshall's Anthem. Caged Sun would be an option if your creature base or deck itself is leaning to one color vs the other two, and marshal's anthem is just s great card to consider in general with the kicker ability plus the anthem effect.
Thanks for the shout out Rhakee, Just loving the general and trying to find people to convert and share good deck tech with lol
I have ben considering Avenger to add into the build as well honestly. With the Norn it just makes sense. I use her to clear tokens out of the way if massacre wurm is unavailable, but after that I dont have a way to really capitalize with her other than throwing my dorks at the person or the Grave titan tokens. So I'll probably be looking through the build and deciding on what to add in order to bring in Avenger. I like the G.T addition to help combat those nasty control decks, and I think that the strategy of using him plus those other ones seems like a increase in win % definitely. So far I haven't needed to add him yet but if I start facing more control decks I won't hesitate lol
I might be trying to add back in chord of calling if I add in avenger, but we will see. only testing will tell.
Cards im considering a leaving spot for something better:
Siege Rhino - Was good when I ran a Tempo build, especially doing a t2 mulch, t3 good creature, t4 siege rhino.
Thanks you very much DarkNightCavalier for the Sig.
Thanks!
Of course! I hope you enjoy it!
Cheers!

Great job!

Try to put in these creatures to replace them:
With Karmic Guide+Reveillark/Saffi Eriksdotter and a sacrifice outlet (Such as Viscera Seer) you can go infinte with having each one save to other and enter the battlefield. It works like this:
Cheers!

Thanks you very much DarkNightCavalier for the Sig.

Thanks you very much DarkNightCavalier for the Sig.
I run Life from the Loam as well. Sometimes it is really awesome, but sometimes it is a dead draw.

Avenger of Zedikar
Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite
Dauntless Escort or Gaddock Teeg
Just these three guys can create a lot of advantage to make we min the game. Avenger provides the army, Norn provides the pump, and Escort can protect from board wipe and Teeg can stop wipes. Cyclonic Rift is still a huge problem. Toxic Deluge is the only other spell that can get under this creature lock, but hardly anyone runs this spell and they just go back into the yard. I think the way to battle Rift is to sac your entire board, then reanimate them again. So far, this has been working for me. I’ll report and write more on this later.
That is all I got for you! Come back soon!

Are you asking if there are budget replacements for these cards? Your wording is a little confusing for me lol
Thanks you very much DarkNightCavalier for the Sig.

Thanks you very much DarkNightCavalier for the Sig.
